How F'in stupid.

So the new batteries are designed to be charged in the device. The battery cant be charged outside of device without the special charger adapter which does not come with the kit. Charger is $25 or $40 with a spare battery.....

Doesn't look like its adaptable from this video :dunno:

The format looks quite close to the basically defunct Ryobi 4Tek battery....Im wondering if they could somehow be interchangeable.

And on the subject....its ashame they havent furthered that format, its great for little tools. The laser distance measurer is spectacular, was cheap AND rechargeable (a lot of the current Bosch ones are not quite as nice, for 3x the price, and use standard replaceable batteries)

Just found there is a 2nd headlamp being released powered by 3xAAA batteries. 25/150/300 lumens only though, model 2106. Also a penlight 100 lumen powered by 2xAAA, model 2105. Geez

I bought one of their knives. It advertised one hand opening. I"m not a knife guy, but I have not found a motion that gets the f-er opened with one hand. Any tips?:headscrat
Hit the button and whip it. Mine is still a lil new but every few tries I can get it in one swift motion.

The batteries can be charged in the device or out of the device. They use a micro-usb charger for both.

I just lobbed a low ball offer on eBay for an M12 underhood light. *fingers crossed* If I get it I'll collect a few more underhood lights and give it a solid going over with a lot of testing like I did with the M18 worklight.

Doh! Got turned down at 145$ shipped.

Bare Tool. I saw a bunch of them sold for 135$ with 20$ shipping on eBay, so I went for 145$ with free shipping. Seemed like a decent deal.

I dunno if $20 will make or break the deal for you but FB Nick has the bare tool @ $165 free shipping :dunno:

Be interesting to see actual comparisons for sure.

Yea Milwaukee is realeasing 2 different headlamps. One is a headlamp, the other is the "hardhat light"

Ohio power tool emailed saying they ship late September. I sent a response saying it woulda been nice to include that info in the item description like Milwaukee's other stuff..

As far as that dual pack tower light goes. - if you're willing to spend the $600 of the light with no batteries, spend the $700 instead and get a Pelican model.. just my opinion..

Just picked up the M12/M18 Jobsite speaker last week, and I love it! Even though a lot of reviews complained about a lack of bass, I brought it to a cookout and everyone immediately said it had nice bass for a small system.

Hopefully adding an M12 heated jacket soon, and a 2nd gen M12 impact driver this winter.

The fastback?

Just hold the button and flick your wrist. They open and close easy-peasy. Its all in the wrist. With practice it will come. Great knives by the way. Easy to open with gloves on too.

Does anyone out there know if a rubber boot is available for M12 ratchets?

There are boots on Home Depots website for the new Fuel models. I have no idea if they fit the non-Fuel variety. If it turns out they do I'm certainly buying them.

I wish they made one for the 1/4" impact also.

Snap-on boot fits perfect as discussed here many times before. Part # YA905 lists for $5.20. Here's mine. 09ae14c0fd87ffbf66042c392af687ae.jpg

I have the m12.. it's "ok".. not very powerful, but for small stuff it's great.. it actually worked pretty good for me with a wire brush wheel cleaning up some stuff on my old truck before I painted the frame and axle.

It's admittedly not one of their more impressive offerings, but it does what you need it to. For small holes it will be fine. It's definitely one of those, "if it saves me once or twice, it was worth it" tools. It's not expensive, so it's not like your tossing out $300 and expecting it to change your life. As a bare tool purchase , even a refurb, IMO it's worth having for when you can use it.

I'm sure the m18 is a nice step up in power, but I don't own it so I'm just guessing.

I've never seen those before. The Milwaukee boots cover a bit lower than that but it looks great for the price. Thanks!

Another question, what have you guys found as the best all around work light? For under the hood, in the cabinet, in a dark corner etc

I didn't know Milwaukee makes the last Jedi's light saber.

It's not Milwaukee. It's the infamous HF underhood light. I ran and grabbed it before they closed tonight. It's... pretty odd. The ends are kinda cool though. I think it's going to be a terrible underhood light though. :p

Well, I want to say the Astro 40SL, but the dial absolutely bugs the **** out of me. I actually threw mine while working under a car the other night because I just couldn't handle it going off again while I was trying to fit this stupid starter motor into place.

So, I would probably say the M12 stick is the best all arounder work light. Good beam size, great color, useful hanging hook, good form factor.

If we're just talking Milwaukee, the single most versatile light is probably the m18 stick light. its not "perfect" for everything, but IMO, if you can only have one, it's probably the most versatile. It's on the smaller side, portable, it's pretty bright, can stand on its base (the battery) and has an articulating head to aim the light, comes with 2 hooks to hang it from.. you can lay it on its side, make it hang down from one of the hooks... my feeling is it offers the most universal fit of all the lights. Keep in mind, a few years ago the only real lights available were those pistol grip style flashlights that came in cordless tool kits, so everyone got by with those. The m18 stick light is a big improvement of that, and it's pretty cheap considering its not a speciality light. Prob the next choice would be the lantern..

