Thanks! We are pretty excited with it as well.

I’m acting as the GC at my house and stepping in and self performing where I can. My day job is that of a project manager on new residential construction so I have plenty of contacts from the past 20 years to help me. Helps to also pay cash.

I hired my framer to jerk the windows and vinyl siding, then overlaid the Dow foam board with 1/2” OSB and tyvek (1987 house build without sheathing...), hired my window guy to replace all the windows, then hired my framers cornice guy to install 5/4 trim to get the house ready for Hardy siding. Framer also rebuilt my deck.

I needed to weld up an exhaust on a truck I'm selling.


My welder made the move to the house, but my extension cord, c25 tank and helmet are MIA.

Fluxcore, some 10/3 romex and doubled up sunglasses did the trick.

Looks awesome. Ignore any haters. In the country we build what we want. There are dozens of custom mailbox posts around me and nobody seems to ***** about them. Theyre built from cranks like yours, plows, steel pipe, augers, wheels, wagons, and more.

Growing up we had a problem with people running over the mail box so a new one was mounted on a pressure treated 6x6 that had 2x8’s bolted to it about 6” below grade. One night someone hit the mailbox and the 2x8’s rotated up and punctured there transmission pan. The police stoped by in the morning to thank us for helping solve this issue and the town rebuilt it even stronger.

My mailbox is mounted on top of one of the pipe guard posts that protect my yard light. The base is about 1/2 yard of concrete. The mail carrier watched us build it and was very happy with it.

Thanks folks, I wasn't expecting any haters really. Just did not want anyone to think that it was so stout that it would hurt someone should they run into it. I have often thought about making the box so heavy duty and anchored that it would "show those vandals what for", but I had to keep in mind the innocent accidental wreck that could happen and I did not want my mailbox to be the cause of making it worse. I currently live at the end of the road and it could lend itself to someone plowing down the mailbox should they not realize the road ends. It won't be my mailbox that gets'em...it'll be the trees and the creek!

I acquired a o2 bottle holder. It sat in my garage for almost a yr until I figured out what I wanted to do with it. I got tired of all my steel and wood laying on the ground so I decided to build a cart to store it. I put some casters on it so I could move it around or out of the way. I had some mesh that I cut to fit on the bottom of the cart to hold everything in place. My 180 mig did the trick.

2'x2'x3/4" top. 5"d x 3/8" wall pipe. Tool
hangers and 1/2" plate intermediate shelf.

Overall shape I use a plasma cutter and oxy-acetylene torch.

shortykote. If you are referring to the Kalamazoo it goes into an air box with filter.

That is so cool, and clever! I’ve seen those old Cockshutt tractors at the local “steamup” for old steam tractors. They have a parade around the fairgrounds....lots of hissing, smoke, steam, and steam whistles! Fun stuff.

I grew up seeing Cockshutt tractors also but our farm was exclusively Ford in those days.

I never weld anything without a long sleeve shirt buttoned all the way up, welding gloves, a leather apron, my helmet, and some substantial shoes. I find that the time and effort it takes to dress out makes me plan a bit better before I start and if it’s not worth dressing out, it’s not worth welding that day. Plus I really didn’t like dropping some hot slag on my poorly protected foot.

In any event, mostly I just weld “artwork”

Building some custom fuel tanks for my 96 Ford. The 460 is a great engine, but it is fond of fuel. Looking to increase my range with the truck camper.

These will mount under the bed and alongside for transfer access. I should get about 35 gallons per side.

Bent the 1/8" aluminum on a brake and need to finish the sides.

Last fall my broom handle broke. Wait, that's not accurate - the Chinese pot-metal threaded doohicky broke, rendering my broom much less useful than before. So, I made a replacement using bits from around the workshop, because why buy it when you can make it? 11ga plate and 3/4 SCH 40 pipe.

I got the main bracket done today and started to bend some repurposed flatbar straps to triangulate the broom head like a heavy-duty industrial broom. Was running 120 amps and pedal to the metal with 1/16" filler rod. Had to go down to a #6 stubby cup with over 1/4" stick-out to get into the deep valley. I can glue metal together all day long, but I am not a fitter/fabricator by any means, I'm surprised how flat it came out.

Fun fact: since my TIG machine is in my basement I don't have a dedicated weld table and I noticed that my "mobile" cheapo vice was missing a jaw screw and since the only screw I had that matched the thread was way too long I decided to make it my ground point - worked great!

I think it got enough penetration for a push broom Didn't bother to clean the mill scale off the back side and it bubbled-up. One tiny bit of burn through so I think I had the heat dialed in nicely.

Next was time to drill a cross-hole and I had a 5/16-18 carriage bolt and wing-nut to secure the handle. My "drill-press" is a 1950's Shop Smith 10ER set-up in vertical mode. Really need to find or make a speed reducer. Filing that hole to square was an exercise in patience since the pipe only allowed for about 3/4" stroke on the file.

There you have it! The longest post ever about a tiny little weld project that isn't even done yet

VR6ix, that may be the most beautiful, over engineered broom attachment ever—I love it! You’ll want to keep and re-use it when you finally replace the broom head.
