Boiler, I’m just so used to gears. Not sure how it will feel. Its modern, hip, and flashy, which I’m none of. We will see.
Strout, I’ll keep my eyes out. You never know! And the whole bmx thing. The bikes just look so tiny?

I zoomed in on the Fuji... it's technically not a Fixie since it has brakes.... does it freewheel backwards or is it a proper fixie? Since it has brakes, if it doesn't freewheel, I'd swap it to a freewheel and keep it a single speed.

What size is the frame? I'd be interested in it if it's not too big.

And nice score on the GF Marlin.

It’s actually got the flip flop.

New to the fixie single speed world. No brakes? It’s got two gears on the crank? Normal? Do you switch chain placement when you “flip” the rear?
School me please! Why freewheel over fixie?
Measuring the frame I think it’s a 58. My extreme. If I can move stuff over, Boiler, you’ve got first refusal on the frame.
It wasn’t always single as it has the bosses for shifters and cables. Need to google.

A fixie is a fixed single speed. No freewheel. Occasionally they'll have a single rim brake on the front, but fixie snobs will frown on that.

If it has a freewheel then it's a single speed and you need brakes.

The dual rings in front is unique. Usually they just have a single.

Maybe the dual crank is all the guy had around?
So Flip flop = not cool!
Here are the wheels and crank on the Super Course. I do like the look.
I knew the 700c wheels would cause brake issues. How do I deal with that? Rig up some lowering mount and just run a front? I’m not hip enough to go brakeless.

Nothing wrong with a flip-flop, especially if you were going to race on a velodome or closed circuit. Run fixed for the race, flip it to SS with brakes for training on city streets.

Decided to start a specific thread on the Raleigh going Fixie over in the fab section. Spent a few earlier making an adapter to lower the front brake. Needs some tweaking, but the concept is solid.

Home with the kiddos dodging the Coronavirus and enjoying the sunshine.
Finally found a minute to toss the bb from the Fuji in the Raleigh to keep the chain happy. Shortened a chain. Tossed on the cranks with some old school pedals. Fitted a single brake lever. Cleaned the wheels.
Even aired up the tires. Yes, Boiler, I bought a presta valve adapter, as drilling those tiny wheels would be crazy.
She rides really smooth. I’m used to the weight of the fat bike, so this thing leaps off the line.
I’ll post the weight when I scale her.

A buddy let me know there was a bike on the side of the road. I grabbed the Trek 700 at lunch. It’s got a nice Specialized seat that I’ll toss on one of the keeper bikes. The rest will get cleaned up and passed along. It’s got knobby 700c wheels and tires that would look good on something though. We will see.
I’ve also been thinking on the bike storage. Back on page 13 I installed hooks to hang 2 bikes. They were perpendicular to the rafter. Those will stay and I will add 5 more sets to hang bikes parallel to the rafters down the shop.
I’ll have to move the lights around, but should be great for storage. Will look cool too.

So just among friends here, have you ever meet a bike you didn’t like and want to bring it home?

I do hate to see a lonely bicycle. I’m getting more snobby though. I’ll still grab a bike to save it from being scrapped, but I’m not above pulling apart two bike to save one.
Did a little bike organizing in the 2nd shed. Got 8 keepers hung in there along with the 2 current kiddo bikes on the ground. 6 outside to be sold. Was planning to wait for spring to post, but now with the Carona I can’t imagine many online bike shoppers. I’ll wait.
Strout, I’m going to keep the good stuff inside.
I lifted a few bikes overhead to get a feel for the new hanging plan. The road bikes will be fine, but the mountains are too tall. Maybe if the front tire hangs at the peak...? Gonna have to see about that.

Took way to long to get a single bike hung. Couldn’t do it the way I wanted due to head height and the silly bike hooks are too wide and don’t fit through the spokes when sideways.
Now I’ll run with this plan. Going to hang 4 more overhead.

Got the rest of the hooks up. 5 accessible bikes hung and 1 buried. I was concerned that the mountain bikes would hang too low, but everything hangs with about 6in clearance to my head. Because you are looking though the stuff it doesn’t feel claustrophobic at all.
Got some other stuff hung and I’ll make a shelf to get some parts and things up.
The fatbike is just not going to hang and the tandem needs 8ft, which I just don’t have.

Now that I’ve got the bikes off the floor I’m going to use this lockdown to get the shed cleaned out and the little lathe up and cutting. Been meaning to order a 3/8in link belt and pulley for the 3/4 horse motor. Today is the day.

I decided that I wouldn’t do another bike until I get the little lathe cutting...
So, I bought a 2003 Gary Fisher Sugar frame.

The plan is to switch all my GF Bitter stuff over and end up with a full suspension 17.5in disk bike.

I’ve been wanting to do a bare aluminum frame. Ran a test with old Aircraft Stripper. I was concerned that it wouldn’t eat the thick paint, but it should work once the stickers are out of the way.

This frame will be going disks. Anyone ever remove the old brake mounts? I can see a rivet. Then what, glue?
Drill, apply heat, and pry off?

Today’s home-schooling wood-shop class.
With all this class video conferencing school stuff we needed some iPad stands. This is my girls design. Still need a second one for the boy.

Boiler, it may totally not be worth it and the heat concerns are real... but?
It’s an aluminum frame, so I don’t think it would be brazed. Maybe it would. The whole frame is welded though. The rivet is the clue that makes me think it is just glued. Rivet to locate the boss and hold while the glue dries? Cause really, what’s the point of the rivet? It all just looks applied.

Needed to get a motor mounted to figure out belt length. To do that I had to slot the top.
I picked up this adjustable drill years ago and this was the perfect opportunity to try it. It was fantastic.

Forecasted upwards of 70mph winds this evening so I tossed the ends on the genny cord I haven’t gotten around to yet. You know, in case.

The wind didn’t materialize. Well, not what was forecasted. I’ll chock it up to the genny being ready to go.

Have some lathe tooling decisions to make...
Trying to make small progress daily. Got some drawers mounted under the motor, that have been waiting for the motor to finally be hung. Here is the new home for the pencils I never can find, a tape, and some metal rules.
And, a bike followed me home, but we won’t talk about that.
