I reckon I'll toss my hat in, too.

Here's this year's Christmas present for my in-laws. They've got a nice creek running through their place and this will go on the bank near their garden.

Details:

Seat portion is made from 1/4" x 1-1/4" flat bar bent edgeways ("the hard way") into an ergonomic profile then filled with 1" x 14g square tube. The top tube on the back of the seat is 2" x 1" x 14g rect. tube. The writing on the top tube says, "Rest and be thankful". I "wrote" it with the welder set a little cold so the bead profile would be taller to stand out better. It looks like a** on my crappy cell phone pics, in person it doesn't look nearly so bad at all.

The legs are also 1" x 14g sq. tube and bent to an 18" radius. They're connected to the armrests made from the same tube and have cup holders made from 4" x 11g o.d. tube and 1/4" x 1-1/4" flat bar.

The base plates are 3/16" x 3" x 3" with 3/8" holes from King Metals. (p/n 44-33)

All the bending was done with a Hossfeld #2 bender and the welding was done with a Powcon 300SM with a Cyclomatic Powerdrive 2, .035 ER70-S6 wire and C25 unimix gas.

I hustled all night for 2 nights to get it ready, but still ran out of time to paint it before Christmas so I took it to my in-laws for Christmas morning and let them check it out and "test" it, too. (It's very comfortable)

I'll drag it back to the shop for prep and paint and bring it back within a week.

No photos but my wife had me building bottle trees for christmas gifts this year. The things are a hazard before you put bottles on them especially for a guy like me with bad depth perception (lazy eye).

I can't complain, she's the one that told me to buy the welder instead of looking at the old car and wishing I had the $$ to pay someone to do the welding for me.

ZT, as always, awesome work. Best of all, you're more than willing to help others and give advice. I'd say you are truly are an asset to this site.

Thanks Eric.

I have nothing to hide and there is definitely no "magic" to what I do...anyone can learn to do it if they are willing and I have no problem sharing how I do things.

I wish I had the time and money to fly out and have you show me a few things ZTFab! LOL ! I always admired your work on WW.I am a fairly new welder/fabricator,I mostly did auto restoration years ago and ended up changing careers, getting back into it now.You are very inspiring. The wife/working long hours and two kids keep me from going into the garage.Nice work as always !

I have afriend who welds like ZTfab, (better welding than my own) looking at his work has always inspired me to improve my own. He is also someone I look to for advice when I need it. Look to these types of people for inspiration/advice, they may be willing to help, especially if you're willing to share your expertise in other areas.

I **** in comparison to every one here.

I've had my welder for years but never use it anymore.

First time I've busted it out in 4 years.
A little angle, round tube and plate.

Sorry but this wasn't taken to document my welding. Already painted with hammertone rustoleum.

Here's a couple shots of some body mounts I built for my CJ5 project. There are three that are as-welded in the pics, and one is sanded down to show what they will look like when complete and ready for primer. Running a Lincoln PowerMig 200 on these. You can click these thumbnails to make the images larger, that's the only way I can figure out how to put pictures up.

Here's my latest Jeep project, 1976 CJ5. I have the frame almost done. Right now I'm working on body mounts for the tub and front grille support. Motor mounts will be next. I've had this Jeep for about 8 years or so and it's been apart more than it's been together. I am doing all of the fabrication work myself, this is the third go around with this thing, hopefully someday I'll be satisfied with it and just enjoy it for a while!! JEEP = Just Empty Every Pocket!!!!

Up late and bored so here's a couple more. Built a couple rod holders for a couple buddy's boats this summer. The Fiberglass rig is a Trophy 26 footer. The Aluminum rig is a custom built Silver Streak, made in Canada, also a 26' Swiftsure Cuddy Hardtop. I built and modified some rod holders for these guys before halibut season.

Nice job on the tub!

Shoot, if you had a bead roller that'd look better than factory.

I've got a '76 '5 scattered about my basement and yard, too.

As soon as I get some gates and fence up at my shop it'll get packed over there and start getting thrown back together.

I still cant make up my mind if I'm going to leave it short or stretch it a little. I'm really thinking about making a fake '6 out of it since it needs tub work anyway.

It's already got a nice mild built 304 t176 d300 set up with a 44 rear with an ARB. The front is 30 that got broke when it got rammed by a dodge that didn't.

Here are some of my creations.
A 3 point hitch trailer mover.
A 3 point dethatcher, this was the first test run, it is now painted red like the trailer mover.
And a parking stand for an IHC rear blade for a co-worker of mine.

