I built a real jib crane for my shop, its primary use is for loading my plasma table. The crane has a 600 lb capacity and is currently using my old 220/440 lb cable hoist that I plan on upgrading. First lift was unloading 358 lbs from my truck bed.

Just finished building the https://housemade.us/ 2x72 Belt grinder, combined a few parts and did some skew tracking. Fun project and now I want to build a Jer Schmidt version. I think I just like building stuff lol. Working on a stand next and just picked up a Jet 7x12 bandsaw to make these projects easier.

Did you buy your wheels as a package deal? I like the drive wheel, looks cool haha.
Where did you find them?
I snatched some on Amazon and want to build another myself.

After seeing the mod BukitCase did to his Jet horizontal band saw I had to do the same to mine. This is another “repurpose existing material” project. Everything except the rear wheels I had on hand. The swivel casters are from a HF 44” tool box, the angle iron was salvaged from a 20 year old trailer mod the rest scraps from other projects.

I am going to do something like this with mine. Is it ‘tippy’ or pretty stable? I was considering widening the base a little to get the casters out away from the saw a little more.

I did a rolling base for my first drop down That was the same width. It was fine, but you paid attention when wheeling it around.

When I bought my big saw I worried about the same thing and went larger. I’ve also found the other benefit of a larger base is mitigating running the saw into anything.

Built this one in like 05

Not tippy but I do plan on using care when moving it. The rear tires are spaced out to help stability as are the front casters. I already had the mounting plates to keep them bolt on so I shifted them out. The caster wheels are also fairly wide, at least 3”, which help. I wanted to keep the profile close to stock. I really like the extra height, very noticeable.

Looks good Dan, it's always even MORE satisfying when a project is not only an improvement but ALSO "nearly free" :giggle:

I haven't noticed any tippiness on my Jet, but it spends most of its time on a "pool table quality" slab - when I need to use it elsewhere, I just roll it into my brush bucket and strap it down - between that bucket, the 7 receivers on the loader bucket and probably close to 40 various angle adapters/poles/winch, etc, there's almost ALWAYS a way to handle stuff that'd kill me otherwise.

For example, that gun safe weighs right at 700 lbs - even with the pallet jack, I ended up winching it into the bucket.

And no, I wasn't gonna set that load on TOP of the container; the hoe (PLUS the 8' brush bucket) takes more (level) "wiggle room" than there is at the end of that container, and as you can see by the pics there's not a lot of room inside for that bucket unless you can get a straight shot... Steve

I was too lazy to assemble my cherry picker so used one of the arms on the 2 post lift. Easy Peazy. I also use my tractor bucket to move stuff but mine is smaller than yours. Nice setup.F8D1EBE2-1A4A-4388-B104-DB48D732BFDD.jpeg

It doesn’t try to roll around when you’re cutting?

Built a cart from Paul @ZTFab for my HTP 221. Don’t really have any in process pics, since I started tinkering and then just finished it up. If you’re looking for a rad welding cart, it’s worth it. Just picked it up from powdercoat the other day since I absolutely despise painting and have better stuff to do.

All these bandsaw caster upgrades are making me want to get off my **** and fix mine. Inherited my dads 7" Rong Fu and it has a caster "cart" its sitting on but the casters are tiny like 1.5" wheels that are a pain to roll. Just need to figure out how to lift it off the cart.

I made a caster base for my power hacksaw and it (understandably) moves around quite a bit when running, but it's worth it to be able to put the saw away when not being used.

51848169015_a6dfb16490_c.jpg

I went wider than the saw for concern over tipping, as others have noted, but with this size base it seems completely stable. It's probably not sitting as high as many of the bandsaws posted and is extremely heavy.

I would imagine it is quite stable. I built one for my saw that raised it to a more appropriate working height and did not increase the width beyond what it looks like he has there and it is very solid.

I have a small Wen bandsaw. Considering how small it is, it's heavy as hell, and I keep it up on a shelf. Royal PITA getting it down & putting it back up when finished. And since my benches are usually full with whatever project warrants its use, I end up using it on my garage floor, with me on my knees.

Making a small roll-around stand sure looks like a great idea...I just don't know if I use my saw enough to justify dedicating the floorspace to a cart. I have to give this some thought, but you've all surely got me thinking!!

The bigger the diameter the easier it will roll. Still hard to steer due to the weight but at least it steers.

Little project for this evening:

I needed a lifting point on the skid steer bucket so I can pull some old fence braces out of the ground. I also had another idea in mind, so I got two birds stoned at once.

The bucket with no lifting point. It looks warped in the pic, but it’s just distortion from my iPhone camera.

The free-hand, oxy-acetylene cut, 1” thick lifting eye.

After a little magic. I’m pretty rusty since I haven’t really welded anything for several years now. It’s like riding a bike: you never forget, but if you don’t practice pretty often it’s not gonna look as good. At any rate, it felt really good to fire up the ol’ Lincoln and string the leads out. I’m hoping to do a few more welding projects in the near future, so hopefully I can get my hand back.

For this lifting eye, I did a double bevel with about a 1/16” landing and little to no gap. Root and hot pass with 1/8” 6010, fill and cap with 3/32” 7018 in the shown position

Main objective was a lifting point, and I think it will work exceptionally well for that.

77998236-6F4C-4194-B144-4A2067387B89.jpeg

Secondary objective was to be able to attach a slightly modified 3 point hay spear to pick up round bales. I can confirm it works extremely well for this.

That’s a 4x5 wheat HAY (not straw) bale that just had 2.25” of rain on it 4 days ago. I was kinda worried I would need some sort of attachment point at the bottom of the spear, but I picked the bale up and put it down several times and never had any issues so I may have gotten lucky. Final pic with a fresh coat of rattle-can Krylon black:

Got an 18"x48" stainless table that was headed to the dumpster at work. Wheels had lost their rubber and were frozen with rust. I cut the legs off where the wheel studs ended and was able to heats and pound the studs out. Made some threaded tips for the legs by weldeding stainless 1/2-16 nuts to 5/8 thick washers and then welding those to the pieces of leg I cut off. Re welded the legs back together and ground everything down to finish it off. Threaded some new casters with brakes into the legs, gave the top a crazy swirl finish and had a beer on my new table.

Another in the series of fab projects using repurposed material that I have on hand In the shop. I built my shop and the stairs to a loft about 27 years ago. I never put in a hand rail for the stairs mostly because I didn’t go up there very often and I was in good enough shape it wasn’t a big deal. Well, through the years my knees are getting worse and worse and lately it’s been a major pain to go down the stairs without that hand rail. Time to fix that. Pretty simple design using tubing that was from a railing on my utility trailer that was removed several years ago. It turned out very secure and makes negotiating the stairs much easier not. I still have to add a short section at the top, that will be tomorrow’s project.7D440ED2-7044-4166-83BE-1E3958E632C4.jpeg66592D25-4277-4AE0-8DA3-54DAF08C4F04.jpeg2D6D84E4-D91C-4AAD-B44A-7FC87F88444C.jpeg

Made a toolbox in the back of the flatbed. Got tired of lifting the lid by the lip. Made a lifting handle by combining 2 large BBQ hinges and a horseshoe. The horseshoe raises 90* to a stop making it easy to lift the lid.

Handrail looks great; you might consider a return at the top and bottom so you don’t impale yourself..,a 90 degree **** weld pipe elbow works good.
I capped the top and bottom ends so at least they’re blunt. If I ever take them down to paint i could address it then but I might never mess with it. We’ll see.

Big gap? Nope. Mis-measured angle? Nope. That right there is a planned place to use that little chunk of round bar :lol_hitti
