I really enjoy this build; it's refreshing to see something of a more modest size where the owner is making decisions based on budget, planning permission and what you can get hold of. I love the doors - a real find.

Good luck with the floor.

No garage updates but I pulled the 205 out of the garage this morning and got the modified arches on. It's nothing special but a budget friendly form of Motorsport and I am still learning how to drive so at least when I crash it won't be too expensive to repair.

My friend and I have re-sprayed it just to make it stand out a bit as well, think it makes a difference from the black / grey.

Jon: Just kicking up your thread so others can see your great garage. are you waiting for a few funds to finish the roof and cement? sorry to bug you and just letting you know that i' still watching your cool little garage build that you've done almost all by hand.

Also you might have said what kind of siding you used, but please mention it again because it looks awesome. was it pretty easy to install?

good luck

Hi

Quite a lot of progress the past few days but yeah have been waiting on some funds.

Thank you for the kind words, not sure if I have done it all right but I am learning all the time as well and having fun.

I got a load of free pallets from work so have made of sofa on the patio and dug out the front of the garage for a hard standing area for the motorbike.

Also, 2 concrete trucks turned up today with 10 tonnes of concrete, had it all down and laid before lunch, fairly good estimate as had maybe a third of a tonne left over which I used in front of the garage doors.

One minor incident where the truck went through a rusty manhole but luckily the wheel was too big to fall all the way in, could have been a lot worse if it had.

I forgot to mention the siding on the garage as well, we call it shiplap. It is very common on garden sheds over here.

It has an interlocking piece which sits over the top of the piece below and using a nail gun my parents put it all up in a mornings work.

Jon: looking good. is it the picture or do you have two different levels of cement inside the garage?

your siding looks amazing and i might try some of that on the side of my house.

nice inexpensive way to create some seating and tables outside your home too.

cheers

Only one level, the centre bit was to create an expansion joint in the floor ehuch I cut flush afterwards.

I have mainly been working on the car lately getting it ready for the season but have managed to get the insulation and plasterboard in the garage. I am going to give it another week and then paint the floor so I can get units in.

Jon: You garage is starting to look as good on the inside as the outside. BTW when you finish do you have another project so you can keep up your exercise that you've been getting while building this garage?

Happy Easter

Looking good. What's the plan for the gaps around the front doors?

Plenty to keep you busy in between events this season on the hillcilimb circuit. Good luck in the 205.

Hi,

The width is 4m, I wanted wider but planning was rejected.

The doors will have stop beading and then a weather strip to seal on the outside.

I managed to get a free tin of floor paint from work aswell, not a great colour but sealed the concrete nicely.

No real updates on the garage but I have been racing. Put a lot of work in on the car over the past month or so which paid off over the weekend with 8 faultless runs at Wiscombe hill climb.

Managed to improve my PB from 3 years ago by 1.2 seconds but there is definitely more to come when I return.

Hi

I have not updated for a while but the final bit of rendering was finished last week and all painted this week including glossing the doors. I hope to get the block paving complete this weekend and my attention will finally turn to the inside which is a bit if a tip at present.

Thanks for looking

Jon: nicely done especially the siding match and the roof of your new garage. is that about a 3 inch rise from the driveway to your garage floor? many ways to fix that and easiest is with a little wood ramp if you don't want the bump going in and out.

great work all around and now you'll have to find a different way to exercise and maybe driving around the country side in that car of yours might help.

cheers

No real progress on the garage, but I have bought a new car!! Garage wise I have block paved in front of the garage to smooth out the transition from drive to garage.

The car - it's a BMW E91 330D M Sport Touring. The drive is great and is perfect for towing my hill climb car!

It's not a BMW exhaust but an aftermarket one. The standard 335 exhaust has slightly smaller tailpipes but I love the look of it though. Your right it drives great!

I am just fitting a Witter detachable tow bar at the moment as I have another race in a couple of weeks and then I need to get the electrics sorted out.

I may get some time to wire the garage before the winter else I will never be able to see anything in there.

Hi

Thanks for the comments!

I will put up some more pictures no problem. They are a rumbled lock so are distressed to look older, it was either that or granite which cost about 10 times as much. The plan is to do the whole drive in them once all the other work has finished.

The other garage is to be converted into a study and a downstairs shower room when finances permit as the roof will need ripping off and completely renewing. It is currently asbestos sheet.

The garage is better than expected but soon fills up with stuff, my wife currently has an additional freezer in there but soon to be added is a new washing machine I think I may end to extend backwards at some point in the future for a utility area.

I side I really need to crack on with the electrics and plasterboarding and then I will post up some pictures.

Due to it being race season I have been watching a lot of events which takes away from building but I can get on with this over the winter.

Thanks for reading

Jon

Hi

Taking a bit of time between updates but the garage is now wired and plumbed and am gradually getting things sorted inside. I have built a storage frame with temporary uprights but want to hang this off of the wall at some point.

I wanted to get the window in the old garage before the winter sets in too much but seems to blend in well with the house. The conversion will just tick along over the winter I think between modifying the Pug.

Here's a few more pictures anyway.

Hi. I follow this build regularly and it's looking great. What happened to the old garage? Last time I looked you had two, now the old one is part of your house.
Oh, and finish the driveway and the whole house looks stunning - great job.

Jon: looks great. I might have moved that little block wall out a bit frem edge of garage door to give you some room for error pulling in and out, but you are a race driver so you probably didnt need it.

Street apeal is great to with the new garage fitting right in.

That's a great build jonb. Particularly like the glossed doors to your shop they have a lot of character. And the little loft section looks like it's come in handy already.

Cheers Grumblebum.

Many thanks for the comments.

The old garage is being converted into a study and a downstairs shower room. I need to rip the roof off of this and fit a new one and insulate etc before I can do much more inside for now.

The wall is set back a little but I will always be reversing in from the open side. I has applied for planning for a double entrance drive but my front wall is protected so I could not removed much of this.

The loft is literally a dumping ground. I really need to get the hang of throwing things out but I end up hoarding far too much.

The only real job is to fully insulate now and install some security lighting.

Many Thanks

Jon

No updates for a while, I have been busy on the car and converting the old garage but I received some Christmas presents which I wanted to share.

Halfords Professional Tool chest, should keep most of my tools tidy and in one place.

Set of ratchet spanners, have wanted some for ages but never got round to buying them.

I'll post some pictures up of the conversion at some point to aswell.

Thanks and merry Christmas.

I got the cabinets half price, always wanted a decent set and they seemed to be a good deal . Really please with them.

The hill climbing went really well, this season was more of a shake down for next season after the mods on the car. I am hoping to fit an lsd for next year and have fitted an electrically assisted steering column to stop it ripping the wheel out of my hands.

I also have the beginnings of a new engine on the go aswell but can't see that being done for a while.

I went and watched the WRC in North Wales a month or so ago and it was awesome, have been toying with selling up and getting a rally car but decided against it due to costs.

I think the doors were the best bit, £60 from eBay and only round the corner from me.

It's really nice having the garage, I toyed with the idea of having a door directly into the house but because I knew I would be welding, painting, grinding etc decided against it to keep smells at bay.

Thanks

Jon
