Prototyping today.

I had ideas for a multipurpose small work table which I could use. I found this other day someone tossed out.

It has a rotating table and height is adjustable. It's like a table for laptop or small TV tray. I was out today it garage cleaning and decided to make a prototype table I was thinking of.

I started off with this which is old old dollie I had I cut up few times welding but together.

And married this to that and ended up with this. I added 2 places of scrap angle to hold the post.

I can use my small vises like I wanted.

I cut the original top down to fit the hole I had.

I need to get some plywood to make a new top but I'll try this out and see what changes need to be made or decide on a better design.

great little table, you need a clip on fan blowing a little air your way!

Thanks, I got 2 ceiling fans and a portable.

And this one is gonna be awesome.

I got a 1725 small motor to I plan to attach. Problem is the motor doesn't fit pattern on cage. We had many pedestal fans at work about same size / same motor speed that move a lot of air In the warehouse.

That table worked out perfect and such a good use for it!

Thanks, the tool caddy is great. 632e47c616935dff8c0dceb90bed83a5.jpg
Once I get the other bottom on the craftsman bench the 65 9 drawer bottom is going here with a matching welding cart to match. The hole at the end of the Craftsman bench is only place I have to build something. I only have 14 x 24 ( 36cmx 58cm ) to work with. I like the lift table idea along with vise useage plus maybe a toolbox. I know half a day of use and know lift table is one thing going into final project.

Looks like someone modified this for a pad lock but I'll weld up the holes repaint and use it to store something on my HF bench.

I also had BB over tonight. Long story is son was in little accident so his truck is waiting on parts so he's driving Lola ( Elantra ) I'm driving BB ( Ranger) and wife driving Marilyn ( Sport Trac). I decided to try something out. I always planed for 1 full size car and one mid size car but never tried 2 full size cars. I looked at Sport Trac parked and said it should fit...... REAL close but should. I backed BB in first using the garage door sensor to tell me when I'm clear.

I the pulled Marilyn in her normal spot and wow they both fit. Ok some things where moved.

So much for keeping door clear but fridge can still open. [emoji106]

Good thing this cart is light. So after I moved stuff and pulled cars in I have this.

The garage door sensor relocation works wonders. It's so tight that if you back to far you cant walk behind vehicles. BTW Sport Trac is long long truck. Its longer than the Ranger and also my Expedition I had. Who would think that? Well girls are In for the night and so am I Night all!

I finally found some time or motivation to find my bench today. Decided to finally start one of my carts. This cart is my welding cart and is going to hold my welder and O/A torches. Plans where to build it same size as the 9 drawer bottom roller and go between the HF bench and the generator.
cb388dc7f74c43eccc82de4d713a460a.jpg
I used bed frame.
fde4221f17b5ada5a7f92c589e046d4c.jpg
Originally I wanted to make top to match like this
11f7f29dd22183d5ba2a1ab06cd0841f.jpg
9a232a461d9d1f921257fb65d4d5a785.jpg
Unfortunately I tacked it and had issues with cold welds and damn thing fell apart. I realize I was using .30 flux verse .35 flux. I ended up grinding all my tacks down and redid it.
c12510d9e9a8538b490810c75ce5cc1e.jpg
I also raised top shelf cause it's tight fit from welding tanks to welder to top. Here's a idea of it in place.
059e85efbb7a21b6d0eb85e86cfe5fba.jpg
c22d3ba759934badd0a70ab5355b498e.jpg
I might cut that detail in once I get plywood cut for shelves cause I wanted match. I know one thing is I really miss having a welding table. What a PITA is was welding on floor and not having a jig or surface to clap to. Luckily I have a plan in place and just have to stick around to see that one.

PS no temp gauges today but It was hot and not fun welding.

Welding on the garage floor, in August, in Florida!!!
You Da Man!!!

I'll be looking for some ideas to steal. I keep flip flopping around on a final welding cart and using different roller cabs I have available.

Roll cabinets work great and seen some great one on the GJ. As good as they are they don't fit into my garage scheme. I'm working on a system to fit my particular garage and layout. Hopefully, it's a good enough idea for people to "steal" the idea from me. LOL

I have to agree Gerard, I have literally no room to fit a roll cabinet as much as I would love one. I ended up giving my eldest son a semi permanent loan of mine that I built some years back.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with..

I am trying to think when I have ever "rolled out" my Craftsman roller tool chest, or other roller chest. I think these are probably for airplane hangers, where a mechanic would move his chest around the plane, or a large truck shop. Most of these roller cabinets have a space and like my own ones, they never move.
We, here, mostly are the space constrained and the proud!!

