started this arch almost a year ago, then had to put it aside to get other things done. finally brought it back out and finished it last weekend. still need to mount it more securely, but it's in place now. It's 12 feet wide and 10 feet high, and based on the amount of tube/rod I used probably around 150-160 pounds. Will have some vining plants growing up/through it eventually.

Not my proudest work, but way better than the few strings of cracked weld that were there before. Unfortunately, even after a thorough hot water pressure washing, there was still grease/gear oil seeping out from between the plates (smells great when welded...) that occasionally would push out my 6011 root. Cap is 7024.

Edit: not sure why the media isn't showing up? I cropped the snapchat caption out and now it seems to be working, weird. Must be an anti-spam thing.

Nothing fancy, but made a new shelf for a cart I was given

And a handle for a generator we got after Helene. Not shown are the alu spindles I machined for the wheelsIMG_5148.jpegIMG_5149.jpegIMG_5153.jpegIMG_5154.jpeg
I love mods that look quasi factory or even better than factory!. How did you keep the handle from pulling all the way out when pulling the generator

thanks! The long pieces warped inwards from the heat of welding, so by happy accident there's enough drag that you'd have to try pretty hard to pull the handle out all the way. I thought about milling a slot in one of the handle tubes and using a screw through the outer tube, but in the end it wasn't neccessary.
Also, did you have to drill those holes through the long tubes? Just eyeball with a hole saw?
I just had to drill through the cross tube. Eyeball ***** punch, then an 1/8" drill through both sides of the tube, then a step drill up to 3/4". The inside side was tougher to do due to the weld, so I had to use a dremel and a carbide burr, but in the end I got the fit just right. I used a bit of spare 3/4" rod as a "go-gage" :)

The next improvement could be to use a couple of spring button pins to lock the handle in the open and closed positions.
that would be a cool idea. To be completely honest, I'm hoping to never have to use it :) I put a cup of gas in it and ran it until it quit, then it's going to live in the shed hopefully forever!

Give yourself a regular test run schedule for it, generators need to be test run so they don’t loose the magnetic charge in the windings.

Skip the ethanol. Some gas stations carry non-ethanol hi-test. All my small/less-than-daily machines run on it.
I get ethanol free for 2-strokes (or use canned). I just run my generators, and put stabil in every can, I'm not willing to do $6/gal or better for the high end ethanol free you can find around here for the amount we go through every year. :D

I guess we're lucky. There's a convenience chain called Stewart's, though I think Sunoco has it too, that carries it in the pumps for about 40 cents more than regular. I'm not buying avgas.

Closest one I have is "off-road gas" that is normally double +/- a dollar (and 30 miles away).

I have 2 cans sitting to go get some (ironically) - one to make 2 gal of 50:1, one for the really seldom ran 4 stroke stuff. Third 5 gallon can is ready for 87 octane (all 3 have marine stabil in them). Also need a can of diesel, which is also sitting on the sidewalk :D

That's too bad. It's 3 miles to the nearest Stewart's for me.
Try this website. Maybe you'll find one nearer.

That's the one I used to find the place in Poplar Grove. Interestingly, the bubble says Marathon 90, but I'm guessing that's the "off-road" or "recreational" gas.

They do show the Walmart in Belvidere now (premium 91), but that's not really any closer.

Hopefully it's cheaper. Or nearer to your commute. Good luck.

My wife and I recently purchased a pair of kayaks. We needed a way to haul them of course, and they make roof mounts for our Jeep, but lifting a pair of 12.5' long x 85# kayaks on and off the roof didn't sound like the best plan IMO.

So about 10 years ago I built a 4'x7' utility trailer and have adapted to suit several needs over the years. However since I bought a cheap '06 F-150 about two years ago, the utility trailer has seen hardly any use. I decided that adapting it yet again to haul the kayaks would be the best plan so here's what I came up with.

I fabricated a pair of rails made from 1" square tubing that attach to the trailer's top rails via (8) 5/16" stainless-steel bolts. The J-hooks were (purchased used from my wife's old boss for $20) bolted to (4) plates I welded to the square tubing. The J-hooks were in good shape structurally, but after years in the sun they had faded badly so I masked off the foam padding and gave them all a fresh coat of paint. They look almost brand new now.

The new kayaks arrived yesterday and I got them loaded up on the trailer. I didn't have time to unwrap them at work so I couldn't attach the bow/stern tie-downs like I wanted, but I felt they would be OK for my 10 mile drive home. What concerned me the most was with DST now in effect, it was almost dark when I left work, and due to the trailer being initially built and wired for towing with a car, I couldn't connect the trailer's lighting because it wouldn't reach. :(. Even though you could still see the Jeep's taillights, I took the backroads to avoid traffic and I was able to make it home without incident. I have an wiring extension on order to avoid this issue going forward.

Not sure about your state, but in Texas you need a 12"x12" flag hanging at the end of anything sticking more than 4' past the back.

Yeah, that is another issue. I'm thinking of a small LED flashing light (similar to the ones cyclist use) attached to the overhang as I think it would get more attention than a flag, especially at night.

My kayak lives up on the 10’cargo trailer most of the time. Next year I plan a Roof rack for that little car so I can be one of them people who drive around ready for their next adventure lol
I need to make some changes to the ladder rack I used this last trip for my kayak. Getting the kayak up on top of the truck was not easy. I have some ideas to make it easier.

You might think about a reflective fanny flag like the slow moving vehicle sign you use on a farm tractor.

A slow moving vehicle sign is illegal to put on a vehicle that travels regularly more than 25mph in most states.
Ah. My intention was that the vehicle he's putting it on, the kayak, will be being transported by his legally lighted trailer. No different than having one on a combine that's being trailered between distant farms behind a semi.
