When you guys get serious about bolt/screw storage, maybe you can step up and get the real storage systems like I used to have. :lol_hitti

Re: Storeing Nuts and Bolts ?

You're like me, a lot can change in 6 years!

yea, more tools, equipment, and moved that big box home from work.
i had it on the other side of the garage, and it was really in the way of other storage.

been slowly cleaning and reorganizing.

i have 4 or 5 more drawers that i'll probably build another rack for, (i have some more plywood leftovers from a bathroom remodel) and utilize the wasted space on the bench next to the toolbox.

seems like the torture never stops.:eyecrazy:

Saw this thread yesterday and thought good timing! I bought these blue drawer units at an auction about 3 week ago. Then last week I saw the tan ones on a local website for free. So, for the last couple of days I have been sanding and painting the tan ones so they are now grey. The blue drawer units are pretty nice so I won't have to paint them. I think Elvira approves.

A local electronics store bought out another store a few months back and once they were done cataloging all the stuff they got, they sold all of the old Equipto Card file cabinets that the parts arrived in. I was able to snag 6 of them that were in decent condition. They aren't all the same color, but that's an issue for another day. I bolted them together, and then bolted the whole assembly to the side of one of my pallet racks. And now I have almost 7 feet of parts storage. Most of the drawers had dividers in them already, so I can subdivide the drawers down any way I need to or just leave them open for larger items. (Heavy stuff low, lighter stuff up top.) I don't use these for strictly "nut and bolt" storage. Its more general storage. I do use some of the drawers for large nuts and bolts though.

I also got my hands on some dry erase vinyl and cut tags for each drawer. I use a Wet Erase marker to label the drawers, so if I need to change the labels, I just take a damp rag and wipe it down. Its not pretty, but its got a ton of space and its really flexible for all sorts of parts.

Here's my latest/greatest solution. I've been using it now for half a year and I don't think I'll be changing any time soon. This is perfect for me. I have a few drawers not used so there is some room to grow but more than anything, I've gotten really good at assessing materials for their future usefulness.

I do have a small cabinet up in the attic for boxes of nails and such. Again, stuff I will use. I have a lot of SAE bolts/nuts and I'd like to stock up on some metric when a good deal presents itself.
