Stopped in the old Harbor freight for a few consumables over the weekend and finally got a chance to see and put hands on one of these little guys. There was a sign posted near it stating sales were limited to two.
Fellas, I just don't get it. It is a horrible utilization of space. Something the size of a breadbox that could hold only a small fraction of that volume. Ball bearing slides for a drawer, that if filled with lead might weigh five pounds.
Maybe a "cute" display piece for those who collect miniture tools but beyond that............

Desk organizer mainly. Pencils, pens, thumb drives that kind of thing.

I got another for my model bench that will hold hobby knives, brushes etc.

Been wanting those for years, but I don't think Bauhaus has a US arm. That's gotta be the coolest gift card holder ever, even more so than the just-perfect for old Tonka trucks truck bed toolbox and just right for most toy farm animals stock tank Tractor Supply used to offer. Think at one point, they also had a Farmall wannabe tractor card holder. Now, like most stores, all the gift card holders are throwaway cardstock garbage. Lowe's here seems to market the mini buckets as gift card holders.

Also, cantilever boxes are the best for shoving a huge amount of tools in a limited space, while still being able to find the smaller ones without dumping out your box every time they're needed, or fussing with the removable caddy/tray most of my boxes have.

I must say, the US General mini toolbox is vastly better than the Kobalt one. (I both both). The US General was cheaper, has liners in it, drawer slides are way better, and it was boxed up really nice.
you're right they are. I wish they made the bottom box like the Kobalt ones...

Nah, not me. Here is mine, serving the same function as our OP, holding my fountain pen gear, for quick access in the home office. A bottom roller would be nice, as the tub of silicone grease on the top section is just a hair too tall.

Well, my birthday was very good to me.

PIT and Kobalt. I think the stack will stay PIT, and find another spot for the Kobalt

My little Toyo cantilever box is not actually much larger than the HF mini box but it sure fits a lot of tools.
So pretty man did you design and 3d print those wrench and pliers dividers yourself or where did they come from

do the US GENERAL decals come off easy on the mini HF boxes? I’m no HF basher honestly I got 500 bucks worth of HF tools but something about the us general name on a company that makes everything oversees rubs me the wrong way. I always hated that brand name.

No… it seems to be printed on.

I went with the HF one over the Kobalt because the slides are so much better. That said, I hate the branding. The branding on the bottom of the lid can be easily covered up with a sticker. The branding on the front is dimensional, and cannot be easily covered up.

Has anyone been able to remove the dimensional branding without ruining the paint?

I never realized the size of the Toyo cantis, I may have to buy one now. Looks like you've gone all-in on Japanese handtools. (y)
This definitely became a "thing" after I had assembled the first few core tools. I had a vision of a small kit of exclusively Japanese made tools (in a Japanese made tool box). Fortunately, because of the size of the box, I had a real size constraint to work within so I had to draw the line. I have a acquired a few smaller items since those photos were taken (mitutoyo ruler, some vessel power bits, etc.) but there's no room for more tools so the projectly is basically done.

I'm surprised none of the 3d printer guys haven't made a clip on flange to stack 2 of the US general boxes together. Can't be too difficult to remove the lid off the bottom one.

I got bored last weekend and shorted the slide pieces on the top drawer and got an extra inch of travel out of it. Can now see and get to the back of the drawer.

I didnt take pictures as I was doing it so ill go off memory as best I can. I used this video to show me how to pull them apart
First you have to remove the drawer from the box and then drill out the rivet that holds the slides into the box.
Once out, refer to the video to disassemble the slides. Once apart, I used a dremel to cut the black plastic bearing holder down to 2 bearings per with about 1/8" left after the bearing and then cut the metal cage bearing holder down to 2 bearings also. Cleaned any debris out of the bearings and reassembled the slider. I put a little bit of superlube on the bearings and everything slid like it should. You will have to drill the rivet hole out in the box and the slider to 3/16" before popping in a new rivet to hold the slider in place.
Obviously doing this will make the slides weaker and not carry as much weight and probably have a bit more play but I don't see these being loaded up with anything really heavy and the wiggle in the top drawer is not much, if any more than the factory bottom drawer.

Has anyone set a HF mini toolbox on top of a Kobalt mini bottom box? Does it fit together?

Yes it does.

I finally got two of the Kobalt top and bottom. Had to order online, my nearest Lowes rarely had the tops, and never got the bottoms. My local HF finally is able to get the mini boxes in stock for more than 24 hours so I was able to get one.

I had exactly the same thought as the HF boxes are a little nicer. The fit of the HF box on the Kobalt bottom box is not quite as tight, but it works. Maybe 1/8" of play HF to Kobalt vs around 1/16" with the Kobalt on Kobalt. Not enough that most would notice or care.

Your "significant other" ACTUALLY doesn't object to this being on the coffee table?
No I’m my own boss at home, my other halve has her own house 😁 , so I don’t have much complaining from that side.
that’s why I can even have a tool cart with tools and small lathe in my kitchen/living-room/ day job office for some late evening tinkering
I just have to remember to clean the floor after use.

Here is my Snap On promotional cabinet. It has all the hand and power tools in the drawers. The quarter on the mat shows the scale of the cabinet.
