I've been by 99 Blues a thousand times, and have yet to stop in.

Going to make a point of it now. Beer and Blues, doesn't get much better than that.

I think I'm on the mend now, and hoping to design and install arms for the chair yet this weekend.

Finish dried quickly in the sun and light breeze.

Was able to re-assemble.

Just not quite dry enough to sit in, under my tree.

I hauled this ornamental cherry tree home a couple years ago.

I had an excavator place it in my truck, then I somehow managed to get it placed by myself, with come-a-longs.

I kinda topped it, as the tops of the branches were clipping a few telephone wires on the way home.

One of the few landscaping type projects I'm actually proud of.

Time to put tables and chairs, vises and grinders away for awhile.

It's boating season!

De-winterized the boat, cleaned and vacuumed, washed and washed.

Ready for some warmer weather now.

I even had a little help

Yes, Romeo is our boat dog.

And this is Bo. He's a truck dog.

This dog lives to be in the truck. He'll hang out there all day, sleeping on my toolbox.

I used to come out of a store, like HD, and he'd be up on my roof.

He's 15 now and doesn't get out much anymore. Can't jump into or out of the truck.

My neighbor and a friend of his just got lab pups from the same litter.

They are the roughhouse boys.

Bo sees them coming and goes into the other room and hides.

There ain't much puppy left in this old boy.


I was finishing up my new C-man vise, and realized my woodworking vise is from the same era. Notice the font, and the deco << marks.
They make for a nice pair.

I also finished up the C-man block I picked up last week.

Never thought of myself a Craftsman fan boy, but they were too good to pass up.

Very nice. I need to find a big bench vise like that. I have 2 of the craftsman grinders now (did you see the NIB one I picked up for cheap ?). I still haven't mounted my woodworking vise to my bench, I just grab clamps.

The woodworking vise is in the way as much as it is useful. It's not on a dedicated woodworking bench, and I end up working around it more times than not.

I'm home today, with a crew down in my basement coring holes and taking soil samples.

I'm having a fuel tank removed from my yard. The tank was about 2' away from the foundation, and the Pollution Liability Insurance Agency wanted some additional testing.

The samples will go to a testing lab, but initial indicators are coming back negative. Which is really positive for me.

The thought of removing soils from underneath my house kinda scares the **** out of me.

I don't have any available bench top space to dedicate to the new Craftsman vise, so I've been pondering a way to employ it.

I already have my main bench vise mounted securely to a bench, which is attached to the wall and floor. Very sturdy.

I also have my new Yost vise mounted on my welding table. Good for light duty, limited because the table is on wheels.

I wanted something that I could easily take outside, and move around.

I was wondering the golden halls of HF, and saw a stand for their pneumatic planishing hammer. $37.00 less the 20% coupon that rides in my wallet.

I will say, it is a piece of ****. I had to abandon the nuts and bolts altogether, and ended up welding it.

Said and done though, I think I'll get some good use out of it.

Looking to add some more utility to it, just not sure what that will look like yet.

Some years the blossoms get hammered by the rain, and we don't really get to enjoy them. This year the weather cooperated, and it was beautiful.

As you can see in the last two pics, the lawn (by lawn I mean moss and dandelions) is covered with the pedals.

Today's efforts have been a waste.

I brought home some ugly paper wall sconces from a demo, thinking I could use the fixture parts, and re-clad them with some metal.

I measured, planned, laid it all out. Cut the sheet, drilled the holes and started bending the zinc around the wire frame.

When I went to use the dimple dies, I realized I got my holes too close to the folded tabs. The dies don't fit.

I either need to take it all apart, and partially remove the tabs, or start over with a clean sheet. Or just say screw it

Had a slow Sunday afternoon, so I tore the sconce apart, and re-did it.

since sconces must come in pairs, I made a second one as well.

I had to piece them together with smaller pieces, instead of one single sheet.

I thought I'd hold off drilling and dimpling until they were assembled.

I really don't want a hole that will shine the light bulb in your eye.

Still thinking about how I want to finish them, but I got them this far.

Old school louvers would be cool too, may be harder to fit in with the other furnishings though. Dimples should be great!

Guess I'll have to live with them for awhile, to figure out just what I want to do to them next.

I've been tripping over my anvil for years, and then reading thru the "Show me your ANVIL" thread got me all inspired to finally give it a proper stand.

Went thru the firewood pile and came up with some 4x12 material. I had some malleable iron washers and square nuts left over from the last job.

Too bad my scrap pile of all thread yielded pieces that are about 1/2" short.
The nuts grab, but barely.

Oops- looked like a juvenile bear skull at first glance.

The anvil stand looks great- if the too-short all-thread bugs you (it would me...) you could always weld a couple of shorter pieces together, the welds would be hidden inside the beams. It would be plenty strong for this application.

Ya, the all thread will have to get replaced.

I should be able to pilfer some from work.

Plumbers, electricians and the HVAC/hood guys always seem to leave me a nice pile on every job.

Doesn't seem to be enough time around here lately.

Started a new job site, and it's a little further from home than I like.

Kinda cuts into my time. At least it's a little one that shouldn't take too long.

Tonight I was thinking about how to fasten the anvil to the stump.

Started cutting and fitting some 1/4" steel and welded up these brackets.

I used 12" Timberlock screws. We'll see if it holds up.

Moar pix and info plz!!! 1/4" plate? Welded and smoothed? I'm on my phone so I can't see clearly but it's appears pretty cool. I've been holding out on securing my anvil to the stump cause I couldn't think of an aesthetically pleasing way.

I just got it spot tacked right now, with a bunch more tacks on the underside.

The anvil is rough, hand forged kind of a hunk. Nothing is very symmetrical on it. I had to do a fair bit of grinding and shaping the plate to fit, but it makes contact with the anvil enough that it holds down tight.

I used 1/8" for the small strip at the bottom.

So I bought a duo of 26gallon air compressors one working one not. The non working one was placed under a cover in my parents back yard (just married, waiting to graduate and buy a place w/ a garage etc etc)

So I instantly know what I am going to do with the broken one once I laid eyes on your amazing little fire pit, but now that I am thinking about it I don't remember seeing it back there last time I stopped by.

Sure enough, my mother threw it away!! NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!



Anyway keep up the amazing work, this thread is pure eyecandy!
