Just checked the 20% coupon in the magazine/coupon book that comes in the mail. You're right, Central Machinery excluded. Guess that's the new policy going forward. Eventually everything in the store will be excluded.

They also added DiamondBack so if you are thinking about the Heavy Duty Wet Tile Saw or blade make sure you have the right coupon!

Was browsing in my local HF and noticed magnetic socket rails very similar to Koken brand. Quite a bit longer than the Koken, available in 1/2”, 3/8” and 1/4” with 16 holders on each rail. Magnets were strong and socket holders slid easily along the rail. All black and back side had thin foam padding. Made in Taiwan. $17 each

A little long for my needs but the flip side is you can fit larger socket sets per rail. Not sure how they would handle being chopped shorter, ie deforming, etc

Well worth the $
Found them: https://www.harborfreight.com/38-in-magnetic-socket-rail-black-70021.html

62866 Oscillating Multi-Tool. Pass. My Makita blew up in the middle of flooring my basement, so I bought the cheapest one I could find to keep working. For $20, it does the job. I used it to trim the jambs so I could slide the tile underneath. Noisy, and only one speed, but hey, it was only $20. When I get a new head for my Makita, I'll probably just leave it set up for corner sanding.

Do the coupons depend on the HF location or personnel to get used? I used them for years but lately there 20 or 25 % off do not work for much. I went to buy a roll of mig wire and they would not let me use the 20% because they called it a welder. Cashier said they could not override the computer. I understand their intent on using it on welders or high priced items but the wire was just a welding supply. Is this also why they are name branding more of their merchandise? by the way the wire went back onto the shelf. If i'm going to buy Chinesium wire Menard's is 3.00 cheaper.

The wire was probably one of the "premium" branded products, vulcan I do belive. There is usually a separate coupon for 10 percent off or so. Will say the wire welds decent on my miller welder.

Vulcan is usually excluded on the 20% off coupons. There is a special 20% off coupon though for all Vulcan accessories with no expiration date.

1/2 In. Grommet Installation Kit 104 Pc - Pass

I bought this kit to put tie down grommets in a canvas cover I made for my jeep's winch. I used an arbor press to punch the holes and peen the grommets. The punch was sharp and the grommets peened perfectly. I only wish the grommets were brass instead of aluminum. But for my purpose, they will be fine.

why? Do they not work? Get loose, what?

I was thinking about getting these

They get leaky.

They worked great for me, for the first couple weeks, so I bought more to outfit all of my garden hoses and stuff, and then, of course, started breaking down/leaking.

I don't think it's limited to the HF ones, either - I've bought them at a couple other locations thinking that it might just be the HF ones, but they all ****.

Shame.

Can you give the details on that winch? I've been trying to find something similar to lift the ground tackle on a boat. If it can pull a Jeep, it can pull 300lbs of anchor and chain off the bottom.

They used to be brass, at some point in the last couple years they've changed it.

Leaked like crazy right out of the package. Returned them but I let the manger talk me into trying another set. Thosed at least leaked less on something like a sprinkler, but anything like a nozzle or handheld and you're gonna get wet.

I have some of the Yardworks from Menards and they've been good, but I wanted a bunch more and saw the HF ones for cheap. Eh, I tried.

They might fit tighter if you stacked another washer in the female side. But that usually just makes the washer/s squish out of place.

Harbor Freight just lowered the price on this socket set from $39.99 to $29.99:

https://www.harborfreight.com/64-Pc...d=mEmail_s1021_3719b_5off50&lid=3,144,689,245

Does anyone know the range of socket sizes?
Is this any good?

I don't know the range of sizes, but I will say I'm generally not a fan of their round head ratchets. It's likely that they're the same sockets they sell on their lonesome, which have been holding up just fine for me. I'd get the Pittsburgh Pro ratchets though.

Either way, for $30 it's not a huge gamble. I keep a HF set of 3/8" sockets in my AX bag just in case.

I'm ready to pull the trigger on a HF horizontal/vertical band saw. As is typical, they have two stock numbers; is either 93762 or 62377 preferable to the other?

Have you looked at these in the store? Quality check? I went to go look at the woodworking band saw and was shocked at the low quality and very flimsy construction.

I'd like an ammeter. Anyone have experience with the Harbor Freight Cen-Tech Clamp Meter?

https://www.harborfreight.com/digital-clamp-meter-96308.html

My complaint about it is it takes CR2032 batteries. Accidentally leave it on one time and the batteries are dead. And they don't last even if you don't accidentally leave it on. At least with 9volt batteries most people have plenty on hand from smoke detector changes.

I don't have any experience with this meter but you might want to consider a meter that measures DC through the clamp if you ever want to use it for automotive or electronics. It will cost more than the HF one but the DC clamp is so much easier to use.

I had one of these years ago. Complete waste of money if you are doing anything other than sheet metal. Tried to upgrade the band/blade itself (made a small difference) and it just wouldn't have it. Band was always jumping off the wheels, took FOREVER to cut though 1" square tube stock, not much better on angle iron. Adjusted it every which way. Less tension on the lever to cut with any speed and the band would jump. Adjust it to where it didn't jump - not enough weight to make a speedy cut. I'm talking several minutes.

I ended up selling mine on C'list for $50. Left it outside when I was gone and told the buyer to put the cash on the wiper of my truck. Ran an extension cord so he could plug it in. I wouldn't have cried if they had just taken it away.

If you are cutting bar stock, angle iron, tubing, etc., do yourself a huge favor and buy a quality metal chop saw. I found a top of the line Dewalt on C'list for $125 barely used. Put a good blade in it and save yourself all the headaches you'll have until you actually get fed up and do it. I made do with the HF chop saw ($49) and that band saw. Should've bought that Dewalt years ago.

Buy once, cry once. Buy cheap and cry forever.

Thanks, all.

Yes, I need to check AC AND DC Amps to check out car alternators. I think I only need 250 Amps DC, because that's the max recommended for 8 cylinder engines. However, if the alternator is faulty, it could deliver only AC amps (I don't know how much).

Thanks. From the description, it can measure BOTH AC and DC current up to 400 Amps. Is that correct? I don't see a specific DC current selector, and the next to the last photo suggests that putting it on AC current automatically detects DC current?

An initial passing grade on the 6-inch cross slide vice, #32997. I drilled and tapped my drill press platform for it. While I wouldn't use it for anything like real milling, it's much better for securing items than just the rinky-dink rip fence that the press came with, and allows me to align holes well. I'll have to see how it holds up over time.

I love mine. Great on bar stock. Great on aluminium. Not good on thin materials, no saw will be.

Good saw blades make a difference.

Mine 20+ years old and neither of the stock number OP referenced.
