How many were there?
Its hard to decipher illustrations in the older catalogs. I'll throw some images up and you can decide for yourself. For what it's worth, I'd say your wrenches are 33 or 34. The 33 illustration looks more like stamped ignition wrenches to me but I think it's just a bad drawing. 34 looks like the wrenches could have that round shank but by 35 it looks, to me, like we have the more familiar pre-war flat shank/raised panels.

I picked these up at a local antique store for $3 a piece. Because they were buried in the back of the store in a crate with a number of other rusty no-name tools, I almost blew by them.

I got the date of manufacture from Alloy Artifacts.

Not much of Craftsman guy, myself, but I couldn't pass on this old girl at the auto swap last weekend:

And like most of the people hanging about here, I have more than a few C-man pieces I have picked up. So, I started filling it!

It needs a new carry handle, and I am pretty sure the latch isn't stock, but it is the start of a 31-piece set listed in the '41 catalog:

Outlaw, nice hammers. I kinda like the orange on the handles. Think I'd leave them be.

BMW, nice find! Those prewar boxes are tough to find, especially with the tray still present.

I was 30 seconds behind bmw on that prewar box, as in 30 seconds too late 😂👍. Second place is first place loser

it is the start of a 31-piece set listed in the '41 catalog

What are the dimensions of that box? I'm wondering if they used the same box as the 37 piece set, with different partitions in the tray. The box I posted above, measures 18-1/2" x 5-3/4" x 5-3/4".

I'm also curious about the markings on the sockets you need. Do they have a particular letter inside of a circle? Are they plated, or plain steel? Which sizes are you missing?

Too many questions?

According to googling,

$13 in 1941 is worth $263.55 today

My search is finally over for this elusive table saw. Picked it up last night after seeing it advertised on offer up. This is the rare 9” table saw that was introduced in the 1940 craftsman catalog model number 101.02181. It is missing a few parts but overall good functional condition. Comes with the original 3/4 hp motor. There is the typical rust and cancer on the sheet metal at the bottom. Super excited to have it in my collection.

Four Long C body and fender hammers from an estate sale yesterday - going into my Long C stack:

The underline says "Fender tools"

Outlaw- Nice score on the body hammers! Looks like you’re on your way to complete the 14- piece body and fender set.

Looking at the catalog, it looks like they did use the same box. I might need to revise my search a bit, in what I am looking to fill it with.

Once you get a handle on the inventory, I might have a few correct fill ins. I bought a 30-ish set of 1/4" dr just to get 1 piece, many duplicates and I have a dozen or so of 1/2" dr as well

F96B6E3C-F503-4DD0-9B0F-032A3C242752.jpegMotor pulley today. Was with two Crowntop ones slightly larger. They only had paper stickers indicating Craftsman, and all three were apparently made of zinc-plated gold, so I only afforded the one, on the chance I find a long-C motor to put it on. (I have an age-stiffened long-C V-belt already.)

I believe the Long C pulleys (As well as Long C drive belts) were around well into the 1960s. A lot of the ancillary items marked Long C well outlived the accepted time frame for the logo. Nice find. I want the motors that are sitting around!

Today’s $30 swap meet find. One of the drawers will have to be glued back together and the veneer is peeling from the back.