Specialized little carts and tablesaws are a different story though. Too bad they don't roll all that well on grass---LOL.

Best Regards
Herb

That's awesome.... Can I be adopted lololol. I think smaller carts, tables are so much more versatile and easier to use for other projects also.

I can't see most of us rolling toolboxes around but I can see them rolled around in a garage. I picture a 1950s bottom roller and small top chest rolled around in a ground or out to a driveway to work on a car back I the day. Today we have tool carts, caddie, and trays to bring certain tools to the job verses bringing the whole damn box. I'm almost certain that aircraft mechanics made many "inventions" with toolboxes to make them easier to move them from plane to plane.

Re: My "Shop"

Late night work today. Another reason my table fell apart was the design I used. I thought if I skip mitering the corners I could make the cart real easy to make. Here's what I'm talking about.
6dfd2d5f66dc521863198f203fbb4b8c.jpg
This was a major design flaw. It had to much flex in it. The plywood cut to fit would help but figured not enough. I couldn't fit a another angle so I decided to fit it this way.
e69ee5df1350bc867e745bb95bc6acf6.jpg
This are 1/2 inch cut washers about 1 in in dia and close to the thickness of the bed frame. Doing this bridge the corners and took a lot of the flex out. This also allows me a real easy way to mount my caster.
89595e57e73beda32933183af0ef120d.jpg
I still need to fully weld everything but solve a mistake I made.

That's great. I see now what you were shooting for. Congrats.

Thanks, I really wanted a 4th 3 drawer bottom. I when this became available for trade I jumped at it. If I had the wall space I would book end the 2 tall Craftsmans with a chest on top of each and the 3 smaller units in between. My one issue is WTF do I do with this.
b1a9da58ecde64e5bb9e1f30be0257d5.jpg
Theres only one place to put this cabinet ( it's 2 or 3 if you ask the wife ) and area is better use or off the way I set it up.

I would lose to much putting it here.

I manage to get some work done on my welding cart. ece934b6009c75b9d3bef184e64b600f.jpg
Took the wood I cut for the shelves from the other cart and cut them down to fit. I cut a piece of hardy board for the top.
2591d573aed5fd99b49113ff546887ba.jpg
If nobody is familiar with this product it's a fiber cement board. It's used in bathroom showers and outside sheeting. Its impervious to water and won't burn. These pieces I had left over from my master bathroom remodel and been using them as painting boards. The been sitting outside in the weather for months. It's a great product for outside use.

The bottom shelf holds my CO2, O/A set up, and my Turbo torch.
110cb63bf417a37f183f7a74e8b280df.jpg
I put a toolbox here for my torch stuff and can still see pressures on my tanks.
3aa1586fc01264b490c07a5bef3a8217.jpg

Next shelf is my Lincoln 140 and have room to lift side to access accessories.

Angle on top allows me to hang my grinders and small vises.

Looking good. Great idea on the hardi. Any reviews on your torch. Seems like a tool you need on a semi regular basis so I've been thinking about get a O/A set.

Thanks, I havnt had issues on mine. I got mine from tractor supply for $319 w/ tanks. It's branded under Gaspony. It's a Victor torch and regulators. I didn't want to mess with a old set of torches and regs that I didn't know history and would have to take to a welding shop to get rebuilt. The tanks are through a exchange named throughbreed IIRC. The one thing I really like IMO is that the tanks are mine but can get exchanged at any tractor supply and now Rural King which is 10mins away. It's the same idea as Rhino propane tanks. I prefer this idea cause I don't need to recert my tanks and there's only one welding shop to refill tanks around me in Brooksville and hours are 8-5 Monday to Friday. They do offer bigger tanks and setups but wanted mine small and portable. I got my CO2 tank through same place also. Now only problem is that you can ONLY exchange their tanks so got to buy theirs but since I didn't have anyway it was fine.

The row of Craftsman cabs look great now and those drawers line up perfectly with each other. I'm it does feel good every time you look at it.

Also, very nice job on the welding cart. Do the bottles wobble any bit when moving the cart? Any thoughts of some horizontal strips to make sure they stay standing all the time?

I assume it will get the Craftsman gray paint job.

Nice job. I would maybe add a strap or something to keep the bottles from moving around and falling by accident.
I used a steel wire with eye hooks so mine doesn't fall. And it's removable. My cart needs an overhaul but I made it with cheap or scrap parts.
