Tagging this as I have a couple of old ones you honyockers might find interesting.

*I use the term "honyockers" because one of them was given to me by my dad last year and that's what he called my brother and I when we were kids. He'll be 82 next month . . .

Hi guys a question for you experts. Why don't we see more of those pipe wrenches that are offset at 90 degrees? They saved my *** one time when the drain pipe was real close to the walls in a corner. I could not get any of my pipe wrenches into that tight spot. Now remember this I was not a pro plumber but had to solve this problem, went to the store and discovered this 90 degree offset wrench. Let me tell you it made the work alot easier. A DRAMA queen would tell it saved her life, but let's not go there. So it surprises me that me doi not see many posted. DAH?

Hard to say Gypsy. (and sorry for the late reply, I never saw your post...)

Probably just habit and conservative approach to "weird" looking tools. :dunno:

They can save your bacon, but they are a bit "slower", if you can believe that, than the regular wrenches. With everyday use, you get "used" to them.

Does that make sense?

Yes I believe you may be right in your comment, but if you were to use it more often then wouldn't it feel just as comfortable or easy to use?

I see these at HD maybe, I really like them. Mist of my plumbing is 440 Channelocks and I forget what its called but it really works well especially for different sizes.

Needed a big one at work a while back. Most of what I do never need more than a 24” (pictured) but removing 4” bull plugs that’s been in since the 50’s I needed a 48”

Anyone put a mirror polish on an aluminum pipe wrench? I think that would look pretty neat hanging on the wall.

There’s a nice shape used 36” Ridgid aluminum pipe wrench at a local pawn that I’ve been negotiating on. Got em down to $70 plus tax but I’m holding out for $50 out the door. It started at $100. I’ve been needing more than my 24”ers lately and a 3 foot aluminum would kick ***.

I needed a pair for a plumbing project. I told my wife I wanted an 18" and 24" pair of Ridgid wrenches, but that would be expensive for how often I would use them. So...she went out and found the exact wrenches at an auction for $5 each. Cleaned the dust and old pipe dope off of them, and put on some grease to keep the jaws from rusting.

mine dont stay in the tool box, they are in the work truck, I like the alumimum ridgid in 36, i usually have to paint them a odd color like harbor freight lime green so they dont go walking off, all my tools get painted, even the snap on. they like to walk around

Yeah, new prices are crazy. I've found all mine at pawn shops, estate sales, etc... For super cheap.

Might only need to use a pair a couple times a year, but having the right tool for the job makes life a million times easier.

Just picked up a Ridgid compound leverage wrench from an auction, yesterday. First picture is the actual wrench. Second one is of a new one.
