Got some new goodies. Stahlwille deep offset box wrenches, Tone compact 3/8" ratchet, and Ko-Ken spring clip spark plug socket.

Nice. Ive never priced the Tones, but the Blackhawk versions of those ratchets are some of the best bang for buck ratchets going. Seriously underappreciated around here.

I really like it, quick release, 72 tooth can't complain. It came out to ~$36 shipped.

Newest addition to the ratchet collection. 1/4" drive Truecraft round-head, made in Japan.

Very smooth action and low back-drag. Easy to take apart and lubricate as well. No ball bearings flying out or anything like that.

Just picked this one up. And I'm honestly not too satisfied with it. Probably not going to be keeping it.

Picked this set up for $16. All 6-point, aka the good stuff that Lowes no longer carries in their stores anymore because they mainly only carry 12-point sets now.

Gearwrench swivels and Torx Tamper bit sockets

GearwrenchSwivels_zpsmvwghslz.jpg

Have you used the swivel sockets yet? I've read that the GW can be a little loose compared to Snap On, etc. But for the price I think they might be hard to beat. 3/8 chrome swivels are next on my wish list.

Just picked them up from Advance Auto Parts during lunch today. Everything in that picture cost me $60 total after a $40 off $100 coupon and B of A 20 percent cash back deal.

I find it strange that nobody complains about 12 point super long box or combo wrenches but becomes distraught over the thought of a 12 point socket. It makes zero sense to me. :dunno:
I prefer six point only because I often work in filth and they're easier do de-gunk. A 12 point dropped in the mud is a not good thing. You bang the six point on a tree and move on.
In a clean shop I could give a damn. One is as good as the other.

I have orings stretched on all my chrome swivels. It fixes that issue

Thanks everyone. The o-ring on the swivel seems like a great idea.

I already had a full 3/8 set in 12 point so I got this to complete the collection. That's all.

I got this set as well on clearance. Use it in my service van. Very convenient for that situation and durable. Awesome set for the money. Considering they sell the ratchet by itself for more than this set cost. It would be a good set when regular price at 30.

I prefer 12 points at work for anything not requiring an impact. I have never had an issue and I work on giant presses.

Wrenches are more likely to be used in tight spots where clearance and swing is an issue. Thus the preference for 12 point, and the debate over offset.

Myself, I dealt with the issue of their different strengths by buying 12 point standard pattern and 6 point long pattern wrenches.

If a bolt is partially rounded off, I find that 6-point sockets work better. I did an oil change recently on a car that had a partially rounded off 17mm drain bolt which also happened to be way over-tightened by the grease monkey at the dealership last time.

My 12 point socket started to slip when I tried to loosen the bolt. Grabbed an Armstrong 17mm 6-point socket and it came right off. I replaced the drain bolt with a new one of course, but that taught me a lesson about using 12 point sockets on slightly rounded bolts.

Do tell how please. AAP website with a coupon?

Sears with coupon code and SYW points. They were $45 a few days ago, $35.99 with the coupon code, and less if you had SYW points.

I posted the deal a few days ago here on GJ:
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=306678

The price has gone up since I originally posted the deal, but you can still get them for $39.99 with the coupon code, or less if you have SYW or surprise points in your account.

Couple more Gearwrench singles came today. Only need 15/16" and 20mm to have 8mm through 20mm and 5/16" through 1" reversible sets.

Explain the need for a 20mm ratcheting wrench? Or just OCD? Lol

So you think I will never need a 20mm wrench for anything? I don't know, do you only have the wrenches you need for the project you're working on right now?

I'm just trying to build a good set of tools for whatever may come up. My Craftsman RP wrenches go up to 25mm and I'm pretty sure I purchased them as a set.
