Just took the plunge.. or should I say Santa did.. Purchased the 2897-22 kit with the 2704-20 1/4 impact and the 2753-20 1/2 hammer drill.. M18 Fuel.. Replacing a lead sled 0522-20 Power Plus 3/8 drill purchased at the Milwaukee outlet in Brookfield in 2003ish.. refurbished. Its still going, just need more reliable power these days..

I just bought this kit and love it already.

Here is my latest score. Apparently someone had opened the miter saw box and ripped off on of the 9.0 batteries. They were out of stock on the 9.0 batteries so they did one better and gave me a 7 1/4" 9.0 kit for 49.99 to make up the price difference. I already have the fuel skill saw so this new one will be sold which should bring the cost down even further but as it is after using the one key promo I got:

The miter saw
2 9.0 batteries
2 rapid chargers
7 1/4" fuel circular saw

All for just over 500 out the door. I'm tempted to sell the miter saw as I really was only interested in the 9.0 batteries but I got such a damn good deal on all of it I may just keep it, I'm sure I'll use it some day.

For anyone interested in the lights, what you want to see if you were looking at the flood vs the search light head on?.... Anything else I should grab some footage of while I'm at it? I'll probably also show the search light lighting up a tree on an adjacent block just because it's fun.
Do you think the beam on the searchlight is focused enough and throws far enough to be effective for night time address finding? Is it focused enough to not throw huge amounts of light into people's windows? Think of what a pizza guy would need, I do a little locksmith work on the side.

I'f be happy to sell it for how often I''d use it but It's heavy and I think shipping would kill the deal. Plus I want the 9.0 batteries :) I could include near new 5.0 or 4.0 bats and a rapid charger but the 9.0's are mine.

sorry I misread your post. What do you want included in it? I have 5.0, 4.0 bats and standard and regular chargers

Well I didn't get quite as good as a deal as Evan did.. but came home today and found the M12 charger I bought off eBay on my doorstep, along with a box that said "Lithium Batteries" next to it.. looked at the box and it was from Milwaukee Tools.. opened it up, and Milwaukee sent me a free 9.0 starter kit, that included a 9.0 battery and Rapid Charger.. gotta say it, I really did not expect that..

So I have to publicly say "Thank You Milwaukee", that was a nice Christmas surprise..

So ummm, what's the price on that miter saw?? Lol

Probably because he already owns 2+ of everything in the Milwaukee catalog, but gave them **** (respectfully) for the new heated jackets.

Ha.. yes I contacted them over the numerous issues I had/have with the new jackets, explaining that I already own 3 older jackets, 2 hoodies, a bunch of tools (a lot, but definately not all - im sure there's people that have more) and that I had bought 2 of the new jackets, but had to return both since all the changes they made resulted in sizes that don't fit right anymore, and a jacket with no insulation in the arms. It's the first Milwaukee anything I've had to return since I felt the older models fit and work much better.. it made no sense to keep either since neither size even fit, and I actually use them in the cold weather and the new models aren't as warm.

Weeks later I got a message asking for my contact and shipping info. I didn't ask why, i just sent it. They told me they were sending me a battery, and this is what showed up..

I'm still trying to contact, or waiting to hear from Milwaukee over an idea I'd basically give or trade them, that I honestly believe is something they'd truly be interested it. It just makes too much sense to ignore IMO.

I just looked, the starter kit retails for $249 on the HD site.. I could actually go and exchange it for one of the 9.0 saw kits if I was that compelled. ( I already have the fuel sawzall and 6.5" circular, so it's not like I'm missing anything - and I'd feel kinda guilty doing that I think since they sent it as a free gift)

Now I'm glad I bought a second of the older jackets when they were on clearance at Home Depot this summer. I was wanting a new jacket because of the different outer material but after reading this I'm rethinking it.

I love my 7-1/4" circular saw so I'd recommend swapping the kit out while you can. Although I agree with trackwelder that I wish it was left sided 100% (they should just replace the 6-1/2" with a left sided 7-1/4")

Being new to the whole Milwaukee thing I'd appreciate some advice to get me started. The 3 tools I want to start with are a 1/2" Impact , 3/8"impact ,1/2" drill .Of course I'll need a
charger, and couple of batterys. I'd like the 2 best impacts I can get with less emphasis on the drill if it works out that way. I'm not opposed to the best drill if it works out that way either. Thanks

The 2897-22 Fuel kit is one of the most popular ways to get started although the impact is a 1/4 hex model. I have this kit and use my impact with a 3/8 socket adapter more than anything else. The Fuel drill is one of the best around and the kit comes with (2) 5.0ah batteries. Then you could just buy the 1/2 impact as a bare tool.

I also just checked.....if you add the 2897-22 kit to you cart on homedepot.com plus the 2763-20 1/2 impact bare tool you get $150 off the combo. That's just shy of $450 for the (3) M18 Fuel tools and (2) 5.0 batteries.

Then just add the 48-32-5031 3/8 adapter for $3.47 and you're all set.

Here are mine.....

