Got this at an estate sale last Friday found in an old workshop. It was advertised that the out building would be American picker search, so brought my flashlight and stumbled across this old two piece with crown logo. Tried to determine year, this website has lots of good information, understand 1958 was start of crown logo but found catalog from 1957 that has the box listed?
.........I've never seen that set in its original pouch.

As an addendum to this, your boxes were made by the same manufacturer, it was the Craftsman logo that changed. The 1957 catalog toolboxes has the oval Heritage badge centered above the drawer pull, the larger Crown logo required it to move to the right hand side of the drawer.
Look INSIDE the drawer behind the badge and there should be a date, 58 or 59 or maybe 60. That is the year of the toolbox. I have one of those top boxes with crown logo and a 58 date.

Here's a pic of the stamped date of manufacture of one of my Heritage era boxes.]
I took a look as suggested and they are 1958 couldn't find a catalog for that year maybe craftsman didn't put a new one out. Afraid to say what I paid for the pair. I like the patina on them so far just spent 1-2 hours removing contents and cleaning off the saw dust/spider webs/spiders off. Inside paint is original color instead of the red I assume?
1st pic date stamped top box
2nd top box lid open (inside color)

5th date stamp rolling box
Same year as mine! I personally like the Heritage logo better, but wouldn't balk at your box either. You seemed concerned about what you paid. I think these boxes are worth much more than their modern equivalent that would set you back $300-$400 for an inferior set. With thain mind, you almost certainly did not over-pay[Originally Posted by bluebolt View Post

am I correct to think original color grey? Doubt I'll restore it probably just hit the surface rust with steel wool and WD-40. It did have one wheel lock rusted in locked position but after a few soaks it's broken free.
^^^^Very nice!
Most use Rustolium Hammered Grey, but I'm not sure how close it will match the aged paint you have.
nice, like that heavy Duty table and miter gauge. My new to me Craftsman belt / disc sander. Picture is from CL ad. Cleaned up very nicely by blowing off the sawdust with an air gun. Paint is in great shape. Bought it from the estate of the original owner.

Torqueman hooked me up with my latest crown top acquisition,
