I don't really want to even get into this whole thing but with that said I would like to TRY to make a point or two I have yet to see addressed... Maybe it has... I often see people bash on those going to G sales, ebay, CL, etc for getting tools used then wanted warranty service if and when they fail... Now before I go any further I don't agree with buying something used or whatever and breaking it just to get a new whatever... It's a tool... Use it and take care of it until it breaks... But I do think that if a company makes it they should back it... Just because it changes hands they get out of any and all responsibility backing it? Good deal for them... Let me try to get back on track a bit... What I see a lot is the guy that had to pay full price making payments for years and years for let's say $50,000 worth of tools/box so it's no surprise that he bashing on the thrifty guy that got everything he did for less than $10,000... Like it's not fair so they cry about it... It's like some forget the point of tools... To make, build, fix, repair, etc... It also brings me to another point... If there isn't a warranty for 2nd, 3rd etc owners then the reseal value should drop... No warranty=buy and replace... You're on your own! Why would I pay 80% of retail price for a used tool just to get screwed if it fails... I'm sure some will disagree and maybe want to "set me straight"...

You could say they are your father's or uncles, and your doing it for them. They will usually accept anything without proof of purchas .

Sure there are many "work arounds" but there shouldn't have to be... Heck someone was the original purchaser at one point... And said person is still the original purchaser... Your just storing, using and warrantying it for him... LOL

I have always felt that the warranty was built into the price ( it has to be for it to remain profitable for the company ) So regardless of how someone came to owns it, it should be warrantied. But thats just my own opinion.

It's not that I'm "resurrecting" a 3 year thread but rather 3 years ago it was early... The time is now... LOL... Plus this topic is always in need of discussion... And we must hold companies feet to the fire to stand behind what they make...

Coming from a guy that hasn't spent more than $250 on a tool truck in five years and yes I own tons of snap on just not off the truck. I've never had an issue with warranties the drivers here are decent and don't question me and Snap-On customer service has alway been extremely helpful. I don't see what the big issue if you show respect you will get it in return.

And not abusing my tools means less warranty claims
No cheater pipes here

Yeah I never have a problem and always take care of my stuff too... ANd in the rare chance I have to get something warrantied I don't have a problem dealing with SO CS... But the local guy around here has sold me tools but because I don't work at a shop anymore he told me that he can't warranty anything for "people of the street"...So he doesn't have to back the NEW tools he sold me... I told SO CS about the problem but didn't really throw him under the bus or anything and they have helped with any problem since... BUT I don't like their fine print and it worries me if I ever have a problem and they feel like not backing it they could... I'm not putting tools in vises just to get new shinny stuff but on the other hand if I have a problem I want them to stand behind it... But it's always the fine print that can bite you...

Totally agreed snap on CS isn't bad at all always friendly and helpful

But your local dealer sounds like a ****. He's got some balls saying **** like that on stuff you purchase from him

My guy has never question me and all I've bought is a 1/2 impact swivel and a few prybars

We should start a Snap on Dealer Hall of Shame

We should start a Snap on Dealer Hall of Shame

More so a Snap-On User Hall of Shame

A capitalist free enterprise system is built on people working for value and then purchasing what they need or want. However even in nature we see individuals that don't want to to do the work yet want all they can get. A family of sparrows may have some chicks that get up and leave the nest to explore the world and start making it on their own while other chicks remain in the nest squeaking and crying for more handouts with their mouths a gap until there mother literally has to kick them out of the nest.
A nation of people who go out and earn their way and buy what they need or want creates a strong nation whereas a nation full of people who stammer and cry for handouts while never working themselves to pay full price makes for a weak nation.

I don't know about everyone else on this forum but I've never been given a Snap-On warranty from Snap-on. They've never emailed it to me, sent it via mail or even offered it to me over the phone. The only way I've seen it given out by snap-on is if you're their customer and buy a tool from them. Then they give YOU a warranty with it.

Just because you came into possession of a broken tool that should be warranted and you figure someone at one time did the work and paid the price to get a warranty how do you know it wasn't already warranted. Snap-On doesn't always ask good customers to return the broken tools so it's quite conceivable they could make it back in the used tool trade through various ways.

In this day and age if you pay retail for anything your fool
I understand that people will always abuse this policy you will never eliminate it

If you call snap on CS and tell them you would like to file a warranty claim only takes about 10min very simple process You can't expect service without asking for it

But the fact is

Once that money leaves your pocket it's gone Some people just know how to get more for there dollar. If we both by ratchets and I get mine for 50% I can buy a second tool and guess what same great quality and I get a larger quantity of tools in the long run

that's just not so common sense

Oh and I don't buy any broken tools not my game
I buy quality used items. To each there own
