Scary looking creature :wtf: I hope that encounter with that creature was friendly.

That's a really spacious storage, everybody should have something like that...

Yes he was a friendly one, offered me some candy:lol:

Thank's Mikkeli:thumbup: There's never enough storage space.. I had to make a special hole in the wood pile for the light switch:lol_hitti

I have build several houses for the customers and almost every time I've looked the plans and there's no place for firewood storage. That's good to have here in north:thumbup:

Hi Don! Yes the Mirka autonet or abranet is a great product:thumbup: It's nice to sand without the dust and the shop and lungs stays cleaner.
You are super productive man Don so 700$ worth of sandpaper makes sence:beer:

Nice work on those Hex and Torx stands! I may have to try my hand at them. I also really like the swiveling stool. This is the problem with Garage Journal, every time I read a great thread like this, I get two or three new projects to try out for myself!

Thanks Unruh:thumbup: Those stands have proved to be very handy. They are nice to pick on the "worksite" when needed.
Swiveling stool is nice too, it's out of the way when needed and all the cords, airhoses and cables stays safe under it:thumbup:

Yes I feel you, tons of ideas and inspiration on this forum:beer:

Wow T-handle, super job on the whole shop! I really like your style, everything cleaned-up and organized. Love that electrical chase you installed on your workbench, it really incorporated there nicely.
Looking forward to more updates, hope your back is on the mend.

Thanks Jay:thumbup:

My back has been great for many weeks. I'm wearing a kidney belt a lot, it helps when the weather is cold.
I have been working in the shop and updates are coming:beer:

I went through some hammers and mounted them on to the welding cabinet.

user380465_pic98077_1572532746%20%282%29-L.jpg

I washed them with hot water/soap and when they dried handles came loose. I made couple new wedges and glued all the handles with epoxy.

Then I sanded all the handles clean and sprayed tree layers of satin varnish on them.

user380465_pic98078_1572532746%20%282%29-L.jpg

Then I refaced the faces with belt sander, polished and painted the heads.

user380465_pic98079_1572532746%20%282%29-L.jpg

I mounted a pegboard on to the welding cabinet. Covered all the holes too that someone had drilled on to the cabinet. Two stones with one bird:lol:

I also cleaned my shop brush and mounted it here, so I can clean the things I'm hitting. Not so much dings on the hammer faces:thumbup:

Looks nice and now they are ready for work.

Have a great week everybody. Couple days to weekend:beer:

Thanks Ronin22! Yes those turn out nice. I use them a lot but sometimes they deserve some love:lol:

And now the "U can't touch this" tune is playing in my head all night:lol::lol:

That looks great! I have been slowly cleaning up some of my hammers but they hide in drawers so I don't get that warm feeling as often.

Thanks Bob! Yes you said it perfect, it's the nice warm feeling when you come to the workshop and use your fixed tools. Brings a smile in your face

Hi everybody!

I made a fast and cheap door for my garage when I build it 8 years ago. I've been dreaming of a thick lift door or a folding door. My door opening size is 3x3 meters (10x10ft) so there's no ready standard model for it. Normal Finish garage door size is 2.1x2.4meters.

So it's going to be a special order door, that means more money. I did some searching and the door will cost about 1000€ to 2000€ depending about windows, electric opener etc.

Only problem is that all the commercial doors is about 40mm thick. I can buy a 70mm thick folding doors but that's 3500€

My temporary (8years) doors have 70mm of hard foam in them and the overall thickness is 110mm. (over 4 inches) and they are very warm when the weather gets cold. Only problem is the weather strips. They hold about 3 years and then they start to separate from the wood.

I was about to order a lift door but then I started thinking, what if instead ordering a new expensive door I use a little bit time and money for the old doors:thumbup:

First I removed all the old weather strips. I removed also the old foam between the frame and the door frame. Then I adjusted the door straight with laser. I used wedges and 6,5x110mm corrseal bolts about 50cm spacing.
Now it's solid as it can be and hopefully it doesn't move with weather humidity.

I sprayed the caps with winter PU-foam.

