E9 content would be cool! You're right, that is definitely missing. I'd focus on that. My most recent video was doing the head and an RS2 upgrade on my S6, and that video took off, over 10k views in a few months. I think it was just because the car is sort of rare, if I had done a detailing video on it I don't think anybody would care.

Facebook is horrible for archiving information. People asking the same questions over and over, wanting to be spoon fed information, and no ability to search for answers to questions that people have already solved. I'm glad forums are still active for all the cars I'm involved in.

Facebook actually does have a pretty decent search feature. People simply overlook that and demand to be spoon fed. Goddamn sense of entitlement that everyone and their mother has these days.

But I’m glad forums are still a thing, as well. Tons of valuable data out there. But the future is Facebook, whether we like it or not. [emoji1361]

I haven't been around too much lately. I recently spent two weeks at EAA airventure in Oshkosh Wi for work. I only snapped one pic the whole 14 days I was there, but it was a good one.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

It was a lot of hard work but there were a few moments of fun here and there. Right before I left for the show, my dad and I pulled the dash out of the e9 and sent it off for repair.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Upon returning from WI we started on repairing the wood trim.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

To be honest, my dad has done all the veneer work on these. I did help and little but I mostly watched him work. They are coming out great and my dad never ceases to amaze me.

The cluster bezel is a pain in the ***, because of some compound curves. We ruined two pieces of mahogany yesterday on it. Hes going to give it another go today.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

That pretty much brings the e9 project up to date. I have really spent most of my time on the wagon lately. I took Friday off and spent most of this last weekend detailing it. I was going to film it but I honestly just wanted to knock it out. One of my friends is looking at Golf R's so I may film that process if we detail it. Anyway, Thursday night I gave it a strip wash, clay and sprayed it down with iron remover.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I also degreased and dressed the engine.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Friday morning, I woke up early to tape up the trim and start on the paint correction. After trying to single step a test area, I quickly figured out that I would need to two step it. I spent most of the day compounding and then polishing the paint. After that process I applied Jescar powerlock and allowed it to cure over night.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I couldn't help snapping a reflection shot after applying the powerlock.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

While that was curing, the BumperPlugs I ordered showed up.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

They are kinda expensive for what they are, and I intended for this to be a temporary fix, so I only ordered two. I used them on the outer most holes.

by Nick Wood, on Flickr

They require the existing hole to be drilled out to fit the plug, so I reluctantly grabbed my drill.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

And drilled out the holes.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Then installed the plugs. They fit and look okay but Im not going to be happy with this as a permanent fix, I think I will buy a Mtech bumper eventually.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Saturday morning I put the first coat of collinite 845 on, cleaned and coated the trim with Gyeon trim, and sealed the glass with Griots glass sealant. I let it sit for a few hours to run some errands and then put the second coat of 845 on. I wanted to pull the car out to check for missed spots in the sun, but days of sitting with doors open left the battery dead as a door nail. I removed all the covers in the trunk to hook a charger directly on the battery but I found that it looked to be the original battery. I put a meter on it and got a reading of 3 volts.... it was time to replace it.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Thankfully Autozone had a battery that almost matched the specs perfectly. I installed it and so far, I havent had any coding issues that are common with e9x cars. I will probably order a carly or something similar soon since I want to make some changes anyway, so I will code the battery then. Since the car was now clean and starting under its own power, I took it for a test drive and snapped some pics.

Also while I was detailing my ups driver dropped off one of my recent orders.

The wheels will be here later this week........

I bought one of these (https://www.ecstuning.com/b-schwabe...essional-bmw-mini-scan-tool/014020sch01a~scf/) to use on my family's many BMWs/Minis and I've really liked it so far. They go on sale fairly frequently. I got mine for around $150

I use the carly app to do stuff with my E91 and it works fine, that is a good looking wagon man.

Will that code the battery and day time running lights and stuff?

The Schwaben tool is the Foxwell nt510. It will do the battery and code injectors but it will not do any other coding. It is a pretty good tool for casual DIY, but if you need to do any serious troubleshooting it is limited. The Carly app will do some limited coding but is pretty unstable in my experience. The Bavarian Technic tool will do lots of coding and bidirectional communication with the car (think activate sensors for diagnostics). I think most guys that are serious about coding the later model BMW's just download the ISTA software and have the full set of tools available. I haven't gone down the BT or ISTA rabbit hole yet but it may be coming.

EAA is nuts. I work down in Fondy and the traffic up there is crazy, it is cool to see fighter planes shoot over my house tho. :D

I have a ton of fun up there.......after 5pm. My company is one of the Partner Sponsors, and we have a huge booth and our name on the hangar. I pretty much spend the whole show working my *** off. I can get you passes next year if you remind me. You can repay me with Spotted Cow.:lol_hitti

Wagon is looking good, man! I'm now seriously considering replacing my Accord when the lease is up with a BMW wagon. The E91 would be fun, but seeing as I've already owned an E90, the F31 is growing on me. I've seen a few driving the last few days and they're pretty damn sharp looking.

That said, I'm going to test drive the M340i on Friday, as used examples of those might be right in my wheelhouse, price-wise, when my lease is up in 18 months.

5 attempts, wow... after the second or maybe the third attempt, I'd be all over the news, with a bezel, a car, a garage and a house set on fire :bounce:

My mom has an F31 and its great. As of now the last BMW wagon sold in the US. I wanted something a little simpler and no car payment so I went with the e91. That being said there were a few M sport f31's when I was looking that were VERY tempting.

E91 with N54/55 swap would be fun. I have an E61 with N54 but it’s 4000 lbs and not as nimble.

I need an Msport bumper for my wagon now, thanks. :lol_hitti

And yea, that e9 is something..... My 2800cs has a lot of body flex when its on the lift, I couldnt imagine what that power is doing to the body.

