In regards to reliability, perhaps considering fuel injection? There have to be a host of companies that manufacture a replacement throttle body injected setup to replace the carb and maintain the period correct look.

Awwwwww, man. You're towing her? I thought this was going to turn into an awesome drop top Cadillac road trip thread. 
Success! It was a very long day yesterday. It’s a long drive regardless but it was made longer by a pretty sketchy trailer. The trailer started to,sway on me a couple of times so I started to keep the speed no higher than 65 which Made the trip even longer. Having to keep correcting and the fact that some of the drive was on some arrow two lane roads made it even more tiring but we got to Harrisonburg last night. We dropped the car off at WW Motorcars this morning and spent the rest of the day with family. We also got a good eggs and scrapple breakfast in this morning. Will be dropping my daughter of at college tomorrow morning.

Chef, I do. I’m not sure who long they will need to work on the car But I hope to leave it here all winter. That way I can have room to park both of our dailies in the garage this winter and also have some level of good enough weather to drive it back home with the top down. In the spring. I did this once before but I would maybe try to have a two rules for the road trip: can’t drive on a highway, can’t eat at any chain restaurant. Ive already asked my son and he is up for it. As long as i can be confident that it likely would make the trip I do plan on driving it back.

I have done a long trip like that before and it was awesome. So much good country to see and great places to eat if you get off the beaten path. Gives you chance to meet people too along the way.jbrentd

That sounds pretty sweet!
I’m almost done with the patio project and should be able to finish up completely tomorrow. I went with the wife to buy some plants earlier today. Right now they are still sitting in their pots but we will actually plant them tomorrow. This is only a fraction of what we will need to fill the beds completely and most of that won’t happen until spring but we wanted to get at least a few plants in to avoid looking at dirt for the next few weeks. Our plan is to do a lot of landscaping work next spring including putting some planters in the deck, completely redoing the landscaping at the front of the house and to fill out these areas in the back yard. All in should be enough to keep us busy for awhile.

Thanks Bill. I had never had a thread on any forum before this but this has been very fun to document here. It’s nice to get positive feedback to keep up the momentum to get projects done too. Very nice.

Nice work Pickles! I've always heard it's best to get perennials and shrubs planted in the Fall anyway.
I’ve heard that too. But when we went to buy plants this fall we found limired selection and some very sad looking plants, especially at the big box stores. I’m guessing spring is a much better time to buy those plants.

Do you have a real garden center nearby? Like the pros shop at?
One of the books I read about home improvements , they always recommended getting some of plants in the ground ASAP so they have time to grow and you’re not looking at one foot tall plants for a while.
I am sure they can advise what plants will do well in your “protected” location too. And you’d probably get better quality plants too.
The big box stores have already switched gears into fall products. They want to move what they have and not get stuck with it.

This post will break absolutely no new ground. But I thought I would do a post to document the continued evolution of the garage Nonetheless. Back in post 532 I started a project to install some overhead Saber cabinets. I’ve liked them, and had some more room, so I ordered three more. These were installed along the south wall of the garage, basically along the front of where the Cadillac usually parks.
The install went a lot easier than last time. As before I put two French cleats along the wall.
The cabinets also had cleats of course.
All f the cleats were 2 by 4 or 2 by 6 studs milled down to about 3/4 of an inch thick. The cleats can hold up the cabinets but I mostly used them to help with the install. Each cabinet is screwed to the cleats and also anchored through the cleat into the concrete block wall with a half inch masonry anchor.
Here is the final install.

I'm curious how close to the wall (or edge of slab) you were able to put that lift. It looks like the base plate is right against the block wall but the photos may not give the right perspective.

HPR, I will check for sure tomorrow but I believe it’s six inches. There was a recommendation with regards to a minimum distance from the edge of the concrete and I remember going with what the manufacturer specified and I believe it was six inches.
HPR, I realized that I never responded to your question. Please see attached. The edge of the list itself is five inches from the edge of the concrete but the closest concrete anchor is six inches away.

It’s been a little while since my last update. Truth is that I have not spent much time in the garage in the last few weeks. Instead I’ve been busy with some house related projects. This includes starting a DIY home theater in the basement which I think is going to take most of my free time this winter.
I have been continuing to buy some more Sonic tool trays and I’ve gotten to the point now where my two tool cabinets under my work bench are largely full.
I have also purchased some Milwaukee cordless tools as well. In the last number of years I’ve usually bought Dewalt tools and I already had things like drills and drivers but I got tired of walking between the garage and the basement shop to get them all the time. I also I decided to purchase a cordless grinder (I did have a corded one already) and a electric wrench (never did have one of those). All that stuff was taking up more precious drawer space so this weekend I decided to build a wall hanging cabinet to store it all. I put this together.
The style is meant to match the cabinet I built on the other side of the bench a few weeks back and also,to echo the work bench top I made months ago. Material is mostly maple that was left over when I made the bench top. I ran out of maple however so I built the center out of walnut instead.

Very nice shelves for the red tools. Using the scrap for small shelves like that are always useful.
I know the feeling about working outside and having to return to the basement for more tools.
Just a thought, but consider a timer for the cordless battery chargers. You don’t want to cook the batteries or something worse. I think my M12 batteries take roughly an hour to charge. I do not remember if you installed a monitoring system in The garage.
Are you planning on trimming the window with matching material?

Not going to put insulation in the ceiling part of your little corner? It came out very nice, something you can be very proud of.
Xtremek, Plan is to eventually spray foam the entire ceiling with insulation, including the ceiling of my bump out.
Captain, I will trim out the window eventually. I was planning on just doing it with pine but matching the other wood in an interesting, if a little expensive, idea. I’ll also post up some home theater pics too if anybody might find that interesting.

They just started working on her. I got my first update last week. They did a compression test of the engine (which came out fine), replaced spark plugs, changed the oil and coolant and have fixed some vacuum leaks. They also looked into the power steering leak. Finally they strongly recommended that we convert the front brakes to disks. I told them that the car already had disc brakes in front. I'm going to feel like a real idiot if I'm wrong about that. In my defense its been years since I've taken the front wheels off of the car.
