Yup, they NEVER go for less than 450ish...that is a damn good deal. I'd be checking that store often with prices like that!

Not even in the same league...

Maybe HF league, rather spend a tad more on the OTC myself.

Did you see where it said it could carry the load of a fully loaded semi truck without failing? That's where I stopped reading!

I just used the Harbor Freight (Maddox) ball joint press kit with my impact wrench to remove both the left and right side ball joints on a Kia Sorento and had absolutely no problems with it. I think I paid around $70 for it.

Having said that, I'll admit I don't do this for a living and who knows how long it will be until I have to do ball joints again. I've never had anything else to compare this Maddox kit to. I'm sure the SO kit is awesome - but can someone tell me what the difference is?

The BJP1 is one of the few Snap On shining stars whose price is justified because of that much better real world quality and useability compared to absolutely everything else out there. It has been called the absolute best press many times by many people for good reason. I have about equal time between between a NAPA branded OTC unit and the BJP1.

There is a difference and finally it is worth the price difference.

So I watch the video above and I am impressed. Also watched a man with the same set working on a F150.He payed $650 for his BJ1. Well, I have better things to do with my monies. My Astro kit has worked perfectly for a fraction of the cost. Yes the BJ1 does have some great features, but for the price it's not worth it. JMHO.

If you do it every week it’s worth it. I don’t really care how much something costs when it has a return on investment

For a guy that changes a set of ball joints once every 4 years, no it’s orobably not worth it

Yep, wouldn't be hard for the OP to instantly double his money if he sold it on CL. I was thrilled enough to find one delivered to my door from Ebay for $425. I figured if I decided I needed the money bad enough I could turn around and make $100 profit pretty easily. I think I'll hold onto mine though.

As for the OP - if your kit is missing any retaining clips, or the ball bearing, or your instruction booklet is a little tattered they are easy to order from Snapon.com.

As a shade tree mechanic I'm not replacing ball joints every day, weekly or monthly. Having to choose between paying for someone else's labor or investing in a good tool by which I can do the job myself, I have always chosen to buy the tool. The next job where the tool is needed adds to the value and the satisfaction.

I have the Astro 7897 master set I bought since I couldn't locate a SO driver that comes to my work as the previous driver was in the process of selling his dealership and retiring. I went on Ebay but after the seller cancelled my BUY IT NOW I decided on a new on. After a new driver came on board that was the first tool I bought from him along with a box. The Astro is getting worn after replacing about 6 ball joints but the SO is still pristine and I don't use an impact on the forcing screw.

What I just found out while doing ball joints yesterday is that my Matco BJ press is actually made by OTC. It actually has a Matco sticker on one side and an OTC on the other. It's held up very well to non-impact use, but I may have to start looking at the Snap on BJP1 so that I can use an impact.

Best ball joint press I have ever owned. I got mine for about 450 shipped to my door step from TX, so for 200 that is a smoking good deal.

I agree there is nothing like a snapon ball joint press! Had one at work liked it so much had to get one at home to replace the otc one. I think I found mine for like 250 on the other side of the country! Was talking to my father the next day and he was like phone your uncle I think he's working around there right now ( he travels all over North America for his job) and turned out he was about 15 min from the guy so he went and picked it up for me and even got the guy down to 200 I think and ended in buying a bunch of tools for himself. I have used mine for removing frozen king pins on my 65f100 and pressing out wheel bearings on a Ford Escape and all sorts of random things that are not possible with a Normal ball joint press.
