This week's update. Plumber never showed. Gonna be on the builder Monday and push hard for that to be done next week. The electrician didn't show either and has a few odds and ends to fix (light switches not in the proper order in the 5 gang panels for example).

They did clean up the silt fence and put sod in this week. All that's really left on the outside is the landscaping.

Fantastic build, Speedy! Curious though, what is the white square thing centered in this pic?

If you mean the small square that is the garage door light that came with the Liftmaster 3800 jackshaft opener. Wireless control which I did not even realize but pretty slick. I have two LED bulbs in it that are 100W equivalents due to the high ceilings. Provides plenty of light to park.

Completed my first, although small, car project in the new shop last night. It's SO nice to actually have room to work without stepping around jack stands, jacks, tool boxes, etc.

Replaced the rear pinion bushing on the Challenger. 600RWHP, drag radials on the street, and 100 plus passes at the strip took their toll on that poor rubber bushing LOL

Updates will start winding down I guess. We are almost finished. This week the plumbing was completed for the most part, and the punch list was started. Table/Sink combo scheduled for delivery in the morning.

Toilet installed with grinder pump. The builder offered to build a small wall around the grinder pump and lines to hide them, but I figured that was just more **** to tear down if there were ever a problem, so I just told them to leave it as is. Not like I'm gonna be staring at the bathroom all day.

Sink connections stubbed out:

speedysgarage_30_81_web.jpg

Wall faucet installed. This has garden hose thread so I can connect up a hose to wash cars or whatever.

speedysgarage_30_83_web.jpg

After four trips!!! the electricians finally got my switches right. Some light up when off so I can find them in the dark, and others (like the compressor power switch) light up when on so I know if I forgot to turn them off when leaving the shop.

Next up - Sink delivery, punch list completion, and final landscaping.

Shop has turned out freakin' awesome!!!

I look forward to seeing yours when you start moving tools and equipment in. I remember when I first built mine and could see a lot of wall space, even the stripe I painted around it. Now 20 years later, I don't have a single square foot of floor space to spare. They fill up fast.

Mike.

Thanks guys.

zmotorsports - yeah I expect this will fill up over time but I"m "trying" to be intelligent about cabinet, shelf, and storage over all placement. My wife got me some Kobalt steel cabinets for Christmas when they were on fire sale at Lowes, so two of those 30" x 72" ones are ready to go in as well as one of the ones that hangs on the wall. I'll be getting an 18 drawer 72" tool chest from Harbor Freight as soon as they hit that magic $999 number again. Wife also got me a nice gift card to use toward that for Christmas :)

Compressor will be after those items are setup and finally the Bendpak lift probably late summer once I recover from all this!

Well, a few things to report on but no pictures as of yet. Stainless steel sink has been delivered and is setup. Plumber came out to hook it up and wasn't sure what to do when the faucet we had picked out didn't fit. $9 hole saw and 30 minutes of my time and that is all resolved. Wonder what the builder will discount for me doing my own plumbing :eyecrazy:

Landscaping is 95% complete and turned out better than I even expected. They have a few finishing touches and I'm open to suggestions. It's Indiana pea gravel with 22x22 pavers for steps. I'm curious what they can use to "box" in the gravel? They just left it kind of unfinished on the edges and I told the builder that wasn't acceptable and to figure out some type of edging.

They haven't really done much of anything in 2 or 3 weeks. The builder has done a phenomenal job but is taking forever. This has been going since May 2015 I believe. This same builder built my whole house in 3 months. :headscrat

Oh well, I've barely paid them a dime and am now able to use the garage so if they want to take their time, fine by me

Harbor Freight 72" tool box ordered, should be here Thursday.

Well, it's here and in perfect shape. Well packaged is an understatement. Now I have to figure out how to get 526 pounds of tool box off the shipping pallet.

My Dad came by with some of those carrying straps you put your forearms through. We removed the drawers and were able to lighten it enough to lift it off the pallet and a buddy pushed the pallet out of the way so we could set the box down on it's casters. This thing is built like a tank. I need to go through it when I have some time and will post pics when I clean up the garage.

Keep the weight in mind if you decide to pick one of these boxes up yourself. I saved $100 on shipping, but it was some work to get it unloaded.

Low voltage guy came today and finished. Alarm guy is here now hooking all of that up. Now if the builder would just finish the punch list it's done LOL

You mean the drawer locks being on one side? My other boxes don't have drawer locks at all so it's an upgrade to me LOL

It's just a big red tank of a tool box covered in a plastic bag right now LOL Casters are huge and rolled easily off the trailer ramps. Wheel locks are very firm but require more force than I would expect to "unlock" them when you lift up on the lever with your toe. Drawers slide smooth but I need to play with it more to give a full review. For $1099 I don't think you can beat it though. I had a coupon for that price.

