Recently bought myself the M12 right angle die grinder … was using a wire wheel and it seemed like the tool would stop motion with surprisingly little load applied to it.

What battery? Seems like the M12 batteries overheat with the high draw M12 tools.

I always use my M12 RA with a 6.0 and I've never had problems but I've never put a 3" wire wheel on it either. I did put a 3" cutoff wheel on it once and it worked like a champ but it wasn't a very heavy duty cut.

What size wire wheel?

Anything 3" or larger and with pressure mine slows down.

You're not in one of the lower speed settings, are you?

  • Wire wheel was probably 2" dia, I needed a fairly small one for the tight spaces working around lug studs.
  • It doesn't slow down, it just stops and needs to be restarted.
  • Tested on all speeds and it exhibited the exact same symptoms regardless of speed.
  • Tested with XC4.0 and XC5.0 High Output and it exhibited the exact same symptoms regardless of battery.
  • One battery was 50-66% capacity, the other was 90%+ capacity.
  • Did not use long enough for this to overheat. It was stopping due to me applying pressure.

So, best to pursue replacement via Home Depot or directly thru Milwaukee?

Home depot would be faster I would think but Milwaukee has always taken care of me the few times I've needed stuff to be replaced under warranty. If HD won't let you exchange then call Milwaukee.

I did see the backpack blower, and I was like YASSSS. Finally. Looked at the specs...
Same as my dual handheld....

So the gasser still remains for backpack fall cleanups, which in 30 days out from this posting, things will start dropping

How are the Milwaukee inspection cameras? Looking at the Milwaukee 2324-21 M12 M-Spector 360 10 ft. camera to get some extra length for walls and plumbing drains and comparing to the Milwaukee 2316-21 M12 M-Spector Flex 9 Ft Inspection Camera Cable Kit and Rigid micro CA-150/ CA-350 that will need the 37113 6' Cable Universal Extension.

Guess they didn't take our bandolier idea, but they did acknowledge that you need to carry some extra packs around to keep working....

Maybe I've hit the Milwaukee Plateau.
On the latest pipeline, I don't see anything of immediate needs/want/splurge

I have been in a sort of plateau as well admittedly, but looks like they have the cultivator I was looking for.

I guess they couldn't figure out how to make the telescoping stuff quik-lok compatible

Well.....I did see a new cutoff , sigh, but then saw it was MX platform....

I wouldn't have mind seeing a backpack battery back.
Now my Dual M18 blower hasn't gotten hot and thermal but I don't use it for heavy task and 12ah is a bit unwieldy on extended use......but hey, who knows. Maybe this backpack blower is also **built** for longer runtimes/heat

Glad to see they are still investing in the MX platform even though I have not taken the plunge yet.

Have been using my dual blower with mainly 6.0s. Running full bore have never hit the thermal cutoff even with 5.0s. Blowers in general seem to be gentle on the batteries thankfully vs the angle grinder and chain saws.

Speaking of chainsaws, I see the dual battery whacker. Surprised they don't have a bigger bar dual battery chainsaw yet.

Any input on the M18 fan? I was looking on eBay and saw a lot of broken M18 fans listed. Makes me concerned they might not be that great.

Same. Nothing to get excited over. I think some guys buy all the new stuff because they feel like they need to spend money. Although if it's a tool you do need, the best time to buy it is right away before Milwaukee slaps on a 30% price increase for no reason.

Yeah, about that...

I was is HD last week, and saw that the M18 Rover light is now up to $149!!! I've seen that price creeping up over the past few years, but considering how they routinely sell for $99 (on sale), and they were close to that price when NOT on sale just a few years ago, this makes me crazy.

The biggest complaint about the M18 fan is the external power supply. This can be modified and a few people on the board here have posted examples on how to convert the fan to having an internal converter so you can just plug the fan right into 120v. My main complaint about the fan is that it is kinda noisy by when I use it to dry stuff out, I don't care since I just walk away and I'm not in the area while it runs.

I have two, and I like them. I picked up a 3D printed bracket on Etsy to hold the wall warts. The one thing you have to be careful of, is that on low setting, if left unattended, it can drain your battery to the point where the Milwaukee chargers won't charge them. I toasted 2 5ah batteries this way.

You can jump start those batteries pretty easy using a good one. It only takes a couple of minutes.

I'm looking for something to pump up a tire in the driveway without messing with dragging out a compressor. M12 inflator, yea or nay? I already have the batteries and people seem to like it, but I thought I'd check

I have both the M12 and M18. M12 is fine for one vehicle tire or anything smaller. M18 is much faster on truck tires.

The M12 is my favorite small, lightweight and convenient air pump to top up tires or sport equipment. The M12 is easy for everyone to use and is accurate. Bought the M18 for the increased speed and power but mine has been disappointing. The M18 pumps faster than the M12 but always over inflates whatever I pump. I haven’t had time to deal with the warranty so the older M12 is still my favorite and go-to air pump.

Has anyone tried the M12 stick water pump? I could see it being handy pretty often for me.

I have the M18 transfer pump and use it all the time, like it a lot, but the kind of point and pump design intrigues me.

Two weeks ago I watched an irrigation repair guy use the M12 stick pump. I didn't know that existed, but it sure seemed to work good. I could see where that could be quite handy.

I just ordered one yesterday. Home depot had a deal on it with a couple HO batteries. I also have the M18 transfer pump and I do use it a lot but I also think the stick pump will be more convenient in many cases, and somehow it's rated for even more flow.

Have had a chance to put my m12 stick pump through its paces over the last few months. Basically I use it once or twice a day to push water through a giant trash can home made filter that filters a turtle tank.

Few random comments:
  • m18 still seems to push more water despite the specs, for moving a lot of water you want the m18 or maybe a plugin transfer pump.
  • m12 is lot quieter than the m18
  • The M12 head has a lot of girth (3.5 inches) - I thought I bought it primarily for emptying 100 gallon rain barrels, but the head is too thick to get through the opening. Since its quiet it is on turtle tank duty until I figure out how to remove and maybe 3D print a new head.

@Odd-job

Thanks for the comments on the stick pump.

At 4.2 pounds about half the 7.9 for the M18 I see. For my regular uses of the M18 I have a 3 foot lead in hose on the inlet and a 10 foot on the outlet, so unwieldy at times.

Hope @GeoBruin has good luck as well.
I have a flow meter. I'm happy to do a test between both pumps to see how much water they actually move once my stick pump arrives. I only own a single m18 battery (an 8.0 I think) but I've got every m12 battery known to man so I can test whatever combo folks want to see.

That would be great. Definitely curious if reality matches my perception.

I was wondering what these Forge batteries were all about:

Uses pouch cells for more output, higher charging rates (with the super charger), longer life and more charging cycles. More than a 12.0 in output.

This is what it looks like inside:
