Turns out I liked these 3/8" MAC extensions so much that I ended up getting the 1/4" set to go along with them:

:rocker:

attachment.php

Update on this set:

Take note, MAC cannot produce 1/4" extensions worth of ****. Of this brand new 5-piece set, I have found that 3 of them are bent from the factory (6", 10" and 14") enough that you can see it bowed out while using them and, additionally, one (6") also has a defective ball detent that won't accept a socket no matter how much force you try to use. The bend is significant enough on the 10" and 14" that they won't even roll on a flat surface without bottoming out. :wtf:

I understand that manufacturing defects happen, but 3 extensions bent and 1 completely unusable out of brand new a 5-piece set is pretty piss poor quality control. I guess I got lucky that the 5-piece 3/8" set was flawless, but yeah, stay away from these in 1/4" apparently. :dunno:

Going to track down a MAC guy to attempt to warranty these out in person, because I have zero faith in a mail-in exchange if the odds of a factory dud are this ridiculously high. :(

Update 2:

So much for locating a dealer. I called MAC Tools and waited on hold for ages only to get a customer service rep that informed me of their latest dealer locator policy. Get this, they claim that so many dealers have been attacked and beaten, robbed or worse, that they no longer give out dealer contact information, even to new shops. Literally will not give out a phone number. "It's a liability issue for MAC tools," was all they'd tell me. I asked how all their competitors are able to give out dealer info, but they had no response. There is a dealer route management team you can appeal to, but no way to speak to them by phone, and they don't take inbound email, so you have to give the customer service rep your email to forward along, and hope for a reply "in a few weeks." I told them their policy was pure insanity and just hung up. :wtf:

I'm going to toss the broken extension, relegate the bent ones to beater duty and already ordered something else. Will post that up in a few days when it gets here.

Been on a tool binge lately. Here's the latest addition (Williams S-52EHFA). Real nice USA tool for $55 delivered.

Interesting. I recently had a Tekton 1/4" extension with the same ball detent issue, but of course Dave took care of me.

Tools for the kitchen... Was making rice the other day and the handle broke off my last decent pot!!

This set retail was 500 bucks, on sale for 99... And imo that leaves the 400 dollars saved to buy more tools!!

They are not pro models, but are decently thick, have flat bottoms, and seem pretty good so far...

Got this updated Gearwrench 7 piece hook & Pick set from Amazon. It has four mini hooks, a larger straight awl, cotter pin puller, and a hose pick. Part number 84000H, made in Taiwan. I like the revised shaped handles with the black/orange color scheme. Amazon pricing is a little strange. This set runs $19.79 but, just the four piece mini picks alone, run $23.12 and if you were to buy the older black & red handled 7 piece set, it runs $36.11. :headscrat

Well, it works is all about I can say. It's pretty thick stainless so it won't bend easily. Not my preferred choice for an ice cream scoop though. Not ideal for scooping unless you got a party size tub of ice cream. I really only bought it for the novelty & the memories from when I was a kid.

b1bf6c8360a811609c2e12dbd380fdc9.jpg

I sent a link to one of these scoops to my mom the other day. I grew up in Southern California, and for me, Thrifty was a treat if I got A's on my report card, for every A I got a scoop. I still remember the day when I got straight A's and my sisters didn't, so I had a cone with 5 scoops on it, and they had their single scoop cones.

Update on this set:

You can just mail in the defective one. Slight bends happen on thin metal when they're stamped or as a byproduct of forging. It happens to long combos too. Your best bet for OCD compliant straight ones is minimal roll stamping (no knurling).

Forwarding contact info is also fairly standard. Snap-on won't give you a number either so going off on MAC for having the same policy claiming no one else does it is unfair. Your best bet is to call a few local shops.

I just bought the same set and was confused just the same about the pricing of the other sets!

Been looking at these for over a year now, finally saw one in a store (oreilly's) and bought it. 4" 1/4 swivel head 90tooth bit driver. Bonus, this one was cheaper than they are on Amazon by a substantial amount and came with a pair of bits that are probably useless but still a bonus

I've already got a bench top chamfering machine but I picked up this little guy to do internal chamfering like for holes. Little guy it is, this thing is tiny, much smaller than I expected! Looks like it uses TCMT 21.5x inserts. $50 shipped, from China.