20191118_191604%20%282%29-L.jpg

Then I sanded and painted the doors from inside. Doors were painted with water based latex paint inside and they were impossible to clean. Now I used a urethane alkyd paint so it's water resistant.

20191118_191540%20%282%29-L.jpg

20191119_202957%20%283%29-L.jpg

The color is same that my moldings. I painted two thin layers.

I figured that if I make a sheet metal covers for the door frames the weather strips will stick better.

First I made a kick panel inside. I mounted all the metal parts with high tack glue and screws.

20191121_154751%20%282%29-L.jpg

20191121_154826%20%282%29-L.jpg

Here is the side parts with seals glued on them, I cleaned the metal with acetone and the seals sticks very nice.

20191121_172814%20%282%29-L.jpg

Here is the upper seal lip. There's one inside and one outside. Now every side has a double seal:thumbup:
I used EPDM D-profile seal. The thickness is about 7mm and it works for 3mm to 6mm caps.

For the doorstep I made a aluminum cover, there's a 70mm foam under the cover that separates the outer concrete from the garage floor.
There's a 20mm lip on the aluminum cover and the door seal stops to that.

20191126_202118%20%282%29-L.jpg

For the outside I installed a rubber wiper so there's a double seal too. That's usually a difficult place to seal.

user380465_pic99250_1576327375%20%282%29-L.jpg

I made a 2-point latch for the door. It can be only opened inside so no lock needed. Little more exercise to open the doors, but I have a carport for the cars so this door stays pretty much closed. Project cars only:lol:

20191126_202150%20%282%29-L.jpg

I saved the latch handle from some old door. I made the rods and the rod holders from hydraulic pipe holders. I made the long handles from a old snow barrier pipe and some pipe holders:lol: I also installed the things that keeps doors open on a windy day.

20191126_202019%20%282%29-L.jpg

20191126_202118%20%282%29-L.jpg

Here's the upper latch. I made the rod ends pointy so it closes like a fridge door with a little "hisss" sound

20191214_124214%20%283%29-L.jpg

Here is what it looks outside, It matches the garage nice. I'm going to paint it next summer and I've been planning a little overhang with lights.

I had the hinges inside the door frame and the door but they were always loose so I bolted them from the outside with longer bolts. I have to paint those also.

20191214_124930%20%283%29-L.jpg

I've been monitoring the door temperature with infrared thermometer and the new weather strips works great. Temperature in the garage went three degrees (celsius) up after the door was ready:thumbup:
I think it looks okay now too:thumbup:

Have a great weekend everybody!

Restored four more hammers. These are some old bodywork hammers, Snap-on Blue point planishing hammer, Snap-on Blue point shrinking hammer and two Elora pumbing hammers from West-Germany. I bought these from yard sale, three euros a piece:thumbup:

Removed the rust with wire wheel.

20191220_135640%20%282%29-L.jpg

Sanded and polished the heads.

20191220_172249%20%282%29-L.jpg

Painted the heads with Maston Hammer paint. Boy it was hard to paint. I did three layers but you can still see true the paint few places.

20191222_161541%20%282%29-L.jpg

Made new oak handles, I salvaged some old oak counter tops. Good material for small jobs like this.

20191222_162911%20%282%29-L.jpg

20191222_184804%20%282%29-L.jpg

Mounted the handles with epoxy and wedges. Handles have wax finish so they stay in hand when hammering:lol:

Thank You and Merry Christmas:thumbup:

This kind of tool **** should be illegal!

Thank you Ronin22:thumbup: NoNo It's (almost) the best **** there is:lol:

Four tools brought back to life - priceless! Video is great as well.

Thank you Bob:thumbup: Love those old tools, I hope that the Snap-on handles were better condition to save. Video was super fun to do. Only problem is my old computer. It crashes about 50 times when I was editing the video. I guess I have to update that before the next video:lol:

Nice job on those hammers!

Thank you Sir:thumbup:

Happy New Year, T-handle!

Just got into your thread and I love all of the organization :) I need you to come here and help teach me

Beautiful work on those hammers, it makes it look like a much higher precision class of tool... I would feel like I was hitting something with a micrometer :D
