Not the same company that currently goes by that name. Leytonstone jig and tool company (leytool)manufactured tools and equipment for British military during ww2, then branched out to consumer and industrial after the war. At some point they went under and their factory was demolished in 1985.

Thanks. I took the empty box and got to here filling it up again with my spares. Missing 6 pieces.

I bought a Indestro wrench set around 1971 from a catalog for 6.00. Forget name of catalog. Although very cheap I was shocked at how well they held up. Still have entire set but only a few sizes I still use.

All of the sockets are branded and are also marked with model numbers that correspond exactly to the 1951 set parts list except for the 4418 9/16" 3/8-inch drive socket. It has a 12-point 9/16" service opening. It has the unmistakable Duro-Chrome knurling. It is chrome-plated. It is identical in every way to all the other sockets in the set. It just got missed in the roll-stamping pass on the line.

The only pieces not marked are the drive plug and the adaptor drive plug.

The only piece I am missing is the 6” extension, model number 4533. If anyone has one or runs into one, please let me know!

I found this today in a Thorsen set. Unfortunately, it must be the next size shorter.

Duro sold pulleys, too!

Looks like I didn't get the Duro name in the photo, but the Chicago shows.

Nice, but not $50.00 nice. :wtf:

• 2742 Super, 7/16 (deep socket)
• 6224, 3/4
• 6222, 11/16
• 6220 5/8
• 6248, 9/16
• 6216, 1/2
• 6214, 7/16

1/4” Drive Sockets

Went to the Industro Factory back in the 60s when I was a mechanic in Chicago. The lobby of the office walls were lined with cases of tools that they had made over the years. We thought maybe we could buy direct but that was a no. One of my most treasured is an industro double box that i used a long time ago to adjust mags on dc3s.

Do some of these sockets have no marking other than size?
I have a set that I just noted came in a flat tray with a simple "Duro" on the inside of the lid. The sockets are a dull galvanized color, 1/2" drive, and had a speed wrench that is also unmarked.

I will try to get a couple pictures tomorrow.

Each socket is marked with their mod # (e.g., 6012) followed by "Indestro" and then their measurement (e.g., 3/8). The deep sockets have "super" on them.

Some have limited markings depending on the era, and who they were made for. Some had no company markings as they were re-branded.

Can you post a picture of that double box?

What were you at the factory for if not to buy stuff, simply for fun?

Sorting through some 1/4dr sockets. D-I, Chromium Vanadium, Indestro Super...looks like a progression. There’s a DuroChrome out of frame.

I found this flip over ratchet at the flea market this morning. It's a little leopard-y with box rot spots. 11/16-inch female hex drive. I'm actually not sure what set this goes to. I went through all of four.cycle's catalog pages and the closest match is a 3/8-inch hex drive "Pee Wee" set ratchet, which this ain't. Might need four.cycle to solve this one.

Pretty sure I found one of those a while back.

I picked up this little Duro-Chrome set off E-bay recently from a seller that appeared to be selling off their personal 1/4" socket set collection. This is the only set that I snagged.

Very nice, CRTDI.

The "Doggone Good Tools" logo decal on that No. 4502 set is only the second I have seen here, the first being on the No. 4518 set I posted here on page 39 in post #778 (and more in post #779 just under it). Your box is even cleaner, and your decal in a little better condition.

Haha. True. It's usually the difference between Mine = Preserved (which is like a house that is called "quaint" in real estate lingo) and His = Minty, though. In this case, I was happy for Mine = Minty and His = Mintyer!

Lugz, your 4518 set is very cool...
Thanks. But thanks to Todd that seems patronizing now. I will have to get even with him in some devious way he least expects. No, seriously, I just think it's cool there are two "Doggone Good Tools" decals on the thread now.

I’m somewhat disappointed that those sets didn’t come from Duro with a spinner.:headscrat
I bought this on eBay because I have a couple of the unmarked ells but the handle has always been missing. Now I just have to figure out how to remove the handle from the ell. That’s probably why this one isn’t missing.
-Don
Edit... with a little brute force the handle came off. The last pictures are the tool as a Tee handle and other various configurations.

Here’s an early Duro 1/2” ratchet. No. 675. Not sure where it fits in relation to the early flat ratchets with the swinging head.

Found one of these in good working order. Looks alot like the other 20s ratchets I have. Closest to the bonney, has same arrow cast below the head.

I recently received what I assume is a prewar NOS Duro 3/8” drive ratchet with a removable plug. It is shown next to a wartime version with a fixed plug.
