I though my little collection of Bonney was finished, the place that I was finding the NOS has been bare of the brand for over half a year but today found a perfect condition 1173 1 1/4 combination.
I talked to the guys to see if they expected any more stuff in general, and no, they said they had almost cleared out the section of the warehouse. So this one might surely be the last to be added.
There were about 30-40 large Allen branded, but that quantity was over only 3 sizes.

I do not know but it is a heavy son of a gun. In fact that box was uncomfortable carrying it any distance. I got it and had to carry it a 1/4 mile to my pickup and I sure was feeling the weight after about 100 feet.

Crept through same vendor’s stuff I bought from last week. The hammers are more beat up than I’d like, but I rarely see them. The PH20 has had the studs ground off (should be soft-face, and the rip hammer’s face looks like it was used to beat on an anvil rather than pound nails.
The rest is cool, but not spectacular. I grabbed the C38 prybar first. Guy says it all came from one collector and there will be more as the season progresses and he sells down.

Some stuff I didn’t buy (pockets only so deep).
Two spectacular pouches - DOEs from the Triangle era; single-hex line wrenches from M|H era? Or would they be later?
Nice packer slip in the line wrench box, too.
Two 2561s, FX / June1946 MADE IN USA and AY(I think) / January1947 USA. If that’s right, the change to “USA” is after June1946 and before January1947. Maybe someone else has already figured the exact month.
And an interesting ratchet. TT 707-H. Hmm. Not the ultra-fine teeth like the 707s I have. :dunno:

Yeah I collect the triangle era mainly and unfortunately I never cared for the DOE wrenches as they had tendency to slip off. Never cared for them as I always found a alternative method (vise grips) to get a hard to reach fasteners off. The tubing/line wrenches are actually better IMO then any other tubing/flare wrench and even through I don’t need them as I have a full set of the flares I still grab them.

I've never owned any of Bonney's non-Loc Rite flare wrenches (i.e. 6 points). Their 12 pointers have always done it for me. But I wouldn't pass up a NOS set like that.

I worked in QTown for 3 years, hit up the mart almost every other saturday during that time too. I actually hit up Englishtown last weekend, but don't get out often enough anymore.

They would look a lot like these 3/8dr examples, but (obviously) smaller. The model numbers for 1/4dr would be V707 and VV707. I have not seen them on eBay, though an A707 recently sold there.
Interestingly, I do not immediately see how to disassemble the T707 or A707. The TT707 and AA707 have a spiral clip, but I see nothing similar on these guys. I think the internals must be identical - they certainly sound the same, but I don’t see how to open the older, Outlined-style x707s. Possibly just the press-fitted back holds it all together?

Do you find any value in a nice clean A701? This guy at the swap had one and he'll probably still have it next week, price is typically $8-10. He also has one of these odd balls in nice condition:

PWA1471 Bonney crowfoot 9/16.. Odd one. has a offset slots on one side, so you can move the drive tool off 90 degrees.
I do not collect Bonney, its a piece that came in with the ride.

PWA tool for removing/replacing starters and generators from the back of the engine. The mounting flange bolt circle is smaller than the outside diameter of the starter or generator. This tool allows the use of an extension to reach the mounting nuts. The crowfoot can be flipped to reverse the offset angle of the opening.

I believe P&W chose an open-end rather than a box-end design because there is not enough room in the starter/generator design to get the box-end repositioned as the nut is unscrewed. I made special box-ends to do the initial loosening and final tightening of these nuts.

I bought my A701 just for the looks, since the shank matches the Streamline wrenches so well. Just trying to get one example each of the ratchet generations. The hinged head rat is cool, but I’d only snag one at at an opportunistic price. I have T-703K, but nothing else driving a perception of having a “hole” to fill.
I guess bottom line, shipping is really dissuading me from nonlocal purchases lately. I did a lot of eBuying over the winter (no fleas), and sort of think I’d rather have that cash available now for the new flea and garage sale season.

I don't think it's happy in Florida. I think it wants to take another ride up I-95 to NJ! :)

Speaking of Bonney-made PWA sockets... Somehow I have managed to collect two (2) Bonney PWA-1393 12-point box end offsets (3/8-inch drive), from two different production generations! The older one has a pre-war painted finish and a pre-war Bonney B-triangle logo, the newer one has a WWII type marking. It's an interesting study. These were used for cylinder base nuts.

