I hate mini boxes. So much so that I bought one last week just to show how much I hated them and how useless they are...

But turns out they are actually kind of cool? Especially in purple? ;-). I could do a hell of a lot with this load out.

Dammit... They got me 🤣 Early Black Friday BS. BUT for $15... Sure. Gonna use it at my desk at work... To put tools I use to fix other tools in. But because I don't need much to fix other tools, there's a few pieces I'm gonna keep in there for grins/chrome artifacts. I'm aware there's still more usable space. Lol.

Not sure if this has been posted previously- just caught this vid of someone tricking out a Lowe’s mini. More entertaining/amusing than practical but you be the judge.
Mini toolbox bling
Any idea what or where one can get that green paint marker he was using? I have a few of the regular paint markers, but I don't think they are as easily removed as what he used.

Just in case anyone else was interested, here is a link to the markers he used, he said that an alcohol wipe took the ink off easily.

Now that I finally got tempted enough to buy something I knew I'd have no idea what to do with...

Maybe not so useless. I seem to have a fair number of very frequently used small go-to items at various workstations. Pencils, pens, markers. Remote control gate and garage door openers for deliveries. Safety/cheater glasses and flashlight. (General workbench)

Mitutoyo calipers, parallels, 6 inch rule, 4 inch square, scriber (I don't do precision machining, so no micrometers), drawbar wrench/brass hammer. Safety/cheater glasses and flashlight. (Mill-imitating power tool)

Lathe chuck key. Drill chuck key. Small brass hammer. Hex keys. Small files and some sandpaper. (Safety/cheater glasses and flashlight). (Wore-out SB Heavy 10 lathe).

Various small - to - tiny bits for TIG welding, plus safety cheater glasses (Small object welding, not 200 amp plus stick welding where I'd be flying blind anyway...).

So many uses for one "useless" toolbox to corral frequently used small tools out of the detritus.

Note that I have one mini toolbox. All else is hypothetical. It never happened, and I was never here.

I held off for as long as I could. I was at HF 2 days ago buying something I actually needed, and the end cap with the mini boxes for $15 made me stop... I do love the bright green. When I picked it up and felt how heavy it was, I lost that $15 immediately. Right now it's sitting on my desk, waiting for me to figure out what to do with it. It will probably end up with the "mini" tools I have inside of it. Tiny squares, hand planes... mostly modeling tools.

So many posts about how these things aren't practical. or efficient. How about they are fun, and cost about as much as a burger and fries at a pretty cheap place? Or maybe a triple latte. It's OK to lighten up a bit and be a bit silly now and then.

Haters gotta hate, bro.
Just the way of it.
I have two of them still sealed up - in the box - sitting on my living room floor.
They are cute. I have no idea what I would use it for. Maybe some day I'll think of a purpose for one (or both) of them.

So far, I'm using the one I got for 1/4 inch drive stuff. Still have the bottom drawer to load. I'm thinking of getting another for pens, pencils and markers, although I would probably do better with a vertical rack for those. I'd also like a matching bottom box with a 2-1/2 or 3 inch deep bottom drawer.

I just checked these out at HF ... they need full pull out drawers before I make the leap. I’m sure there’s a hack?

I'm OK w/o the full pull out drawers, but I would like a way to keep them closed. I keep mine under the back seat of my Jeep and when I grab the box, the drawers all open. Anyone have a solution they are using on theirs?

I have four grandkids, 10, and 3 are eight years old. I bought four of the boxes at Horrible Fright. 2 red ones for the boys, then 2 blue ones for the girls. Then I hit up Maynard’s for four little key chain tape measures and four led flashlights with like four different modes to light up. Tapes were like$3. And lights were like $6 marked down to four or something. I’ll let you know if they’re a hit or not. Cheers and early Merry Christmas to all, Jimdon.

Theres a reason why toolboxes with drawers and no locks or latches aren't generally used in vehicles. Wrong application for the design. I use zippered tool bags in my vehicles.

Wrap a strap around it

Mount some magnets 🧲 on the backside of the drawers,or on the inside of the box

ITC (Harbor Freight Inside Track Club) has a coupon for 30% off anything under $20 this weekend. That makes the boxes less than 12 bucks. I still haven't come up with a good use for a second one, so I'll probably pass. I don't have excessive empty space just waiting for a little toolbox, and I have a few empty drawers in the big toolboxes since the last purge.
