Tool holder from MSC—decided to spring for an actual Aloris and see how it compares to the knockoffs.

I picked up a used pneumatic fan clutch set on ebay, and I finally gave in and bought the NES 1008 internal set after much success with their external thread repair tools....

And my newest tool purchase is this OTC 7249 Ball Joint Press along with the cheapest 14pc set of adapters i could find. I ordered and received both this week. I just got done doing the front end on the truck, new upper & lower ball joints, inner & outer tie rod ends, brake pads/rotors & wheel bearings, and sway bar end links & bushings.

Where did you get an American made one? They are currently offshore made as far as I knew.

As far as I could tell, the OTC 7249 Ball Joint Press was made outside the US for a brief period (circa 2013/2014?) when most of the rest of their product line also moved but then it looks like that model press set at least came back to being 'Made in USA' I'm assuming when it started being rebadged as the Matco BJP7025C (for more than twice the price).

That's what I gathered anywho after carefully reading tons of customer reviews (like, all I could find) at places like Amazon. Some reviewers did say theirs were not made in the US but those all seemed to be a few years old, but I noticed all the newest reviews, as well as the oldest ones, said they were 'Made in USA'.

FWIW, I bought from Tooltopia.

I won an eBay auction more than a month ago for 8 sets (4 Metric + 4 SAE) of GearWrench ratcheting wrenches (reversible, flex, locking flex, and stubby) and they just finally arrived this week just in time for me to put some of them to use.

The only other ratcheting wrenches I have had are a 20pc metric/sae set of Craftsman (pretty sure they are also made by Apex ie: GearWrench) that are not flex or reversible so they have no offset and I've not found them all that useful. These seem like they are going to be a lot better.

I'm really impressed with this ball joint press. Last time I did these ball joints I used the loaner tool from AutoZone (it was an AllTrade/PowerBuilt) and I destroyed it. 4 seconds or less with the impact and the threads stripped out completely before it even seemed like I was putting much of a load on it. The ball joint sure didn't budge. I wound up taking the control arms off and having them pressed out for me for $50 and then I just barely was able to convince AutoZone to let me get the $150 deposit back. This OTC press gave me no trouble at all zipping them out and in.

You aren't supposed to use an impact on a ball joint tool. I'm sure it would have been just fine if you didn't.

You can stop a 3/4 impact on an OTC and it won't hurt it, we use them for brake anchor pins on semi's and they hold up just fine.

Seriously? The OTC press we use at work is at least 10 years old and has been used by a couple dozen different techs to zip out ball joints and brake anchor pins and I've never once seen anyone use a hand tool on it and it's no worse for wear than when it was new. I don't even think it's possible to get a typical brake anchor pin out without putting an impact on it, not even if you and your friend used a 48" cheater, and that's even if you did have to heat it up, which is often. The guys at work typically use a 3/4 impact on it to get them out.

Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure I recall that either snap on, mac, or matco shows an impact being used in their promo vids for their ball joint press. I'm just sayin'.

In any case I'd rather tear up my press and have to buy a new one than muscle out the ball joints I just did by hand. At my age I prefer to use an impact on almost everything I can. I even zip out spark plugs with a small impact. lol, and totally not kidding. You do it your way. I'll do it mine.

Make sure you grease the threads if you use an impact it makes all the difference in the world. Ask me how I know

This is gospel.

OTC ball joint press was the first specialty tool I acquired as a teenager -- been pounding on it with an impact for about 30 years, with the last 20 having it used by my other guys in the shop.....I can't imaging cranking on it by hand to press something apart.....

Gearwrench ratcheting flex wrenches from Sears and Gearwrench ratcheting stubby's from Advance Auto. Both metric and SAE. Deals were too good to pass up, at lust over $20 a set.

Wiha 15 pc wrench set. Made in india... one wrench ( 1-1/16th) has a different style box end see pics. Thinking of cutting off all the "soft grips" looks not bad under the soft grip. Also wish the pockets exposed the tips of the smaller wrenches. The two box ends in the pic are 1-1/16 and 1-1/8. Tried to bend the 1/4 inch by hand. Could bend a bit, but no plastic deformation. Dont have much experience with brands/metals/strength of materials. But i couldnt plastic deform it. Thumbs up for me

Edit: pulled the soft grip off the box end also. Looks the same. Size forged into handle. No brand name though. Could be in the middle but cant get the soft grip that far off

Did the computer come with it? What kind of computer is that? It looks like a blue Apple laptop.

Replacement handle for my roto head:

Set of vintage angle wrenches....need to track down a matching 11/16:

This one was an unexpected surprise....a gift from a good friend for helping him out with a few things. I don't even know what I will use it for yet but man is it nice.

Matt you've been raking in a bunch of nice stuff lately. Good job. Can't wait to see it all organized in your 1001.

Thanks. I've been pretty busy so I haven't done too much, but I have been cleaning stuff out....I actually have a little more coming before I rearrange too much 😂

I wish I had friends like that.

I think if you're good to people it will come back to you. This is one of those cases, although I feel a little guilty because it is such a nice gift.

It's actually just the cheapest tablet I could find that met all the qualifications of running the program. It's an rca cambio.

How you like the program? Monthly cost or just annual updates? I've seen your posts, so I value your opinion and comparison. Looking for a personal main program without buying a solus

Milwaukee 2763-22 and 2754-22. Decided to make the switch from my cordless snap on stuff and couldn't be happier. Much better price, better warranty, and more power. oh and I got an extra battery thrown in for free when I bought both kits

It's technically not a replacement for any 'real' scanner that has bi-directional controls. What it is is an enhanced global obd scanner. It will only be used to speed up diagnosis dealing with advanced driveability problems. It has specific tests for fuel trim, o2s, cats, volumetric efficiency, etc. Even talks to you and tells you if there is a problem, automatically pulls up troubleshoooters when it sees a problem and shows definitions of mode 6 tests. Basically everything I had to do in my head before is now put into a nice display. It's not exactly a cheap setup initially, but the updates are free. I opted for the bluetooth version so I'm in it for roughly $1500 with the cost of the tablet. You could pick up a used solus/modis/verus for that cost, but of course you would have yearly updates to pay for. I wouldn't have one as my only scanner and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone that didn't spend the majority of their day dealing with driveability issues across multiple vehicle lines. http://www.automotivetestsolutions.com/escan-pro.html
