How in the world will you sleep tonight knowing all is not perfect with those boxes and that you need to put back in place tomorrow.
Going to be a long night.![]()
No sleep for Taumac. He's busy painting the bathroom..![]()
Gerard, do you need room to open the top lids on them ?
If you move the 10d up to match the 6d then you are going to have to different gap levels under each which might look funny.
Is the lateral cabinet strong enough to take the DP and vise on top (maybe add a sheet of ply or something on top) as it does not look like you will have much bench space there now.
If you cut (leaving the centre section) or lose the shelf completely and hang the 6d's the same way as you did the 10d's then they would be the same and you would have probably just enough gap under them still for the chargers. (Then room for another 6d in the middle to complete the look).
Then on the tote wall could you sacrifice a few totes and cut a shelf section out to recess the lateral cabinet into that wall with the DP and vise on it. At least they become portable to move around the garage then too.
That just leaves the welding cart to find a home.
Ok that's my 2 beers worth of thought
Cheers GB.
Oh and I scored something today you will be proud of, I'll go get a pic shortly and update this post.
edit: ...so not made in USA, but as close to craftsman as I'm likely to get.

In all seriousness, I use to be "I'm stuck with what I have". Then I came to GJ and learned people will alter anything if it makes it work better or look better. I think it's time to break out the drill and make all the handles line up.
While the handles are off, paint those boxes!!!!
^^^..Damn.... Shorty is bringing his "A" game now..... Gerard be strong.....hold out for the red & gray custom color set!

Do you have enough space somewhere to build a shelf for DP that would allow a simple quick use, and then be able to slide DP onto whichever mobile cart, a quick way to secure it and use for larger projects?
Kinda of similar to how you store your grinders.
I'm gonna do a mock up and try it out for few days before go any further. He's my idea. Two is company and 3 is a crowd. When I got the word from the tool gods it made total sense. I based everything in my garage on 2 (twins) I got 2 HF44, 2 machinist and list goes on. Now I stood staring at wall visually moving things. I know that the 9D bottom or 5D/10D stack isn't going anywhere cause I really really like this look.

Ok, just tossing out an idea as I survey the current vision..... If you were to move the three smaller drawer chests to the middle. Make a custom riser drawer that would slide underneath bringing those chests to the same height as the 5 drawer chest which would then keep your OCD in check because now the bottom tool boxes would all have their drawer handles line up. The riser drawer could hold those longer odd items that usually get stuck in a corner..... This would also give you more uninterrupted workbench space . Just thinking out loud....

Hi taumac, I just saw your post over in the organization thread. Nice garage you have. I just did a restoration on the same Prentiss vise that you have. What do you have in the hole on top of the vise?
Gerard,
PS. You'll never win a "best legs" contest.![]()
How do the heights work out if you put the 9d's on top of the 3d bases and the 6d's on top of the 5d bases ?

Well, visually the new idea looks good and makes the DP functional but, you lose a lot of bench top space for work and charging, vise and other tool attachment there. Will you have enough other/portable bench surface to make up for the loss?
Looks like this might require lots of staring and beer drinking to finalize.

That's neat Gerard, I have been living behind a rock as I have never seen a vise like that.

Give the guy some tools and a toolbox and he can fix about anything. Give a guy a garage and he'll use those tools to rearrange it 437 times. LOL

Thanks man. I took awhile to build but that's the look I was going after. Exactly how I plan then.... Gerard happened! I wanted to build a service cart from one of the extra chest but it came apparent that wouldn't happen. You see 2 chest in background?
So if built the cart it would be stored here with 2 chairs and small IKEA cart. Made it impossible to get through or get to box if needed. So Gerard happen and try to get those chest on the Craftsman wall. Even though wall came out great it just didn't function as well as I hoped. It just needed tweaking which was moving everything 2in to the right. I keep knocking off sensors to garage door pulling the last roller out. Then DP was a issue. I might not have that DP in future but I did need better plan or place to have one. I thought about many places but it was better left on bench then the alternatives. Out of floor space swap to corner only option and to get 6D out of way I swapped the carry ones out cause those much easier to store. Alittle trail and error is par for course....
I actually thought about painting my HF boxes to match my Craftsman's. Gray and red HF cabinets would be bad *** but that's a project on the bottom of the priority list.
I think you're onto something with that statement. Maybe you should take a re-arrange break and get everything painted the same theme. Refinish the Craftsmans to their original colors and paint the HF to match then see how they start looking as you arrange them.
Sometimes just having all the right color perspective can spark the right look in your head of how they should be placed.

I already started using a color that's close to the HF red on the Craftsmans. I would realistically only have to paint outer parts of the 44's gray and keep the drawers untouched. I thought by just having the red match up it would make big difference.
