Hello I recently purchashed a older snap on ya642 jack 2 ton model off craigslist for 35 dollars. The main issue i have noticed with it .the jack leaks oil out of the main nut that holds the hydraulic cylinder in place.I was curious what I need to do to remedy this issue.
did you recently get this one from Chicago CL? I was trying to get ahold of the seller myself on that one. I tried 3 times and had my E mail "returned" as "undeliverable" each time.
I looked at their E mail address as posted and its like they "forgot" part of the E mail.
that's OK, I don't really "need" another jack right now, as I just got one of those very same jacks the week before off of CL/coincidentally I had to go to Indiana to get it. I pd $60 for this one and it works fine.
it was just missing 1 piece. (the piece that's pinned to the handle to turn the release valve) but I have 2 "extra" handles at the house anyway.
that takes me up to 3 working floor jacks here, but for $35 it was hard to pass up the one (I think) that you got, even needing repair; seeing how it is $400 from S/O these days.
and today's YA 642 is listed at that $400 tag as being imported from China on the S/O website, no thanks. Good save.
getting stuff used, seems the only way to get good US made goods any more... you got a good deal, especially if you can do the rebuild yourself.
for what the rebuild kit costs you'll have a solid jack for under $100. way better than you can get new these days for that kind of money... and some more expensive that arent as good. Rebuild that jack and itll outlast several available "new-today"
