Best of luck to you.
I packed up on a whim and moved 700 miles south, in 2004 I moved from Chicago to Chattanooga to pursue my career. That didnt work out but the rest of the story turned into a dream life. No regrets at all.

Riv, good luck on the job search whenever you chose to start it. Hopefully you take a break before starting. I was wondering about your commute when you moved farther north. Sounds like you had a tough one.

I almost turned down this last project, which was 85 miles from the new house.
mostly, I stayed in Shoreline as the commute was doable. The house was basically empty, so it’s been like camping for the last 7 months.
it was getting really old.
But, it was too good of a project to turn down.
stashing away what I made helped put us in a position to quit comfortably.
plan is to take most of what’s left of the summer off, and hit it hard again in the fall.

Trailer wiring woes.
completely cleaned all the wire connections inside, and all the blades. On the trailer and the truck.
still have dim taillights. They are new LEDs, but you can barely see them. Going back out to start checking all the ground connections.

Got a little road trip with the main boat coming up, and decided to do a little more trailer maintenance.
All lights are functioning as they should.
Today I added a new wench strap, a new bow chain, and a pair of self-retracting transom tiedowns.
Then, while greasing the bearing buddies, I found a bubble in the sidewall of a tire. Dang it!
I do have one other issue that I know nothing about. Usually, my truck recognizes that a trailer is attached. It’s not working. All I get on the dash is a pop up that says “ Trailer Disconnected”
Any ideas?

Tie Down Engineering. Just surge breaks.
reading up on it a bit tonight, thinking maybe the solenoid is bad, as I did have an issue backing up parking it at the end of last season.
had to use a screwdriver as a pin.
will have to look at it later this week.

I wonder if the truck needs to see an electric brake circuit to know it has a trailer behind it.

Still no idea why the truck doesn’t recognize the trailer, but I’ll figure it out later.
truck is running good, trailer is good, and the boat is running good.
I’m going with it!

Few weeks back, I helped my friend pull his boat out of his shop and put it on a trailer.
Today, he put it in the water for the first time.
All went well.
It took on a fair bit of water, which is to be expected. Once the cedar planking swells up a bit it will seal up.
2 bilge pumps kept it under control.
It was great to see an 8 year project doing what it was built for!

I had a Dan Wesson .357 I bought in 1979 when I was in college; sold it to a friend in the early 80’s. I always wished I hadn’t let it go. 15 years later I got it back in a three-way trade involving a Remington Model 700 ADL, a log splitter and a little cash.
Now if I could just track down that Remington 870 my dad gave me for graduation that I pawned for tuition ….

My last day of work was 7/31.
Almost two weeks, and today was the 1st time I got to work in the shop.
Our fishing trip, honey-do list, and fam-damily obligations have taken up all my time.
It was good to have a day to myself, and focus on the shop projects.
All of the boat are so close to completion, then it’s time to enjoy life!

Funny thing about retirement, I know you aren't retired but still, since I retired my shop time has gone down and my fam-damily duties have gone way up. I always get the since you aren't busy anymore can you come over and help me rebuild my life!

Finally got a shop day!
cut and fitted the little piece that runs up the back of the keel and transom.
Nothing like dragging out all your tools for one 12” board. White Oak, cut, shaped, sanded, drilled, and soaked with epoxy.
trimmed back all the side and bottom boards flush with the transom.
Then prepped for installing the bow board.
And, got 5 coats of varnish on the floor boards.

A late night update on the little green skiff.
I was doing the last bit of sanding on the inside of the transom, and uncovered a partial logo.
a couple google searches later, I believe I have located the original builder.
Lowell’s Boat Shop in Amesbury, Massachusetts.
Building boats since 1793, making them the oldest boat shop in the US.
I’ve sent them an email with pictures, hoping they can confirm the logo and possibly a date range.
Also found them on Instagram at lowellsboatshop