What did you use for the tines on your thatcher? I have been considering building one of these for the spring.

@ZT: Thanks for the tips!

Yes a bead roller would have been pretty handy! The Jeep I'm working on now is a 76 like yours. I also thought about converting it to a CJ6 wheelbase and modifying the tub but I decided to leave it a 5. I did move the axles farther apart a few inches on each so I will have to do a little bit of modification to the body, but that won't be too bad. I had a 304 in it originally, and liked it alot, but now I have a Ford 351W, T-18 trans, Dana 20 transfer, International Scout Dana 44 rear w/ disc conversion and "Lincoln Locker" Scout width front that is a cut down early Chevy 3/4 ton housing with Ford/Chevy hybrid outers, probably going to throw an ARB up front when money permits. My 351W motor is for sale though too, I am switching to a 302 and building it into a 347 Stroker motor. They are lighter and a bit dimensionally smaller than the 351 and it will fit into my frame just a little nicer. Plus parts are easier to come by and cheaper. I'll post a few more pics and I make progress. I'm also going to make a build thread on another forum down the road, so I'll put up a link later when I get around to doing that.

Really inspiring for me. If I could just decide on a welder.

What are you looking to do. If its just a home shop and your not taking your welder anywhere then I would say go with a Millermatic 180 for a great MIG welder. I recently purchased one and love it.

I was looking at a 211 for the dual voltage so I can upgrade easily later since I have only 110V now at the house and I can upgrade to a spool gun for Alum. welding too.
I used to weld in high school with a buzz box lincoln. Had a Lincoln 135? 5-6 yrs. ago but I didn't have gas and the stuff like a regulator to make it work. I have mig welded on friend's machines but I'm not that great. I have a picture here of a weld of mine on a trailer ramp I helped a friend build,

2qupzpi.jpg

I have a lot of work to do on my welding skill. I wasn't good at it in high school I actually didn't like it much then I was more interested in girls than building a horse trailer for the FFA or whatever :dunno::pimpflash

Now welding seems like it's "cool" and everyone wants to learn including me. :D

Just got back from the welding supply place. $1007 for a Miller 211 seems a little high. Only deal is a free fill on the first bottle if I buy a machine and bottle. I'm going to check the other places.

thats in the right area, cyber weld is asking 1035. http://store.cyberweld.com/mi211migwewi.html with the free fill thats not too bad

I agree after looking for the last couple hours online. Seems like a great price.

Here's what he quoted me in more detail,

Miller 211 - $1017 (I was off on the original price I stated)
Miller helmet MLR 231404 - $142.03
80 hp cylinder w/blendtube- $201.95
.23 wire- $22.23
.35 wire- $19.08

Total $1402.35 w/tax $1511.03 :shocking:

Any suggestions?

Here is a cart I made for my mig, a cart for my stick in the back ground, and a small bench top metal brake.

That was what I got out the door with my Miller 211, actually you got an extra spool of wire on me an my helmet wasn't a miller. That sounds like a good kit at a good price.

I just joined the forum. Here is a simple 6' bench I built for my shop out of 2x2'' square tube and 3/4" MDF.

The metal is brushed with 80 grit sanding disk and then clear coated. I've since decided to add drawers under the deck and am in the process of building the drawer boxes. I'm a total newbie at the woodwork so I'm learning how to dovetail the drawer boxes.

With tax thats actually a damn good price. I just picked up a Millermatic 180 AS for $840 w/tax, Miller Helmet for $140, 80cuft Tank for $220 and a spool of .30 for $15. So thats $1200 or so. With the price diff between 180 and 211 its a good deal.

The machine itself has no room to move but I went to a second place yesterday and they knocked off like 9 bucks off the machine, $30 off the 80 tank and a little off the helmet. I was going to hit another place today and see what happens. $30 on the tank is a lot of money.

Very nice. Every time you guys inspire me to try something like that, I check the prices of steel and get Fred Sanford style chest pains.

no projects yet but i finally broke down and got a welder last week. it's just a cheap HF 90a flux core (I know, I know..but thats what happens when you're broke lol) anyway, I got about 30 min of practice in with it the first day..never touched a welder before that. It went ok but I was moving way too fast. This was the result of my 2nd attempt, much better that time but lots to learn. I plan on saving up and getting something like a hobart 180 or similar but for now this will have to do...now i'm planning my smoker project :)

Well, I haven't posted in a while but I beefed up my Jeep axles last week and happened to snap a few pictures.

Rossette welds (plug welds). 1/2" holes drilled in the outer tube and welded the inner sleeve.
