Please tell me that you ARE NOT WEARING A MAIDS TU'TU around the house.

Just my first impression when I read that you were taking on the household chores while your wife was on the mend

My wife and I wish her a speedy recovery

Best wishes and speedy recovery to Mrs Spencer and good luck wearing the apron while the wife is healing.

Gerard

Thank you so much. The wife is doing well right now, just a week after the surgery.
Not wearing a kitchen apron, but damn, I make a mean bologna sandwitch!

Thanks for your good wishes. Problem is the wife is going to have a hard time mowing, dusting, sweeping, and pulling the plow with only one arm for a while.

Herb,

All the best to your wife.

Your red ute looks in great condition for its age do you garage it?

Thanks.

Thanks. We appreciate your wishes to the wife!

My 2004 Chevy has 72000 miles and I have taken good care of it. Around here the weather is usually pretty good, so since I do 1/2 garage and 1/2 shop in my two car, I let the truck stay outside. If necessary, I can move things around and get it in.

Thanks for your visit and Best Regards

Just checking in Herb, how are things going?

Wishing both of you all the best for a speedy recovery.

Regards

1/2 Cup

Thanks the wife's left shoulder has gone pretty well on the surgery. It is just a long recovery which takes about 12 weeks of therapy to get back to where you need to be. She is doing well with things now. I hope I don't need one done on myself however--------------.

LMAO. When I was single I USED to know how to cook. Wife and I have been married 12 years this Feb and for those years I'm not allowed near the her stove. LOL.

Glad to hear your wife is going well. All the best to both of you with the recovery, it's always a bit stressful when your spouse is having medical difficulties.

Everything I know about cooking somehow involves an ice cold Killian's Irish Red.

Herb, your garage is fantastic! I like how you have a place for everything and everything in it's place. One day, I hope my shop is as organized as yours. Anyways, I hope your wife continues to recover quickly and that she doesn't get tired of your bologna sandwiches.

Remember you might need her help sometime so maybe we can provide some simple recipes for you to look like a star.

Got a crockpot?

This is what I am making for tonight.

Bean soup

Soak 1pound dried beans over night in pot.

Or use 2 cans of beans

Drain beans and add to crock pot

Cut up
3 potatoes
3 carrots
1 onion

Add seasonings to your taste

Add catsup, mustard, barbecue sauce

2 cups diced ham

Add water to cover

Cook on high all day

Serve.. Whatever I can I put in the crockpot since it is so easy to clean the stoneware.

The wife is doing well. I have her moved on the Morning Report from SIQ(sick in quarters) to LtDy (light duty). She will answer phones in the Orderly Room until her shoulder is fully healed.
Thanks for your visit, I am very impressed with you own operation and I will soon visit your thread again to keep up with your goings on.

Thanks for the recipe, it sounds excellent! I do a similar thing with Great Northern Beans and Petite Jean Smoked Ham. (BeansNHam rather than soup). I am going to try your bean soup, as I am a soups of all kinds lover. Sounds great!! I will let you know how we liked it, but can already tell you we will! I will probably add a couple dashes of Liquid Smoke to the pot. And, maybe, a cup of Killian's Irish Red.

Just cleaned up after dinner. My soup was excellent and there is a container that might go somewhere else for someone's lunch. But not mine. You know what I mean?

Whatever I can fit in the crockpot gets cooked in it. Just have to plan ahead in the morning , then just check a couple of times a day.

To night I added a cup of rice and a bag of frozen mixed vegetables the last 2-3 hours for a twist and some color.

Great day at the flea market!! I got this old red hip roof tool box and a nearly new Craftsman 1/2" Drive Torque Wrench. I love these old tool boxes, and I already have one that I use for my propane torches. These boxes were the ones used by the Army for the "Tool Kit, General Mechanic, Automotive". (1950s through 1970s) The lock we used on these was the "American 200 series" shown in the photo. I still have several of these excellent locks.
I was pleased to get the nice torque wrench, it has barely been used. I will check it against my digital one to see if it is accurate, and I am sure it is.

All in all a great day!! I "might" be tempted to paint the tool box OD Green and stencil my name on it, US Army style. I also have the complete list of the tools that went in that kit, so I will most likely make up a "Tool Kit, General Mechanic, Automotive" out of it.

ps: Would 20.00 bucks for both items qualify me for a "YOU ****"?

Best Regards
Herb Spencer

Wow Herb you do get a "You ****". And you just jogged my memory. I have one of these toolboxes in the attic. It belonged to my grandpa. He had it in his truck for road side repairs. I can't remember what kind of shape its in. Will have to dig it out when I get home form work tonight. I also have several of those locks my Father in law had stashed in his toolbox.

