Without getting your thread any more off topic than it already is I'm fortunate in that I have a good job with a good company and have been saving my entire career thus far and will continue to do so. (I started here when I was 23 and am 29 now so many years to go.) I'm a big believer in not having debt, and that includes a house. I could have a lot more fun now if we weren't planning to pay our house off in the next 5 years, I'll be early 30's by that point. Congrats to you and to Bob as well as you've done things right and will have/have comfortable retirements were you don't have to worry about if you have to eat dry cat food or splurge for fancy feast.

just keep that up..... you will be amazed the freedom a paid off house and money in the bank gives you. some time after I paid off my first house I had a misunderstanding with a boss at work, wasnt my boss but he thought he was. Anyway he threatened me with firing on something I was absolutely right about, so I looked him in the eye and said "you do what you feel you need to do because thats what I did. I did what was right." I knew I could live without that job and it gives you a new perspective on life. Anyway, that was 10 years ago, im still with the same company. I bought a second house after I got married when the interest rates were nill, but I still miss the days when I was debt free......

Taumac, how did you get on with the little carts ? Did all the talk of welding in thongs (or flip flops as you call them on that side of the drink) mean there was some progress ?

I think worse than welding in thongs are those that cut grass and line trim in them. If you burn your toe is one thing, it's a bit harder to stick your foot back on

Don't worry about this thread going off topic. This thread is like a long boring slide show that needs a kick in the ***/ **** ( for the English folk) and a little off topic talk from time to time. LOL.

I've had some finical hits over the years so I'm no where near where I should be or want to be. I just live from day to day taking what I can out of check to put in it.

I had few debt issues over the years. I got out of the hole and cut the credit cards up. I live cash poor now but only people I own anything to is the mortgage company. Once wife get a good paying job I know we will be living better but it was really rough for a while. I bought my house when market was high and now is worth half of what I bought it for. I could have easily just told the mortgage company to take the house. I didn't cause I took 20k out of 401k to by my house. I knew how hard i worked to put that money in there I couldn't just walk away even through I would have been better off in long run. We love the neighborhood and this house so hopefully dlcwent will send me fat check so I can pay off the house when he hits the lottery. LOL.

I went to work for IBM in 1964 when I was 20 and nearly died less than a year later. After 21 days on sick leave Social Security stopped taking money out of my paycheck so I got a raise from them. I also got a raise from not paying for a train tickets every week. A month after my mishap I passed the one-year mark at IBM and could invest 10% of my salary in IBM stock (for a 15% discount). My annual salary was less than $5,000 so it took a year to buy one share for $517. A stock split the next year meant I was able to buy a second and third share. By Thanksgiving 1967 we owned four shares worth more than $2,500. Sold the stock to pay cash for a brand new 1968 GTO. I continued to buy IBMl stock and sell it to pay for cars, boats and even houses.

We sold enough IBM stock to pay cash for our current house. If you don't have a mortgage or car payments when you retire, it's easier to live comfortably on a smaller income.

That's great. I would love to live mortgage free. A coworker retired earlier cause he had no mortgage. I can only wish to have money to live without mortgage. I think that would be a life changing experience. I'm young in big picture but knowing many people older than me and better finically off depresses me but I also know that I will be there also in time.

Thanks for asking. I'll post some pics up later when I get home. I got one welded up and other cut to size not welded at all. I had to do a days work to make both fit. After that I changed gears and been working on something else for pass few days.

What style of string trimmer are you using? I have too long straight shafted trimmers and never had it come close to my feet but I can see if using a electric or a curved shaft your feet would become an issue. I guess it doesn't help either that I don't use the trimmer guards on any of mine. I learned that trick watching all the professionals mow lawns. Not having the guard on allows a longer line out of the head thus cutting a bigger wider cut.

Funny enough I usually 99% of the time wear a old pair of boots while doing the lawn. I not worried about cutting foot off more I'm worried about twisting my angle.

I often asked that same question. I thought well...... What if a get rid of both? LOL. I decided to keep both and postponed my decision for another day. LOL. I see you sold the bachelor pad and the container. I would leave provisions for living quarters in the shed if needed. LMAO

Taumac I have a generic branded 2 stroke with a bent shaft. This one has an edger attachment on it. Couldn't start the damn thing this morning. After a bit of cussing at it I found the fuel pickup line was broken off in the tank so had to muck around installing a new line. Worked fine after that, it had always seemed to cut out a bit before too and I think the weight float that sits on the fuel pickup in the tank had come off a long time ago, so by the time you were down to half a tank it was starting to **** air.

My main trimmer is a straight shaft Honda 4 stroke. Very nice and powerful. My BIL is a horticulturist by trade and got me a deal on this at his mower supplier a couple of years ago.

My preference after using both now is the bent shaft over the straight shaft.

I have always been affraid of using a string trimmer without the guard even though I use leather boots and wear pants to mow. The guard also helps keep debris from coming back on you and into your face/eyes. Of course if I had a trimmer with enough guts to spin a long line I might try it.

I also prefer the bent shaft trimmer. Just easier to keep a nice even cut it seems. And taumac, tonight 's the night. The check should be arriving by the middle of next week.

Had to get lawn and pool service for my home when I took a 2-year assignment in Australia. I cancelled the pool service when we moved back but kept the lawn service. When the job turns into a 7-day 80-100 hours a week slog, it's hard to find time to mow, edge and trim even a small yard. It's been almost 30 years but when I did do the lawn, I spent more money on the edger than I did on the reel mower (I preferred the clean cut that gave). The one I had would probably have cut slots in concrete if I swapped in a diamond blade.

I also preferred the curved shaft line trimmer.

