I do not have many at all.

Left to right: channel lock, craftking (japan), cheap Kobalts, crescent. I have one more Kobalt I found after this pic.

Here are my smaller adjustables I use. I think the dinosaurs used them to work on their horseless carriages and Ford Model T's back in the day.

Left to Right:

1. Billings & Spencer mini monkey wrench with a Feb. 18, 1879 patent date. It's probably the best small adjustable I got. It's nice, strong and tight and also has markings so I can tell the size of the opening.

2. Frank Mossberg mini monkey wrench with a March 11, 1902 patent date. It's not as sturdy as the Billings, but still comes in handy every once in a while.

3. Scholler 6" adjustable. The company that made these went out of business in 1918, so it's pretty old. You can see it's taken quite a bit of abuse over the years. Personally, I've found it to be about as good as a new Chinese adjustable since the adjustable end is worn out and loose. But it still works so I still use it.

I picked this up this past weekend. I have had Walden adjustable wrenches in the past but this is the only Walden Worcester adjustable wrench I have ever found and it is a pebble tool to boot!

He is pretty proud of his 4" Keen Kutter, only has 1of those. Those are all USA made too!
He did offer to sell me all his 4"ers though...
He has an unbelievable collection. I will post a few more pics tonight of his PLVMB collection.

Wouldn't that be in the pipe wrench category? lol
I've never seen a straight hex wrench! Had to look that one up in the catalog.

Wow - I was going to take a picture of the rest of mine. I checked and I have 67 - but after seeing the picture above it looks like I have a long way to go to catch that guy.

Here's a few of mine. All USA except for one made in Spain.

The Diamalloys from my home toolbox:

48aa01f6.jpg

Note the 12" Diamalloy has a shiny loose jaw. The wrench frame is '40s or '50s vintage and was missing the jaw and nut when I got it. I bought a repair kit from Diamond around 1978 and had to do a LOT of die-grinding and filing on the jaw, and had to turn down the nut on the lathe and re-knurl it to make the parts fit the old frame. So, like the recent thread about current Crescent parts not fitting older Crescents, it happened at some point a long time ago with Diamond too.

The Protos from my work toolbox:

The Crescents:

Some others, from top: 4/6/8" Williams, 12" Craftsman, 10" Challenge (not Challenger), 8" Stanley Handyman, 6" Bet'r-Grip:

And more, from top: 3 Westcott car wrenches, 4" Irega (Spain), older 8" heavy-pattern Crescent, old 6" Diamond Calk Horseshoe, 8" Diamalloy:

Huh...only 31. There's probably another dozen or two scattered around the shop and barn and in most of the ranch trucks and tractors, plus 3 or 4 in my Plomb collection, but according to the two photos Flatland Dave posted, I hardly have any adjustable wrenches at all, and I'll be showing those photos to SWMBO to prove it.

Is that a vintage design or recent?

Nice Proto's and Plvmbs! (I only have 2 Proto's, sort of hard to find around here...)

Vintage I believe pre 71 that was the date the pat. was issued and this one is pat. pending, the pat. was applied for in 68

Anyone have an opinion on whether I should pick up a Craftsman 24" adjustable or Crescent 24" adjustable?

Nor sure if you are asking about one of the other , or if you should bother at all...

If new, no opinion between them...

If older stock, Crescent...

If its "do I need a 24", The GJ answer is YES! But while I have found use for 15 & 16" wrenches, I'm not sure I'd ever use a 24, so it would depend on price for me. cheap enough, I'll but almost any tools....

Been using the 20" PROTO DAILY for the past two weeks....a couple of times I could have used a 24"!!! But all we had was a 36" pipe wrench....and sure could have used a much bigger easy-out than the 1" diameter bad boy we had...

Work on a farm so an adjustable of this size will see use. Sometimes my current 18" Craftsman isn't big enough

I would be buying the wrench new. Should of made myself more clear, sorry about that.

I'd love to find one of the older style 30" Blue Point crescent wrenches. I should have bought one years ago when they still made them with the adjuster as a knob on the bottom, instead of the conventional barrel adjuster like they make now.

Cookies for anyone who finds one for sale at a reasonable price.
