Picked up an 8" Diamond Tool & Horseshoe "Refrigeration Special" awhile back. WTF makes it a refrigeration specific wrench ?? The only unique thing I can see is that the words are stamped into the wrench instead of being raised like the rest of them.

Also picked up this 8" Wizard at a flea market a few weeks ago and got it working again. The guy had no clue what it was, $4. A tool vendor there told me its a wall hanger I'd NEVER get that going again....

Two thumbs wayyyyy up!

Just a guess, but, the jaws might be forged at a slightly different angle to deal with soft aluminum and brass fasteners. To prevent galling of the threads when you torque down on it.
I remember using my trusted old Diamond adjustable on reefer line connectors, and they'd get distorted and leak. Thing worked just fine on every other task I threw at it. Eventually went to Bonney flare wrenches - no more problems.

Here are my new wrenches. An result of finding this website on my week vacation. I have a bunch of new Wright and Klein and Channellock tools. But here are the adjustable.

Anyone have a solution for a pouch to put these in and carry in the backseat of the truck. I haven't found any online.

How strong is your adjustable wrench.

Lmao at the slow mo machining with classical music underscore. Brilliant!
Thanks for that. :)
I've made a point of avoiding tool-review videos. All the previous ones I've seen were done by idiots who can't get to the point.

This guy can not only turn a phrase, but turns metal. The video isn't perfect--I think he gets the wrench directions backwards, and--duh--the wrench accepts less torque with a small hex than with a large hex.

Even so, very watchable and reasonably informative despite the small sample size.

The best adjustable wrench I have ever used is the Knipex wrench pliers. Expensive but it is easy to use and it is almost impossible to round a nut. The 7 inch version I have opens up to 1 3/8". Very innovative and versatile design. I did not read all 25 pages here but I suspect it has come up earlier.

Damn you guys. I was perfectly content with my 24" adjustables, until I learned of the Blue-Point 30" wrenches. Of course, I had to own one.

I don't remember exactly the cost, iirc it was 300 and some change. It was worth it to me to have the spainish coo vs the china BP and the lifetime warranty vs the channellock one.

I didn't know channel lock had no warranty... good thing I don't abuse my tools.

It's not so much that channelock doesn't have a good warranty, they do. I just can't walk into lowes or wherever and expect them to have one of these on the shelf. I'd have to deal with channelock directly, and I don't have time or the inclination to deal with that or with shipping a wrench like this. My snappy dealer can get one easily, just a phone call away and he'll have one on the truck the next visit. Plus the likely hood of my breaking one of these wrenches is pretty much nil, they're hell for stout.

As far as blue points warranty, they have the same lifetime warranty as snapon. I've never had any issues exchanging anything I've bought off a snapon truck, blue point, snap on or otherwise.

I'm not bashing the channelock, is a nice wrench, the same wrench, in fact. I just gave the reasons I bought the BP over the channelock. Plus l like the black oxide vs chrome. Not sure why you seem so defensive. Cheers.

I am very picky with adjustable wrenches. I actually don't have any...Maybe my OCD kicking in at estate sales or something, but I always find a reason to not buy. I'll carry one around then go put it back. I'm not sure the deal. Seeing some of the ones in this thread is helping me see some of the differences and sort of giving me an education on them. Thank you everyone that shared!

I have 4. A 6" marked West -6. Germany. A 10 inch with no legible markings. A 10 inch Masterench. Last but not least a 16 inch Proto LA 716s that I just broke. The Proto is the only one that I use. I use it for changing hitch balls. Broke it trying to break a rusted ball loose on the truck.

Sorry not trying to a jerk... my bad. I guess I always just thought blue point was a second tier product mostly made in china... I actually never thought about the warranty they offer. If I could do it again the blue point warranty is worth something. I think I am still pissed snapon won't replace my ratchets that the torx screw keep coming loose on and make the ratchet slip.. 1/2 dual 80s...

Blue-Point is the value line, make no mistake. It's also their umbrella brand for various tools that they sell via contract maker. I've seen some ****** Chinese blue point tools, but I've also seen some top shelf Euro and USA tools badged blue point. Just need to do your homework.

Bummer about your ratchet, snapon should take care of that for you.

^What brand + size is the top one. I assume the Westward is the 2nd one down. I picked up a 18" Gray a while back, use that in combination with a 15" Crescent quite often.

That is one neat wrench. I love the Diamond stuff. I dont know why. When i was a kid we had one in the tool drawer and i still have it to this day along with many other adjustables. Diamond will always be my favorite. I too am in MN.

Can i ask what you gave for the wrench? I have never seen one like it.

Here is a neat piece on the history of the factory here in Duluth of the factory workers reunion 20 years after they closed down

I picked up this Craftsman 10" adjustable with some other tools in a horse trade. It was made by JP Danielson for Craftsman, and was made in 1940. It has a 5/8 broached hang hole. Interesting fact, these Craftsmans were the only JP Danielson pattern adjustables made with a hexagonal gullet.

I also picked up a 2nd Snap-on/Blue Point 4" adjustable in black oxide. I already had the chromed one.

Lastly, picked up this Proto 20" Clik-Stop. I'm wondering if this was originally painted yellow at the factory, because there is paint on every surface except the worm gear, including in the jaw channel. Seems your average garage paint job wouldn't involve completely disassembling the wrench. The part number does reflect black oxide finish, however.

Here's a wartime (1945) dated PENENS 12" adjustable that I picked up from the flea market earlier this year. Works like new. I was just using it today.
