Home Theater Update
Since I don’t have any possibility for some road trip photos in Mary Kay maybe you guys might enjoy some home theater updates as a substitute.
I‘ve posted about this before but we live in a 120, 130 year old house in Chicagos Lakeview neighborhood. Like many houses around here it was originally built as a two flat, one family on the first floor and another one the second. We converted it to a single family house years ago, doing a pretty much gut remodel including and addition to the back of the house.
But at that time we did nothing to the finished basement. During Covid we started doing some basement work. Primarily we converted our spare bedroom to an exercise room. Last fall I decided it was time to update the rest of the space Including making what was once our kids playroom a home theater. I’ve been making slow progress on it since. Here are some photos
The basement while fully finished was very out of date. The goal was to update and also to make it match the style of the the rest of the house. I hated the handrails on the stairs to I ripped them out and put these in which match the style upstairs pretty closely.

I also bought and hung three new doors. Again the goal is to match what we have on the main and second floors
Here is a view down the hall that leads from the stairs and the theater past the gum on the left, past a bathroom, and towards my workshop
The bookcase on the left is new.

The above part of the bookcase also is a secret door.

So far I’m pretty satisfied on how this has come out. The carpet is going to all be replaced so I didn’t bother trying to protect it and I ripped our parts of it when convenient. The carpet company is coming to measure tomorrow and I’ll schedule the install as soon after that as I can. I still have a few things to do before the carpet gets installed. Mostly just paint touch ups like I’ve been working on off and on today.
