I hate the HF ****... but I don't go into the 56" or 44" tool chest threads to tell them what a POS those boxes are... or any other scads of threads like that

and for reasons like that... i'm just guessing, because I know I am... people are sick of that ****

To make your comparison more accurate though, people aren't bringing HF into Mickey's thread he is doing it himself with the title.

It would be more like you buying a used Snap On box and creating the following thread:

Title: Sweet Deal - HF 44" Chest
Post: I was looking for a new toolbox. Since I know that the Harbor Freight 44" Tool Chest is a ************* good only for use as a light duty changing table, I bought a used KRL.... and then going on to talk about the new chest.

Sure they are, my thread title is accurate as illustrated by the pictures of the HF coupon in action, it really helped out, I saved five more HF 20% off coupons this week in case I need them.

No it wouldn't be like that all, I made no reference to HF tools and I didn't call any HF tool a ************* but any time you want my opinion on a HF tool start a new thread somewhere along these lines: "Requesting Mickey O's opinion on the new HF 53" toolbox" and I'll be happy to share my opinion.

Now, go have a look as this thread:

"Picked up a few commonly found Craftsman tools at a local sale this morning*"
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=159550

Clearly a misleading title as there are several not so common tools in the pictures, some of them even quite rare. Where were all you guys that are concerned about this thread title being misleading (even though it's factual) when that one is clearly misleading? You guys must have been as outraged as you are in this case, maybe even more outraged as I'm sure many people opened that thread expecting to see commonly found Craftsman tools but were mislead. Where was your concern then?

I'm guessing you guys are not really all that concerned about people being mislead by the thread title at all, I think it must be something else.

I don't think I'd use a propane tank as an "air reserve tank" or any tank that held something flammable, an old freon tank would be better, you get a spark inside a tank that has fumes it can be real nasty.

Not being a smartass, but how exactly would a spark get inside the tank?

A spark wouldn't get inside the tank, it would be created in/by the tank. Piece of the inside of the tank rusts and breaks loose and is thrown around by the air movement rubs against the inside of the tank, a spark and BANG, a burr from when the tank was made, a chip from the compressor used to fill said tank, chances are slim but they are there. I suppose you could clean the tank out extremely well and hope for the best.

Cut the **** Mickey. Everyone even the newbies know you are trying to stir up ****. Instead of highlighting what you bought you try to ridicule HF. It shows what a small person you are. So be it.

Mickey,
I'm a newbie here and have only come across a couple of your threads with HF lead-ins and each time I found them hilarious. So much so that I looked up your past posts to read more.

I look forward to seeing more posts from you like this in the future even if I don't have exactly the same values you have. I'm sure I shop at HF more than you do and less than others posting here. My opinions aren't as strong as many posting here. I love US-made tools, prefer to buy them over chinese imports but I own both.

The main point I wanted to make here is that I respect your right to express your opinion in general and even more so because you try to do so in a humorous, entertaining fashion. I also respect you pointing out that you're not trying to stop others from buying whatever they want but expect them to respect your right to express your opinions.

This is a great country that dominated the world not only because of the great tools and products we've made but also because of our great ideas. Chief among these great ideas is each person's right to express their opinion. Lately that seems to be out of favor with people taking sides on opinions and polarizing their arguments. The US will truly be done for when we can no longer tolerate opinions we don't agree with.

Thanks again for your skill in expressing your opinions in an entertaining and humorous fashion, and of course for showing all those cool tool finds.

Precisely - I think everyone can see through it whether you think it's funny or not. Based on your handle you should get this analogy - I have about $25k worth of canon L lenses and bodies. If I started a thread on a photo forum "Promaster 20% off sale pulls through again" people would be annoyed with me and rightly so. Once or twice is comical, but its a constant slam and like you said it shows what kind of person he is - Mickey, don't be ashamed - you can't come online and be a basher/hater and then play timid. Just come all out with it.

Take this forum or any other with a grain of salt guys. Nobody is going to agree with anybody else on all points. The best you can hope for is to learn something or see something that is not common in your area.

All the bickering in the world will not change any of us from what we are. Learn to accept or ignore and life is much smoother guys.

And NWphotog I prefer my tool buys to be at least 80 years in age, all that newfangled stuff Mickey posts is just too shiny. Different ideas can coexist without silly battles!

Why do people let themselves get all twisted up over this?

I agree completely GM and that is why I think Mickey O. gving others the finger is disruptive. He could just say look at the nice tools I bought but instead feels the need to stir up you know what. As long as he keeps doing that others are going to complain about it . Ultimately that is probably what he wants. In a sick way feeds his ego. So be it.

Good question.

I thought it was funny. I think the outrage/anger/******* and moaning is even funnier.

I hang out here and watch the interactions/drama - like reality TV. I came here for the storage ideas and stayed for the people.

Mickey, I like the old-school portable charging system tester. Does anyone know anything about them, when (if) they stopped making them? I have a "pen" style with LEDs, I got it about twenty years ago.

Off topic:
NWphotog, I've been meaning to ask you, where did you get that silly picture of the yawning bear on the rock? That thing is hilarious!

I don't think anyone is making much for analog gauges these days.

If this type of thread is OK with the Admins and Moderators then I'll stay out of all future threads like this.

I'm sure Mickey will miss me though.

Well, I just asked a question; I didn't speak for anyone.

He's showing off tools that he bought. He buys a Hell of a lot of them. Seems some people don't like his brand of humor. I'd suggest ignoring him as an option.

It's not like the thread titles or stories about HF coupons are personally insulting to anyone here...and it also seems like people who don't like what he writes, keep reading what he writes....

Can't help you on the date, but I'm kicking myself for not buying the one that hit the classifieds <6 mos ago. If I was guessing... 60's-70's, it's amazing how much of that stuff is still around in Mickeyland (Chicago area).

Yea I think I recall seeing what you're talking about a few months ago. I do remember it was a smaller one though that would hold sizes from 5/16 to 3/4 or something like that.

I like the one mickey posted up which obviously holds more sizes of wrenches.

Apparentley Sears offered different models.

I'll keep my eye open a bit more, but simply don't have the time to spend hunting as Mickey seems to have

Best I can tell, late 40's to mid/late 50's, and I believe there were 4 versions, double open end wrenches, combination wrenches and 2 double box wrench versions, a large and small, not sure if they ever had metric version (slim chance, if they did I want them) or possibly ones for the Whitworth wrenches (doubtful).
