I knew it!!! Believe it or not I've been ridiculously sitting on the edge of my seat in anticipation of what you were picking up this weekend. My bet was on a complete Super Deluxe set. There ARE words required....YOU ****!!

Big time congrats Todd. You've even got all three socket trays! That's a keeper.

I have other words for you other than, "You ****." but you've heard them all before. lol

That set wouldn't have had a 3/8 speeder in it Todd. That was found in the larger Master Deluxe set. No 3/8 extensions or universal in it either. Odd that it was pretty sparse in the 3/8 drive department.

I'll fall on the hand grenade and be the first to make a paltry post after Todd's incredible find. I've passed on several of these pipe threaders due to missing pieces and/or lack of a decent logo. Couldn't pass up this complete set with both good logos for ten bucks.

Same script but a bit busier with the patent number and No OSP. This is the only die (are they called dies with this?) that I can make anything out on. Very grungy till I can get back home and clean it up. That's an interesting decal on your carrier.

There is actually a 1/4" amber handle speeder. There is a handsaw as well. It seems like several items received this treatment; however, they weren't depicted in the Sears catalog.

Looking forward to the video!

I've been taking test footage since the late fall. My family and I took turns being sick for literally 9 weeks straight. I'm thinking we were infected by one of the various lager style viruses floating around: MGD, Busch Light, etc. I'd say its a "dark" joke, but I thought these lagers were "light".

I've got the studio set up. We're ready...finally.

I've never seen the handsaw but I've got the amber hack saw. Hope you and yours are all on the mend.

Todd, did you find that set at an estate sale? I am curious if the seller was of a more affluent background.

I have an unreleased video I did specifically about the amber handled ratchets and their associated components in the old style of video. I could never find the toolbox that seems to be exclusive to the set.

As a buyer back in 1939-1942, you REALLY had to want the set, where the cost over similarly equipped tool sets was substantial. The price of the set continued to increase by 12-15% per YEAR for the few years the amble handled kits/sets were available. Saving up and/or waiting, in this case, was a bad idea.

If there is one thing that has shocked me about this hobby, it is what can be found. Craftsman C-Series found a C-98, a ratchet produced in extremely low volume, at a garage sale for a few bucks. Todd is definitely good at bringing unique things for us to see.

Thank you!

The condition looked outstanding.

There was a C-98 sold recently, but not at garage sale price. It seems a couple old round heads have surfaced lately.

Yes, it is. It would have been nice to have had access to particular pieces years ago. A lot of the wait had to do with acquisition not dredging up the history. There are several here on Garage Journal who have been very generous with donations, outright selling, or temporary loans.

The C-98 sold privately for $900 per the seller that divorced it from the socket set it was supposed to be associated with. Good thing the buyer didn't spend the extra money for the sockets/case, as it was incorrect.

I thought that was the case when I saw the set on eBay, but it's nice to have that confirmed.

In my daily email from estatesales.net, I saw a listing for an auction with tools. A small pic with an amber handle barely peeking out was all I needed to put the event on the calendar. So, not an estate sale but an estate auction.

I must have missed that one. The one I saw was Jan. 29, sold for half that. Bargooon!

I saved photos from the eBay listing for my photo reference library. The dates on the photos are Aug 4th, 2019. I watched this lot with great interest but it was way out of my league in terms of price.

Yep, that is the one I was talking about.

The socket set that the C-98 came with was with the red style case. They were the ones that had fancy hinges.

Amazing find Todd. I managed to piece together a complete set but finding one in the wild 100 percent complete (and apparently in pretty damned good shape) is incredible.
