I have cracked concrete too. Mine is heaved too much to use RD or tile unless I grind it down. How big a "step" would you say you have at worst?
Your garage is SO simplified, where do you store...Christmas decorations, luggage, spare materials-wood, pipe, etc? I wonder if you've thought of putting a shelf across the width of your garage above the garage door for this purpose? Finished of course.