Everyone will have a different opinion on this I'm sure.

Outside Milwaukee I'd say the small cordless Neiko that like $35..

The m12 has an optional magnet you can buy for it to help with mounting options.. it's not cheap, and honestly I've never been able to get my m12 to shine exactly where I wanted..

My PERSONAL opinion is that it shines as a hand held inspection light, but it's kinda tough to use as a dedicated work light.. that's only my experience with it. Other people may swear by it.

All the Milwaukee deals at Home Depot btw - http://www.homedepot.com/b/Special-Values-Promotions/Milwaukee/N-5yc1vZc3zwZzv?Nao=96&Ns=None

2 of the main items on my Milwaukee Wanted List are the M18 Lantern and the M12 underhood light. I really need to just stop wanting and pull the trigger.

I did finally join Nick's Facebook group so that I'm sure will help.

Nonetheless let us know how it's working out. I just bought the Milwaukee M12 underhood light and wished they came out with it 5 years ago.

If I had the M18, I'd probably be recomending the M18. I don't think you can go wrong with either stick light though. Milwaukee did it right with them.

Nonetheless let us know how it's working out. I just bought the Milwaukee M12 underhood light and wished they came out with it 5 years ago.

I'm gonna try to buy the Milwaukee as well if I can find a deal somewhere. Probably try to get atleast the Neiko/Capri Tools if I can, and maybe the new Astro light to make up the field for a shootout video.

I can already tell this HF is going to be... near the back of the class matching KCTyphoon's samples. It's an odd light. I do like the ends though, they're pretty cool. I just grabbed the 9$ Aldi LED handheld drop light, and I'm 99% sure that it is brighter than the HF underhood light both on high.

You can always make yourself a frankenlight.I think I have around 8 bucks and my old brushed drill that I dropped off of a roof into this one. its not very adjustable, but it was fun to build, very bright, and works good enough for what I need it for.

Yep, I agree with what you said. I picked it up cheap and it has really came in handy a few times when drilling in tight spots. Not a lot of power, but it hasn't failed me yet. If I were to do it over again, I'd see what they offer in the M18 line for added power.

I have the 12v RA and have very happy it with considering I only paid $40 for it new of Amazon. For quite a while there they were part of numerous free tool offers too. It can easily bore a decent sized hole in softwoods. I have done 1-1/4 (although I think they call out 1" for max) thru dimensional lumber using a spade bit without stalling. It also was just what I needed when I had to drill a couple of holes to attach a 7 pin plug mounting plate to the side of my receiver hitch plate. Ithink 3/8" is called out for max in metal drilling.

It also can set screws and the electronic clutch is nice. No problem driving 2 1/2" screws into 2x pine.

The 18 will be a bot larger overall and the battery configuration wont be as streamline as a M12 compact battery but it has slightly higher rpm and torque plus two speed settings.

Personally I have been waiting on FUEL update for that one but nothing so far.

Let no one think either of these tools are Hole Hawg equivalents
Wont be roughing in a house full of wiring and plumbing with them or cutting holes in steel plate either but I do think either one can easily find their place whether in a Mechanics tool box or for numerous building trades chores. :D

The M12 rover is my new fav and really does a great job of lighting up a larger area, Very compact and is bright. The newly released M18 may even be more useful with it articulating head though. I hung my Rover under the hood of my SUV with a hook I fabricated and it was pretty awesome lighting.

I have used both stick lights had the m12 first like KC said is pretty much a handheld inspection light sans the magnet to hold it. It still does have a sliding hook though. I really, really like the tru view light spectrum of that light. It does define colors especially reds amazingly well. just one lumen setting 200 I think. These were once free tool offers for a long time too.

The M18 stick stands on own head swivels I only recently got one myself on a sale. The two settings fall on either side of the M12 one is higher the other a bit lower. Has two hooks for hanging too.

I have the M18 right angle drill. It is massive, Really bulky. Maybe useful with a short bit. I'd recommend a 90 degree adapter on a stock drill for occasional use. Will be lower profile. Or maybe the M12.

I must be a light junky because I have a bunch and use them all. My M12 stick is small and provides good light for its size but does not articulate so positioning it is not ideal. Carrying it is great. My M18 articulating stick light gets a lot of use since I can stand it up and bend it. I like my M18 6 sided rover -- provides a lot of light across a big area. I have the M18 tower light and use that all the time in the garage since it is height and angle adjustable and provides a lot of light. Great for under the car when it is on the lift.

I would still like to get the M12 underhood light once bare tool prices are reasonable. And I will get a headlamp light. Have not tried the M12 rover -- not sure I need one given all my other lights. I do have the M12 spotlight and that is great as a powerful flashlight.

I think I'm going to go with the 2361 M18 rover, I feel it suits my work best, that paired with the M18 Stick Light should cover the bulk of my lighting needs. That'll surpass my current setup my light years.. lol
