Flowers and Tools.

The freezing weather brought in wife's hanging and potted plants. Thankfully, not as many as last year. They go behind the tools and don't need much attention, just a little water. I treated myself to a nice new shop trashcan (red) to handle the "debris" from their leaves. Some of these plants are as much as five years old.

I mounted the little Wilton vise on my back bench. I also added a magnifying lamp over it. I picked up a new magnifying and lighted headset for my failing eyes. The little Wilton will serve well on light duty on this bench. My shop helper was not impressed!!

He's got to drop in here first! Nice bench there for smaller stuff. I've been planning an electronics/guitar sit down bench myself, now you've got me looking for one of those magnifiers with lights you've got mounted on your bench. Do you find it useful?

I really like the (is it a briefcase?) with tools on the middle bench. That is a good idea. I might make one out of wood and put all my extra tools I don't know what to do with for a travel tool kit. Great looking shop.

Herb, I have mentioned it before, but there is a standing invitation to the Shed Downunder to weave your garage magic here.

As usual fantastic work all round.

The new magnifying lamp was to replace my older one which I have had for several years. I find these lamps invaluable for doing smaller work, such as fishing reels, clocks, appliances, etc. The one I just got is really nice, it is much brighter with LED, and moves anywhere you push it. I highly recommend them.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting!!

The briefcase tool kit is shown on page 5, post 95 of my thread. It is a nice kit and I can easily take it along and have most things I would need for a repair. I used it often when doing work at our apartment complex. Thanks so much for stopping in, and thank you for your kind remarks!!

Best Regards
Herb

Thanks for the info on the briefcase Herb. Any chance you have a photo of what's underneath the bottom layer of tools. Looks like I might be doing some leather craft on this project.

For bj383ss:

Here is a breakdown on the briefcase tool kit. It has two removable pallets.
The bottom part is large enough for test meters, larger tools.

Here is another one I don't use. It is the gate swing hard shell type. There is no nice way to say it, but the material used in the pallets smells like puke.

Otherwise it is a nice case.

Finally got all three vises done. Grand daughter will letter them when she gets back home from college for Christmas. All three will be mounted in the shop. I am still looking for a Wilton "bullet", hopefully a 4 or 5 inch. The blue painted craftsman vise is from the late 1960s.

Best Regards
Herb Spencer

Very nice work on the vises. That small Wilton is a nice addition. I can see why you would like to have the bigger brother to go with it. Best of luck finding one

Thanks for stopping by and your nice comments. I would indeed like to have a Wilton Machinist's Vise when and if I can ever find a deal on one. I was looking at a new one today on www.northern tool.com and it was on the top side of $1000.00!! What I really want is one of the older ones, and as long as it is working fairly well, I can take care of the clean up.

Thanks for your visit!

Best Regards
Herb

The shop is a disaster!! I finally got started on topping my benches with my 3/4 Oak flooring cut offs. I get these free from my Son in Law who does flooring and tile. I have to wear a respirator as the oak dust drives me over the edge sinus wise.
I found a couple of doors to hang on the front of the bench from our old kitchen cabinets. I made a sample of the color I will use on the bench top.
I will likely mount my larger vise on the newly topped bench, and my smaller blue one on the other bench behind.
I said I would do this work on a rainy day and that held true!! The weather this week is miserable, however it is perfect for hanging out in the shop!!!
Only three more workbenches to go!!!! Looks like I will be torn up for a bit.

Best Regards
Herb Spencer

Great work as per usual Herb.

I am looking forward to the day I can recycle the Oregon and left over steel from the carport into another bench as well, not that I have the room anyway.
Very envious of your benches.

WOW, looks great. Although, looks unusually at same time cause I'm so used to your red and gray color scheme.

Have a good one, Gerard

Thanks, the 3/4 Oak tongue and groove flooring is really tough stuff. It takes stain well, and I think it will hold up as long as I do.

I am following your work on the construction of the carport and it is looking
great!! Thanks for restoring the old tool box too!

Best Regards
Herb

Not to worry. Only the surface of the bench will be stained. The apron and the doors I will install will be cherry red. The rest of the bottom will be gray. I couldn't live with it otherwise!!!! LOL

Finally found the time to get my workbench done. I modeled it after an old bench I saw in an auto service. I put the 3/4 Oak T&G top, which brought it to a 2 inch thick work surface. I mounted my larger redone vise, and for having almost no money in it, I was pleased with the outcome. This is my main workbench and will go under the window from where it sits now. And for my good friend GERARD from the "Five Stitches Garage", it DID come out red and gray!!
Best Regards
Herb Spencer

Very nice Herb, another beautiful bench.

My long-term goal was always to just have a functional work space, but I can now see an investment in some red paint in my future - thanks a lot Herb.

Many thanks guys!! I appreciate very much your comments!
I got a JEGGS workmat to protect the top of the bench, and a Snap-on office mat for the shop desk. Pretty cheap on Amazon. Also scored this S&K set, another "You ****" bargain.
All of you have a wonderful Christmas, and thanks for your friendship!!
