Baby woke me up about 20 minutes ago and while Facebook scrolling I saw and jumped in this for $100.

Amber handled BE set with 1/2 breaker and speeder along with the amber handled 3/4 breaker.

I don’t see these come up but when they do they go for a lot. Going to flip these and hope to make a little for our summer family vacation to the grandparents in Chicago.

Dang, how did that last long enough to have to drop the price? Thats crazy. Well played! While that set doesnt have the correct carry box, I think you will still do well!

I finished up my long C Craftsman 5182 vise that I bought in February and posted a bit about it in March. Now that it’s the middle of April, I am done.
Under the hideous black with white specks paint job was enough original paint to do a color match. Even the jaw faces were covered in heavy black enamel. I’ll include a before pic for reference.

Thanks

The original color was a purplish dark blue. More purple than safety blue or the English blue that Record vises are painted. Some might call it indigo.

I used Benjamin Moore CC-968. “Basic Blue”

My local store mixed it in satin acrylic. I applied 2 coats of it over Rustoleum primer using a very soft wide artist paint brush.

I think being a small part many got lost through the years. They were included in some of the sets as well as sold individually. This a 1939
catalog page.

They were included in quite a few sets when ratchets were expensive and people wanted to cut expenses wherever possible. And yes, a lot got lost or people tossed them when new ratchet technology came out.

Great score, but are you sure that's a 3/4" breaker and not a 1/2" breaker next to a 3/8" just making it look big?

Wow, I'm not sure I've seen a complete set in the hip roof box. Very nice!

Did you find it complete or near complete? or was it pieced together?

I can remember when I separated my few 1/2" drive Long C sockets out as "collectible to me" near 4 decades ago, and it took several decades to complete the set of just sockets, The 3/4 eluded me for ages, and only afterward did I find a set in the flat box, with spares and the 3/8 set in the same buy, also in a tray/box.

Suggestion - replace the mats with sheet cork, this would be "period correct" for the ere. The big box stores carry it in rolls.

Can we see a photo of it cleaned up? Does that one have the long C logo on both faces, like the stubby DBE I posted above?

I think there were some variants of that ratchet in a fairly short time frame. Gearwolf may know the particulars. Its maybe from 37? 38? Here is one I know came from 36 because it has golden jubilee decal. Unfortunately did not come with 3/8 stuff.

It turned out to be a 3/8 and a 1/2. I actually was just reading the ad that said 3/4. I knew when it got here immediately LOL. However, I had sold them all for $520 before they even got here and the buyer wasn't concerned. I was still able to get my once-in-a-lifetime photo with them. HAHA

A very nice guy at the Flea Market sold me this partial Circle U set.
It was nice chatting with him...
He couldn't remember if it was his dad's or his stepdad's

Missing the 5/8 and 3/4
I checked my Doubles and found an 11/16 and 13/16...... naturally....

In the movie version of this transaction, starring Tom Cruise as @mritchie77, this is known as a "presale".

You know how they say dogs tend to look like their owners? I think @mritchie77 definitely looks like his avatar.

I found this Long C screw starting screwdriver at a moving sale today. I very rarely see Long C screwdrivers anymore. It is available for trade if a Craftsman collector needs it.

Nice find! Usually I seem to find the smaller screw starter drivers, not that larger modern size. But any long c driver from this era is a good find just due to age and propensity to be destroyed over the years.
