Hi,

I thought I would update with a more car related subject. I have been fitting an electronic assisted steering column, when I fit an limited slip diff I need something to stop the wheel being ripped out of my hands so it seems an obvious choice. It's taken a bit of fabrication work but I am really pleased with the end result.

I am also planning an engine build which is an amalgamation of 3 engines. Because of regulation I have to keep the standard engine block, but I can change everything else. The plan is to fit the crank, pistons and rods from a 1.8 16v Citroën engine which are a direct swap, the crank has a longer stroke so will increase the capacity of my engine from 1.6 to 1.8. I am then going to fit a 16 valve head from a GTi6 engine. Running this with engine management and throttle bodies should see more almost double my horse power and make me more competitive for not too much outlay, I hope.

Anyway, here's a few pictures including a home made engine stand, more because I enjoy making things.

Looking forward to see how you get on with the engine build as it is a similar type of construction to the Rover K series I am doing for my eldest son.

Many thanks for sharing.

Cylinder head arrived today. Will need a good clean up before installation but it will bolt directly onto the block as is.

Had my first race at the weekend, thoroughly enjoyed it and have decided to make some purchases, have bought an LSD and Satchshift so will post some updates as I install these.

I had all the wheels powder coated and they look much better, managed to do this at work so only cost me the tyre removal and refitting.

Engine wise, I have been learning alot and have timed in the cams. I am still deciding whether to run motorbike throttle bodies or carbs. I get varying opinions on this from everyone I speak to, any opions on this.

Prior to the first race I set the tacking and borrowed a set of corner weights, with my weight in the drivers seat and full fuel, water etc the car came in at 783kg. I would like to have this a bit lower so am considering fibreglass panels if anyone knows a good supplier and am probably going to buy a couple of varying size hole saws.

Tried mounting the tensioner on the car and unfortunately the engine block I have is the early version which does the had the correct hole on. I managed to have a plate laser cut to mount the tensioner in the right place.

I also bought a new gearshift kit. A local company fabricated a lot of race part for numerous models of Peugeot's and his own area wins a lot of national races.

The kits he does are awesome and this was very easy to fit and feels very nice. Proof will be at the next race.

I also purchased an LSD which I am hoping should make a big difference. Very easy to fit which surprised me but took a lot of time stripping everything out of the way to get the diff casing off

Just a quick picture I took at the last race, nice evening sun a day the towing setup.

And finally, just because it's summer I treated myself to a new toy!

JON: I know a few Aussie members here that race smallish cars if you might need some questions answered with your right hand drive car.

I can't say much about your race car, but your Beemer with it on the trailer and hauling it to races looks like fun.

is your garage done for now or did you still have a few things left to do. any chance you can post a before and after pictures to show some of the members what you started with and how it came to be?

cheers

It's always very helpful to know others with similar cars, the amount of advice I have had from others has made my car so much better. Listening to others experiences has definitely saved me wasting money on things that I would have just changed quite soon after aswell.

The garage is still progressing internally, I will grab a few shots in the next few days but is still a way off being complete. I really want to get the roof insulated and board and and then paint all of the inside but I think that maybe a winter job amongst other things.

I have been busy converting the old garage which is almost complete so will free up some more time.

I am also planning on block paving the whole driveway on August so that's most of that month ruled out.

Anyway, here are a couple of before pictures:

I will take some after pictures this evening and out up, but it's a really nice space now and I'm working on the car out there most evenings.

As promised a couple of pictures of the outside. Just a couple of security lights to add and it's all done. Oh and the block paving.

On the inside there's still a fair bit of sorting to do but I am gradually getting there. I have some grey floor paint to replace the red and once it's all boarded out I will paint it all white to make it as bright as possible.

We are considering selling up in the next few years to buy a place with land to start a couple of businesses so I need to see how that goes but if we end up staying I am going to put a utility area on the back so the garage will be free of clutter.

See how things pan out really.

Hi,

Update wise, there's not really alot happened in the garage. The plan all along was to block pave the driveway and it's now all done. I did it all myself, 20 tonnes all dug with a pick and a shovel and another 6 tonnes brought back in and over 3000 blocks. I am very proud of it and finishes the house off very well.

Oh, and I bought a new car. Eventually it'll be a full camper conversion but for now it's got a bed and we can cook bacon sandwiches in the back. Perfect for when we are away racing or out for days out on the moors, with the new addition to the family.

I recently did a track day at Castle Combe track in the south of England. Could resist the opportunity to snap a picture of my little boy in his first race car.

I am sure one day he will be quicker than his dad!

JON: all the pictures are AWESOME, but if i had to rate them i'd say in this order:
1) your little guy napping in that cool car
2) your new driveway and gate
3) countryside without any houses or people
4) your new car

that said i've done some of that digging, moving stones and such and you did a fantastic job.

i might finish off the street side with cement and maybe use a Trex or other plastic type deck material for a form on the street side or just put in some bricks. i put a brick border on my gravel parking strip where the bricks are on city property about 5 years ago and so far they are still ok and not a peep from the city.

cheers and keep up the postings as you have time and have fun raising that young Jackie Stewert or whoever your favorite racer is.