I was down at inlaws mowing the lawn I thought take some pics of my favorite lawn tool since topic is up.

It's a toro they sold in For $200. This one I found about 2006 that someone threw out. A cough spark arrester caused all the issues. It's be running since then. I prefer the straight shaft and is pretty safe distance away from me.

I use .095 line with about 12" out of the head and found I like the bigger bump head like this also.

I use a edger attachment like this one from Craftsman. I got it as a kit with power head, trimmer and edger attachment. It works great from driveway and edging around the curb a lawn edging ( concrete molded edging.

I still have a walk behind edger that mainly I use between street and my lawn. It helps give me a straight line. Heres my old beast.


I got this from my FIL when he sold big house and downsized. He moved down in 1986 and sold it in roughly 2005. It's a 2 cycle and starts up all the time right away. I have a cover for the air filter but I took it off so I can fold it up.

I sorry I didn't get to post these last night. Here's the progress I made with idea I had.
I made a new cart for the welder

It's same height and depth but this one only 10 3/4 wide.
I wanted to have a second identical one. Once I knew 2 would fit I cut down the other.

Here's where it got tricky. I needed to move sink over about 3/4 of a inch but didn't what to rebuild this bench so I moved entire bench down. I needed a filler piece between HF bench and sink bench. I cut this.







You can see how far walls are out. I built the HF bench, sink bench separate from each other. So putting together on walls that are out is not setting me up to success in this case. I'm not liking the way this came out at all. Walls out and nothing lining up so thinking of recutting a new filler and running a piece of angle on HF top to support the sink bench front to back. Plus that extra 2x4 pushes the mini 10 drawer over so now bottom box and top box dot line up. I cut the top off the mini 10 drawer to fit it under the shelf. I decided this box would work for small cleaning stuff. I didn't have a use for it after I cleaned it out and no where to put it so there was best spot for now.

My neighbor had an edger just like that one Bob Heine posted and it was surely a beast. It used to take me about 30 minutes to edge my corner lot, curb on two sides, both sides of the sidewalk, our driveway and sidewalk, the storm water ditch on one side and our patio on the back of the house. I now don't have to edge at all at our new place, however the yard is about 20 times the size so it still takes a while to get done. The double carts are coming along great Taumac.

Thanks, I'm working toward the plan I had. I'm not sure what the plan is exactly. Trying to do one as a welding cart and other for my torches. I don't know yet if one cart or 2 smaller ones is going to work better. I know just having to ability to roll something out with my welder in it has been nice. Roll out, plug in, and dodge hot sparks in flip flops. LOL.

Thanks, I had to roll out welder today and it's nice to just roll small one out. I was thinking as same idea of clamping them together or maybe apart a some and bridge them with welding top? If I do that I'm not sure those casters will handle it. I just going to hold off until I build welding table and see where I stay then. Until then I'll still think of ideas.

Moving **** around. Well it always seems like I just move stuff from one side of garage to another. Today, I did just that.
I was thinking of taking the white cabinet off the wall and moving creeper up to the ceiling.

My thought by doing this is I've have better access to side drawers.


They don't pull out of way when creeper in hanging there. You can see the difference.

I already found homes for stuff in there and I was just about to get screw gun and thought about this.
I have 4 5gal buckets on other wall full of spray paint. I moved all the "Garage" paints I use for vises, toolboxes, etc and moved it in here.

So I got down to 1 bucket and emptied 3.

So I got 3 empty buckets. Hmmmmmm what should I put in theses??? I looked around and thought I'll move stuff in theses bins in there.

That will free up upper top shelf. See I just move **** from one side to another. LOL.

I honestly don't know what the HELL to do with this 26in machinist box. Last night screwing around and thought lets see how this looks white with red drawers. Three options white body/ red drawers, gray body/ red drawers or all gray like it was originally.?

Also need opinion on this.

I have those Argo bins in red also to start. From the belt sander over I have theses shelves. Top shelf can stack two bins. On lower shelf can only stack one. So here's the question. Do I move the grinders to the lower shelf and move or the bins to the top shelf? Or keep it how it is???? I'm thinking moving all the yellow stuff to top shelf cause it's bothers me having all the yellow and red mixed. I thinking also be easier to use grinders being lower. Decisions decisions decisions

LOL I use both. I always grabbing bins and with new mounting system on bench would lend itself to use grinders more? IDK. Might just have to try it out.

The machinist chest was a $10 flea market find and had brushed on blue paint. I couldn't pass it up for $10 even if I used it for parts. Now I'm trying to clear benches of everything and it's empty with not even a place to store it off bench.


I did want to put it here and have all crown craftsman but I like uniform look of 3 machinists chest lined up. It's also 6in too long ( I wish I had that problem) to fit or look good on shelf. I really wouldn't mind trading the Kennedy and 26in Craftsman machinist for just one Crown Craftsman but both kinda rough. If you where closer I wouldn't mind doing that. I don't think its even worth the shipping cost to send it to you.

My 2 cents.
Refurb the the first box, sell it possibly. Keep the matching three. As far as the shelves, it does make sense to move the grinders lower. Have you thought about shorting top shelf and stacking all the yellow bins vertically.

No vote to white and red on that tool box. Either all gray as original or gray with red. I was going to also vote to put things lower that you use most often thinking the grinders. Also heavier things lower to make easier to get off shelf but, it all depends on how often you access those bins and contents.

You do cause me to aske a separate question. Your belt sander looks like a Craftsman? If so, how do you like it and do you have belt on it for metal or use only for wood? I keep looking at those 4" Craftsman's for sale used but always change my mind. I would like one mostly for metal work but don't know their durability? Hoping you have some first hand testimony.