In other news, my wheels came in last night.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I also got a sunglasses holder bin to replace the ash tray, and new Msport steering wheel trim.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I did wagon things and loaded it down, I hope I can get off work a little early to get them mounted this afternoon.

Agree on the Apex I have Arc-8 17x8.5 on the e30 M3. Wanted a set of BBS RK but I am going to have to settle for the for the Apex. I also have the oem BBS RS in 16's for it.

M-Sport wagon in a manual is perfect and I don't like white cars but I do like that one.

I wish it were a manual... but I have other manual cars I can drive. So I just got back from a few days in Vegas. Before I left I got the tires mounted and and coated the wheels with Gyeon Rim.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

The plan was to let them sit and cure while I was gone, but they really only need 12 hours and I couldn't wait to see them on the car, so I mounted them and snapped some pics before heading to the airport.

I could not be happier with how they look and I reluctantly left the car and got a flight to Vegas. We arrived Saturday afternoon and just relaxed in the room and gambled a little. Sunday morning we got up early and picked up our rental car, an eco-boost mustang vert, and drove to the Grand Canyon.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

The Mustang was actually pretty fun, and the drive to the Grand Canyon was beautiful. We paid WAAAAAY too much money at the reservation to see the canyon though but I don't know if Ill go again anytime soon so why not. It was cool to finally see it.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

On the way back we stopped by the Hoover Dam and also checked out the Lake Mead overlook.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

After dropping off the rental, we went out to dinner and did a little more gambling, but mostly took it easy. I had an appointment with another rental car the next morning....... A few months back when we were planning the trip, my wife surprised me with a gift certificate for Speed Vegas. My rental car for day two.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

My instructor was super cool and after learning I have some driving school and track experience, let me push the car. It was an absolute blast and he said my times were just a couple seconds off his fast time in the GT3. My wife and I after my laps, I was a little sweaty.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

We spend the rest of the time in Vegas doing what you do in Vegas.... Drinking, gambling, and eating way too much. I did really well at the Blackjack tables, almost tripling my money. It was a great time but I'm not sure I would go back anytime soon.... Before leaving, my wife made me go see the sign.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

We got home Wed, and I was exhausted. Thankfully I took Thursday off as well, so I took some time to install my sunglasses holder and steering wheel trim.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I am really happy with how the steering wheel looks now, and it was much cheaper than a full M wheel.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I also installed some 10mm spacers on the rear but the chamfer was wrong and they were damaged. Partially my fault, partially really cheap spacers. I may order some 12mm ones from Apex directly but I am thinking it over.

New wheels on the car look AWESOME!
First day rental, meh... Second day rental... MY-GOD! What a great gift from your wife, and what a fantastic experience that must have been.

How did the gambling go? Just realized I skipped a part, you tripled on Black Jack. Yay!

I bet he tells everyone that....:lol_hitti

Seriously, a cool experience....

That's what I thought too but he told me he was serious. I have looked at a few videos on youtube and I am right there with the fast times.

Wheels look great and that tire fitment is spot on

So jealous of your time in the GT3. Total bucket list!! Wheels look good on the wagon!

Thanks, I am really happy with the wheels and my wife is seriously awesome.

I really didn't do much over the weekend, Sunday was my bday and I just wanted to be lazy. I did give the wagon a quick wash on Friday after work, the wheel coating is amazing. I really didn't have to do much to clean them, all the dust blew right off with the pressure washer.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Sunday morning I had the urge to get the M3 out for a cruise to get some coffee and then take it out to the airport to swap it for the 02. I went down to the garage, disconnected the charger, checked the fluids and cranked it up. It ran like ****, and before I left the driveway a CEL popped on. I scanned it and had a cylinder 3 misfire. I pulled it right back into the garage, made some coffee and pulled the engine cover. The plan was the swap cylinder coil pack over to another cylinder and see if it moved but upon removal it was pretty obvious the cause of the issue.

It looks like all the horsepower leaked out. :lol_hitti

I have a new one coming that should be at the house when I get there. I also have a carly unit coming today as well, that should be fun to play with.

I've been following this thread for as long as I can recall, thinking you and I have a lot in common.

I currently have seven in my stable. And my daily is a wagon - in my case an F31.

43650978384.518823610.IM1.07.1600x1200_A.1600x1200.jpg

But I also have an E34 M5, E30 Convertible, E31 6 speed, E46 Touring, E28 and an M Coupe. My wife also drives an F15 X5.

Yesterday I picked up an E36 M3 Convertible. I was allowed to because it was also my birthday! It's all starting to make sense now :)

IMG_1726.jpg

My garage thread is coming soon, as I'm getting ready to start on a garage expansion project. I rent a 24x34 space near my house - pictured above - and we are adding a similar-sized space behind our current two car.

Wait what???? Not sure I knew this. Sunday 8/18 was both of your birthdays??

It was my 45th birthday as well. I celebrated with another BMW fan who also shares the same birthday.

I took my Cobra out for a Sunday birthday drive, same thing I think you were planning with the 02.

Haha TX4unner - I turned 44 yesterday. I have a twin too, and we both bought cars yesterday. For me, the M3, for him a '75 CJ-5. Something about 8/18 I guess :)

Happy birthday!
Too bad the E36 got jealous of the Touring and didn't want to go out and play :lol_hitti

Touring is looking mighty fine!

That's some collection you've got there. Nice to see so many BMW fans on GJ!!

PS: Want to adopt me? :shocking:
PS2: 8/18 is also my mom's birthday lol!

I’ve spent the past week or so reading your whole thread. Fantastic work, you have some real talent to detail with a rotary and do all the mechanical stuff! I’m another OG fan with an F80 and a couple BMW bikes, and I’m really thinking I need an F31 as a daily now....