Dusted off my old Hobart Handler 187 and finally pulled the trigger on a C25 bottle and welding cart. A upgraded ground clamp and the welder lays down some seriously nice beads with the solid wire and shielding gas, almost looks like I know what I’m doing. The cart is pretty meh, but for the price will work. I wanted to make one out of a HF side cabinet but the blue ones (to match my 56” US general) are back ordered until August. May still try that at some point.

I got that, too, and also at O'Reilly. I noticed my AZ also carries them and seems to keep a better stock (standalone kiosks near the registers).

I also got the 11205 version on Amazon as I think the swivel head might be obnoxious in some situations

No, before someone asks, they can't be cleaned off.

Three out of the six piece set that look like this, in multiple places. The people SK have doing their quality control must be blind or just not give a ****.

SK said I could mail them in, wait 2 to 3 weeks after receipt for them to process and then maybe mail back something better, so minimum 1-month timeline. Postage on my dime of course. Fortunately Amazon is taking them back and sending a free replacement by this weekend, but I won't be surprised if it's not any better. I'd love to be wrong, but the odds are not in their favor .

Help me here folks. Can anyone stateside produce 1/4" extensions that aren't either broken, bent or poorly chromed out of the box? 🤔

Picked these grease guns up at Ollies for $8. What a heck of a deal for Blue Point. They have a ton more. One of these is going to my friend in Indiana. If anyone wants one I can pick some up and send them for the price plus shipping or trade for license plates. A $50 grease gun for $8.

Ohh, nice, I had no idea about those. I was just in the store last weekend & didn't notice those. Those look like they could be very useful for me. I'll have to grab some on the next 30% $10< (yeah I'm still a hard headed coupon'r).

Bought this very pretty 3/8 Blackhawk ratchet - $20 on eBay. Haven't used it yet, but seems real nice.

The first order of business was to disassemble it and give it some lube. When I went to take it apart, I was a bit disappointed as it seemed to have a plastic retainer holding in the mechanism. I couldn't understand how this plastic thing held things together. So I carefully picked at it and boooooing - it went flying into oblivion. Apparently, the plastic thing was some sort of snap ring holder that probably facilitated automated manufacturing of the ratchet. After the plastic thing was gone, the ends of totally normal retaining ring were revealed. So, I took it apart, gave it some Superlube and all is good.

It looks real nice, has a very small head to get in tight spaces, and a reasonably high tooth count (72).What's not to like? Time will tell how well it works out...View attachment 1228324IMG_0817.JPG

Proto 1/2” drive deep well metrics 10-27mm. Nice US made sockets from first impressions especially for the price.

I thought by getting the unlabeled westling trays the OCD would be okay, but nooooo now I need to find a 9mm deep 12pt and proto doesn’t make one... 😂65F51F09-4A49-4708-82A1-7F9BA1372BB2.jpeg

Snap On ATECH2FR125B, ordered directly from Snap On.

Super happy with it. The new 125 ft lb models have MAG Comp and are also accurate to 4% from 5-24 ft lbs. So in theory, you can rely on one torque wrench from 5-125 ft lbs. 🤔

Garden tools count?
Been wanting to replace a few for an upcoming project. US made garden tools aren’t impossible to find but they’re also not plentiful. In the search I came across Bully Tools in Ohio. 100% made in the USA. Reasonable prices and the quality looks great (14 ga steel with reinforcement). Used them a bit and am happy so far.

The tamper is 3/8” plate with a steel handle 👍

Been quite happy with my Snap-On extensions. Hate to pay that kind of money for them, but they are nice.

Yes, Snap On. I know people don't want to pay the asking price, but fit and finish is second to none for everything Snap On that I own. Their chrome is perfect. Can't say the same for other companies/manufactures. Leave it at that.

@ kelpaso1; I agree. I'm not a MAC guy, so I don't know if those are legit, recently made or old stock, but they indeed look terrible. I would of been very disappointed and promptly return them. With Ohio being stamped into the wrench, I'm assuming they are a USA made version, but they look more like something made in India that costs $5 on Amazon. If you covered up the brand name, I would never guess those are MAC.

I picked up the Snap On 3/8" impact swivels a while back, even snagged the 19mm and 21mm to complete the set.
The 1/4" swivel set was on sale last week and my Snap On guy had 1 set left, so I had him set it aside for me. Picked it up on Friday. They are a nice addition to my Snap On 1/4" long neck 14.4v ratchet I picked up 2 days earlier.

I have not used the 1/4" set yet, but I'm happy I finally got 'em and I waited for the newer versions of both sets without the collar/ring around the top.... Damn they are expensive, but damn they are nice to have.
