To gridfinity and beyond!

It is probably going to take the rest of the summer to do these bins, but I look forward to the process and the end result.

My wife doesn’t get it. Please tell me you guys understand that I had to buy a 3d printer to obsessively organize my personal hardware store.

Once you get going, it's addicting!

I finally got one drawer filled this weekend. Still gotta organize it. Deciding if I want to move the metric to it's own drawer - but this is how the nuts and washers look.

i don't have a 3d printer myself, but always come across ideas, that to me anyway, seem as though they would be good ideas for 3d printing if someone was so inclined. Case in point the link included, i refuse on principal to pay $70 bucks for this item, but alas i am also without good shade in my driveway lol. Is this something someone might consider printing? Coupled with some harbor freight toolbox hook magnets might make awesome useful item

For a 5 foot umbrella to withstand the stresses from breezes, clamping, etc, I would think you'd want something more than a 3D printed part for the base, let alone the thought of a HF magnet holding it down.

@bigredcornhead in all seriousness, if the model doesn't already exist, someone is looking at a good chunk of time to do that. Hitting print is the easy part.

I'd suggest looking on sites like thingiverse, printables and makerworld. If you can find an existing model, there are people here that could print you one, and services online you can pay.

Unless you already have the umbrella, magnet, strap, and knobs, I doubt you'll be able to buy more than lunch at McDonald's with the savings over just buying that one at Amazon, though

Thanks, I have no idea how it all works together, forgive my ignorance lol. These are repositories for already existing model files, thingiverse, printables and makerworld. Got it now, i didn't know the time that went into this sort of thing, i was hopeful the material used might hold up tho. Oh well just a thought.

There are definitely materials that can handle this stuff. I bet even simple Petg would be fine. 3d printed parts have been made to handle much higher stresses than an umbrella

If you look into that mount, I believe you'll find it's made from cast aluminum. For what it's worth a 5 foot umbrella and a 10mph breeze would not favor a 3D printed mount, unless it was significantly beefier than the metal mount. It would also need several threaded inserts to have the functionality of the one shown, further adding to complexity and cost.

For the asking price of the referenced umbrella and mount it's actually pretty reasonably priced.

I'm not advocating against buying it... I did the opposite.

I am confident that a printed one could work without being unwieldy. Now I want to try 😁
