Just picked up this guy. Does anybody have any info on it?

It's got a number of VL-43 A1 on it. Offset chisel holder?

I have these pliers...they are tight and have a very fine grip, they look like someone modified them in the past. I use them frequently for fine work as they have better control and feel than needle nose.

Pair of side cutters and a pair of linesmen, my dad had theses in his tool box as long as I can remember. I really like the style of the grips.

I just found this exact tool cleaning up my shop. Any ideas on what or how its used?
I have a thought that it might be an automotive tool of some kind; bearing race or valve guide punch.

Snap Ring Pliers, I actually have had these for years and use them frequently.

I have more in my growing mountain of tools to polish up, plus I've sold a bunch on the bay, and think I may have a few listed right now.

These might be round nose pliers.

I don't have any but looking through this thread, aside from post #34 & #50, they all look like tools that have worked very hard and maintained a good reputation (no shelf queens).

I have heard good things about Kraeuter pliers. But my contribution here is a set of wrenches I sold on eBay for around $10 I think . . . almost 2 years ago.

Steve
I know I'm re-vamping an old thread, and what follows should really be in the Vintage Tool section, but I was poking around Kraeter threads looking for something related to another posting and found this set pictured in post #10.

You probably know I've been posting a lot lately about Lectrolite Corp. wrenches and their history, especially the budget recessed handle TruFit design that LC made for all kinds of companies including Sears. These contract wrenches have no name brand on them, but most are marked with a forged-in "LC" for identification.

If you take a look at the set in the mentioned post, you'll notice that they are Lectrolite wrenches. You can see the LC mark, especially on the largest wrench. So, these are maybe not original to the pouch, but then.....

I've been reading several posts scattered here and there that SK was making the end wrenches for Kraeter on contract even before Dresser purchased Kraeter. We know from the research that all raised panel SK end wrenches were made in the Lectrolite Defiance OH plant from 1953 up until the style was discontinued (cant recall if they were discontinued under Facom or at the Ideal buyout). That being the case, these wrenches could be original to the pouch, since the TruFit design was being made in the same factory as the Kraeter-branded wrenches, if the reports of SK being the contract maker for Kraeter wrenches of the day.

This brings up two points. First is a question as to why they'd put their generic budget end wrenches in a pouch branded for what was supposed to be a high-end quality wrench?

Second, the idea that SK made the Kraeter wrenches on contract is only partially correct, depending on the time period. Up until the Wayne purchase of both SK and LC, they still operated as separate companies, having only a manufacturing partnership with regard to SK wrenches and catalog marketing. All evidence indicates that when Wayne purchased the companies in 1962, the recessed handle TruFit design was discontinued, and so no more of these were made under contract. That being the case, the wrenches pictured in the photo were made prior to Wayne, which means they were made by Letrolite, not SK. Any contract end wrenches made for Kraeter after 1962 would then be technically made by SK, since the Lectrolite name was also retired at that time, but would have still been made in the old LC Defiance plant.

Anyway, I thought I'd fill in a few blanks on these.

I recently picked these up.

1601-4, no rust and the teeth are good too. I didn't even need to wipe them off, no grime or grease either. Alloy Artifacts puts them as made around 1924-1939ish.

I hope I look and work this good at 95yrs old!

I have quite a few Krauters (28?), but I don't recognize that pattern on the jaws. (I also only have 4 slip joints...)

Kraeuter is a maker that is dear to my heart, but you don't hear much about them in the main stream. Sooooo Lets talk about Kraeuter. Please share info, pics, stories that you may have regarding anything with the Kraeuter name on it.

IIRC they made, and were associated with SK as a economy line later on

Not sure what trade these flat-wide pliers were for. No wire cutter either. This name/number stamping doesn't look symmetrical like other pics online. What year are these from? 1915?
Maybe they are for a glazier? Diamond made a similar plier for glaziers.

Whoa. Mind if I tell my wife this...I'm already getting the sideways eye about the 6 pairs of pliers I have (across all brands). Hahah. But seriously, you're totally right, I really like the way they feel in my hand. Do you find uses for all of yours? Or is it a collection?

Krauter back in the day made nice stuff, I like them. I have 36 pair in 9 catagories.