Really hard to date those planes. The wooden one could be extremely old, and I would preserve them and keep them as displays. Those are some that should really restore well!!

Thanks for the visit buddy!!

Herb,

That plane of Dons' look very much the same as the one I picked up some months ago.

Mine is a Record and it has stamped War Finish on many of the parts which would date it around 1940 - 1950s.

I tend to agree his metal ones are 40s or 50s. The wooden one is probably shop made and could be pretty
old.

Herb,

I climbed up in the attic and found my grandpa's toolbox. It's not in too bad of shape but it is rough. The bottom is very rusty buy some vinegar will strip that real easy. Trying to think of what color to paint it now.

It has his initials engraved on one lid and his full name painted on the other. Which is in cursive. My grandmother most have wrote it because he never wrote in cursive. He used all caps printed. Which is what I use. HA.

20150204_193154 by bjohnson388, on Flickr

Still had some of his olds tools in there I forgot about. Some custom made wrenches which I assume where for tightening the distributor bolt hold down.

20150204_193206 by bjohnson388, on Flickr

Nasty bottom with some hefty dents in it. The reason I quit using it because everything got so nasty. I acquired it back when I was 18 when he passed and was not as inclined to fix stuff back then. Now that you jogged my memory I plan to give it a full restore.

That is indeed a fantastic tool box, and it is priceless now as it was your grandpa's. Looking at it, I would preserve the name and not paint it, just doing something to retard any rusting. These were very popular in the 30s to 50s as mechanic's boxes. As I posted, it was the box chosen for the US Army individual mechanic set.
Back a ways in my thread, I have shown tools and the hand made box from my Great Uncle Ed, and how I restored the box, and his tools. All this stuff was from 1920 - 1935.
I know how proud you must be to have your grand pa's tools and box. I am sure you will do a super job in preserving them, for his honor. I do thank you so much for sharing this with me!!!

Best Regards
Herb

After much research, I decided on a Rockwell BladeRunner saw. There are three distinct reasons for this:

1. This will support my "Flip a switch---Cut a board---24/7" program.
(Always ready for a cut--no muss or fuss)

2. Wife will use this a lot in her Crafts/Antiques/Picture Framing.

3. I am teaching my grandson woodworking when he comes over. We have already learned hand tools, and this will be a very safe and easy to use saw to introduce him to his first power tool. As he gains experience, I will teach him the Table Saw, Miter Saw, and Router. I will also take him fishing this summer.
Learning skills like this will save him from capture by the IPAD and other such time wasting items.

The Rockwell Blade Runner is not a bad saw at all. I like the little Fence/Miter set up, it has a speed control, blade drawer, cord winder, and other handy accessories. It also has a wall mount but I will not yet use it.
While it is not a highly precision tool, it does ok for what I want. I am happy with it so far. It came with a 3 year warranty.
As we used to say it is not perfect, but it is "Close enough for Government Work"! LOL

There will also be a 1 Inch belt/disc sander on that bench to support the saw, and it will have the small drill press and a Craftsman mini plunge router.
I will top that bench with the 3/4 T&G Oak, and wife will use the drawers for all of her crafting and paints and such.

Best Regards
Herb Spencer

Best wishes on your wife's recovery. Am way behind following all my favorites as I came down with the flu and pneumonia at the beginning of last week. Just getting back to normal and I have plenty to keep me busy here on GJ. Neat old tool box find, Herb.

So far the Blade Runner is working good for me. I am going to use it to top the bench with T&G oak. If it chews through that it will be a worthwhile tool.

So sorry to hear you have been ill. Hopefully it has passed you by now. I got pretty sick the day of my flu shot and had to get an antibiotic to get over it.
I hope to get the toolbox cleaned painted and filled this weekend. I will paint it gloss OD green and stencil USA and two stars in gloss white. 1950s style.

Great to hear from you and best regards

The next tool for the craft bench is the Grizzley 1 in belt/disc sander. It will support sanding the cutoffs from the Blade Runner and I will sharpen tools with it.
We will also have a mini Craftsman Plunge Router on the bench. I will top the bench using the 3/4 Oak T&G.
The belt/disc sander came packed well, and only took a little assembly. It runs smooth and true. Researching, the only other option would have been the Jet 1" belt/disc which was over $400.00, but this should do what we need it to do. On both tools dust collection is going to work well with a small shop vac.

ps: I am still impressed with the Rockwell Blade Runner!

Best Regards
Herb Spencer