Apropos of nothing, after Lugz made a dawn raid on “my” flea market, Sunday (documented on the Garage Sale thread, here and here), I stopped by on my way toward Philly, to assess the devastation. I poked around in the dollar bins and found a dozen or so apparently fire-scortched plain steel 3/8dr 12pt sockets, all the same size (might have been 7/16). I didn’t buy them, being unable to think of any use for them at the time. Been turning it over in my head, and now I think they could be used for checkers (or draughts, for our British mates). Guess I’ll have to look for some Proto ones for the opposing side. Only problem is, I’m terrible at checkers.

I never had a Bonney 12 point Loc-Rite flare wrench until the last year or so. I DO HAVE the 6 point Bonney Flares in both metric and SAE and they have been awesome flare wrenches that I bought with my original setup in the early 1980's. Both strong and great flare wrenches. I acquired a old military set (they have a FSN on the roller bag) of SAE 12 points and they have been great wrenches in their own right but the old military wrenches has a flare end and box end on the opposite end and it is kind of a waste with that design as once a flare nut is loosen you actually need a open end to get the nut off. Kind of a question mark why the government would order a wrench with this design.

In other news I acquires a new socket off eBay and it arrived the other day. It is a MALH30 a 30MM 1/2" drive deep socket. It is only the 2nd 1/2 drive metric socket I have ever had from Bonney. I never ordered the 1/2" metrics when I originally bought my set as I got the 3/8" and 1/4" metrics and they did everything I ever needed.

By the way, I stumbled across the Loc-Rite's a few years ago, but in Kelsey-Hayes brand. Great line wrenches and don't try to round off the nuts. I've put together a set from garage sales and one purchased off Ebay.

Got a old 1041 double open wrench today 1-7/16" X 1-5/8". This thing is a big wrench and heavy also.

Something unusual on eBay - a wood 2-drawer machinist box with a “Bonney Vise & Tool Works / Allentown - Philadelphia” plate under the lid. Seller says it’s oak, but it looks more like chestnut. Nice ornate handles all around. Horizontal shrinkage crack along the back. Looks like the rod/mechanism that locks the drawers when the lid is down has been removed, though the staples in back of the drawers are still there.
If they ever sold any such thing, you’d think it would be in the 1914 catalog, but it’s not. Assuming the plate is original to the box (and maybe even if it isn’t), I suppose this is actually something used at the manufacturing sites in the teens. The plate does make me think it can’t be a one-off, but it can’t have many siblings, either.
I think the asking price is more than I’d offer, but if I had the cash to make a reasonable offer, I’d be bragging about owning it by now.

Strangely, the seller doesn't appear to be either advertising or pricing it based on the name on the brass data plate (which he misread as "Dooney Vise & Tool Works", anyway). I know they maintained an office on Girard after the move to A-town, but would they put both addresses on a brass tag on an in-house shop box? And does that tag look vintage to you? Not to doubt the authenticity, but it doesn't look like it matches the age of the box. It looks modern to me. Much more modern than the box anyway. I could be wrong, but I would've expected embossed or engraved. If legit, that would be a nice place to store ones early Bonney! A bit too steep for me right now, too, though. What do you want to wager it will be in Todd's shop by the end of the week? :)

I'm not a box expert, but something about that machinist box is off. I can't place it, but something just ain't right. Almost as if it was distressed to look vintage? The crack on the back looks like something that would happen to century-old wood, but the edgework looks more modern.

And you're right - that name badge looks different.

I could be all wrong but there's no way I'd drop two and a quarter on it.

That box could have been used 'in-house'. I'm not that savvy on cabinets that old, so I won't comment on its authenticity. But, Birchrunville PA (where the box is located) appears to be only an hours drive from Allentown...

.....

Box looks like Jennings, who made Chestnut, Oak, and Walnut.
Tag looks authentic. Have some Kraeuter tags of the same era and seem to be same construction.
Box and tag both pre-WWI.

Most likely a Bonney employee.
Pretty nice find for the right person.
(Got 4 such boxes already and needing to downsize, or I'd be all over it.)

Not a Bonney person but need to do some spring cleaning. Just keep picking them up when they are cheap and now I have too many. Does anyone need to fill some holes in there sets or want to start a collection? Have a quite a bit of CV stuff. Always looking to trade for Plombs. Send me a PM if you are interested in any of it. Alright, took me a few years, but I think I got a set! Gonna need to get a new wrench rack for this one too.

I also have this 1158A and 1159A, I believe there’s a whole other A set, but the 1158A is 6 point while the other is 12, what’s the rest of the A set? And why is the 1159A a different size from the regular 1159?

Also, I know the catalog page on these has been posted, can someone repost it? I lost it when my computer crashed a year or two ago.