When you open the drawer all the way out how is the play side to side and also what about the top drawer does it have a brace through the middle under it for the weight of sockets

Side to side movement is minimal. The larger drawers have double rails.

The big top drawer has a center brace.

Great job! I look forward to following your progress as it continues.

Thanks!

Finally something to update. Builder came back after 3 weeks of inactivity to hit the punch list and knocked out all but 2 small things. I figured they'd be wanting to get paid sooner or later and I told them not to expect payment until they were complete.

Balance sheet was to the penny what I expected, except for the electrical items. The electricians added $180 for the stainless steel switch plate cover. I told the builder, "nope". Electricians told the builder some of the plates were $30 each, to which I sent the builder links to the same at HD for $4 - $6. He's now going back to them :)

Now I've started moving in, and having all the space is just awesome.

Industrial stainless work table and sink. Got this from webstrauntstore.com for a good price, good customer service, and nice delivery.

Monitored house alarm was extended to include the garage with sensors on the door, windows, and over head door as well. It's zoned separate from the house so I can arm or disarm independently, and can check status from the main panel in the house.

speedysgarage_30_89_web.jpg

This was the solution for the area between the house and garage. This allows for water run off without issues, and no concrete to crack and bust between the structures. The pavers I got from a local liquidator for $4 each, a steal compared to the box stores.

speedysgarage_30_90_web.jpg

Pea gravel is "Indiana pea gravel" which has tans and greys which go nice with the brick and charcoal mortar. Cheap stuff as well.

speedysgarage_30_91_web.jpg

Finally, a shot of the tool box that was requested. I'm going to start organizing it now and, being OCD, will probably drive myself nuts doing so LOL I took this particular box in account when placing the window and plugs on either side.

Next up is putting together the Kobalt cabinets and getting things organized. The weather is weird in my area this time of year. It'll go from 20 to 70 in a couple days. While moving in the floor started to sweat since it's humid and 70 today. I closed the door, flipped on the mini split to de-humidify and in 30 minutes totally dry. That was a great upgrade.

Thanks. Really happy with the floor. It's super durable.

Only side effect I've seen is it sweating a bit when the temp changes. The concrete obviously holds the colder temp longer than the air in the garage, so it sweats a little. Not sure how to prevent that other than running the mini split all the time, which I probably won't do.

Any body got any good suggestions for a wall mount for things like broom, mop, etc? I've found a couple but they seem kinda cheap so I'm curious what you guys have found and used.

My floors do it too. Not much you can do other then run your air handler.

US General makes great tool boxes. I got mine and there was a small cosmetic defect and they knocked a huge amount off the price, and it was already on a great sale. My only complaint on mine is that the top lid will slam down if you don't watch it, which knocks the paint off...not a huge deal since mine's stored in the garage and I am not worried about rust, but annoying if I forget and let it slam shut.

I think Gladiator makes some stuff for that. I have not purchased anything like that actually...it seems like every thing I've seen has had mixed reviews...mostly bad, so I've steered clear. I like Gladiator stuff but most of it is super over priced. Which is why I have only bought their stuff at a tremendous discount on sale.

Been organizing and putting together my Kobalt cabinets this week. I'll do a mini video review of some of this stuff. The Kobalt cabinets are pretty beefy and very easy to assemble. The finish is freaking tough. If you wait till black Friday or other sales at Lowes you can get these for a song. I'm talking like 60% off retail price.

Well, a snag. Seems this fancy smancy Liftmaster 8500 garage door opener has some new tech in it that isn't backward compatible with the HomeLink system in any of my cars. So I called Liftmaster and for the low low price of $36.99 they'll sell me a Homelink Bridge Kit to solve the problem. To add insult to injury, had I known this last week it would have been free, but the free offer has expired.

I complained and had one rep hang up on me, and called back and had another tell me it was in stone and that I had to buy it if I wanted it to work with the car's Homelink systems and blamed Homelink for not making their technology "forward compatible". I asked the guy "did you just hear what you said, who in the world can design forward compatibility in to a product?"

Keep this in mind when shopping Liftmaster. Still checking other options.

Called back and got a different, and very helpful rep. She is sending me the needed parts to fix the Homelink issue and even told me to call her when it came time to program to insure I had no issues.

Your probably the third or 4th person that I know of having that problem.

I wasted an afternoon trying to program all 4 of my cars - and none of them worked. Looked on here and saw I needed the adapter - so stupid!