Yea I like the older model a lot better.. their new jacket doesn't fit anything like the old. I bought the XL (size I have in the older models), and it's much bigger. Bought the large, and it's too small.. tried the large anyway one day, and in 50 degree weather without the heat ( should be no need for it ) and my arms were cold.. I actually took it off after 10 min and swapped it for a Carhartt hoodie. wore the old model next day with the same shirts in colder weather and I was warm. Both jackets were returned.. like you, I wanted the new material, and liked that it was all black.. oh well, maybe the next one...

OK, so what did you give yourself for Christmas or talked your family into buying for you :)

I got the 10" Miter with the two 9.0 batteries. Cannot wait to put it to use!

BTW, I would really like to have that work bench. I looked at it and it looks really nice!

My Christmas Presents to myself were all red.

Started buying myself the 7 1/2" Fuel circular saw with the 9.0 + charger. Then a week later my table saw blew the plastic angle lock (cheap old Ryobi that was submerged in a flood so was on borrowed time anyway) so I bought a new table saw and the 10" Miter saw + 2 9.0's.

Both the saws are beasts and have great battery life. The 9.0s are awesome and even work well on my impact and drill. Yes it makes them big and heavy but in a pinch for a few holes or screws it's great!

I hate you all. I really hate you all. I need to stay out of this damned thread. It keeps reminding me that I need to build up my M18 stuff, but money is tight and I can't afford it, so all I can do is window shop the pictures of the guys lucky enough to afford it.

I got the circular saw too and agree that it is a beast. Used it on the roof this summer and was impressed with the power of the Milwaukee tools overall. Starting to replace all my "cheap" Ryobi tools with red ones and have not regretted one purchase yet.

I gave the better half a M12 heated jacket for Christmas.

I bought myself an early Christmas present a month ago when they had a fuel sawzall and 9.0 battery and fast charger for $200

Yep when the 9.0's were announced I figured I'd never need that. Now I have five 9.0's LOL. One starter kit, one sawzall promo kit, one circular promo kit & the sliding miter kit. Most of those were presents to myself.

Over the last 4 weeks I bought the miter with two batteries (and a rigid stand for it), bought 4 of the compact m18 batteries, my wife a heated jacket (with free 3.0 battery rebate), the m18 radio (with free 5.0 starter kit) my brother the 26" toolbox, & the kid at work a shockwave driver kit.

Then today the Kids gave me the big shockwave 29 pc titanium drill bit set and the flashlight/knife combo kit.

I still have a couple things I want to get. I have a grinder with paddle switch that I want to replace with the slide lock and I want a 1/2 compact impact with friction ring and rubber boot.

im seriously considering exchanging my "free" 9.0 starter kit now.. im getting over the guilt.. fact is, i really dont NEED a 9.0 battery for anything - BUT i probably would not buy one again myself, so it might be better to hold onto it. im thinking of either grabbing that 7.25" saw with the 9.0 battery, but i have the 6.5" saw. im also considering the original tripd light with charger and 5.0 battery, cause i dont have that light at home - but obviously i give up the 9.0 battery..

only thing i could see myself getting later on is the string trimmer if my gas one ever died. i dunno, im gonna have to give this some thought.. suggestions??

If you plan on getting a saw or one of the outdoor implements, I'd keep it. If you see yourself not getting any of those, then I'd trade/sell it.

Honestly, if there isn't a time limit on trading it in, then I'd keep it until you desperately needed something, or you decided you want to keep it and use it. Why rush the decision now if you don't have to?

If you have to rush the decision, why not upgrade to the 7.25" saw and sell your 6.5" saw?

Thanks for the help. I'm going to ask a question that may get me flamed but here goes. What does Milwaukee have over Dewalt? Is it a Ford vs Chevy type thing? Or is Milwaukee better or more diverse? I have both in corded tools but Makita, Porter-Cable and Hitachi in cordless. It's time to retire every thing but the Hitachi Impact which is only a couple of years old and is a pretty nice tool but unfortunately limited in companion tools. The one thing that has me kinda on the fence is 2 vs 3 power settings on the Milwaukee vs Dewalt 1/2" impacts. Feel free to enlighten me.

@i4ni: Both companies make very good tools and you can argue all day long about the tools.
Personally I feel Milwaukee have a lead on the brushless cordless gear (Fuel) and keep in mind that once you commit on cordless tools it would be tough to switch as the batteries are a rather big investment.

milwaukee gen1 fuel drill/impact driver kit - 2 batteries, (NEW) $249, free shipping. this is the same price as a refurb kit at cpo right now.
there is not a huge difference between the gen 1 and gen 2.. gen2 is a little smaller, maybe slightly more torque, but this is $150 cheaper i think.

http://www.acmetools.com/shop/tools...Y_xnaMhq8Gzamxq49BfR77UTPaI5eD2j_8aAiGT8P8HAQ

I noticed the gen 1 has 4.0 batteries. I think the price works out the same if $200 is a good price on the 1/2".

Right on. I'm leaning Milwaukee but a little hesitant because of 2 vs 3 speeds on the 1/2 impacts. I guess I could wait and see if Milwaukee upgrades to 3 speeds here before long.
