Everytime I think about it I get more pissed. With clamp on bottom even if one sided, if swivel was on top then it can be used 360° on X and Y axis. WTF were they thinking having it swivel from bottom.

Total bummer on the new M18 Rover. Really looked to be practical and versatile

...they weren't

So there's no good way to rig it up on the hood to shine down on the engine bay? That's really wanted to use it for, for that M18 underhood light action :D

You could clamp or mag to outside of hood and maybe swivel face into engine bay but then risk scratching the hood as the mags are so freaking strong. Clamping inside hood on top or side wont work cause the face will only swivel shine outside. If theres a flat spot inside hood you could mag it.

But any time you want to clamp it, if to metal, the mags are right there too. Where with the dual way M12 clamp the mags are not there when you clamp facing down.

Thanks for that. Yeah if I had to clamp it to the hood I was thinking of putting a towel in between to protect the paint.

I have underhood, but M18 rover $99 vs $199 underhood, Rover more lumens, plus Rover if it was designed right could be more versatile for car work, plus every other possible application.

Why not just get the underhood light for under your hood?

My 2861 mid torq arrived yesterday from Tool Nut. $189 no tax, no shipping. Acme wanted shipping so this was a better deal. If it warms up a little more I am headed to the shop to play.

Is this the shop vac or the smaller handheld dustbuster looking thingy? How did it prove itself? Been looking at getting the wet vac for a while now.

Mid-torque noob here.

Will that reliably handle lug nuts?

Not just changing wheels on your track car that are swapped out 8 times per year and gently torqued to 80 lb-ft, but also truck lugs that live in the rust belt and haven't been off in three years.
I've had my M18 Fuel 3/8 impact for a few years now (it's the 200 ft-lbs version; I believe the new ones are 210 or 220 ft-lbs). This thing removes surprisingly tight nuts and bolts...lug nuts, suspension bolts, strut top nuts, axle nuts (not rusted), etc. Things it hasn't removed in my experience are:

A couple lug nuts recently that were seized. Had to get out the breaker bar and break the stud in order to remove the lug nut...
I think it wouldn't get a rear diff bolt once upon a time.

Also, the mid torque setting on the 3/8 impact is perfect for putting on lug nuts. Tightens them to around 50 ft-lbs, and then I hit them with the torque wrench.

I would think the 3/8" would have no issue even with over-torqued, rusted lug nuts, but YMMV.

Now, the mid torque 1/2" M18 fuel impact should take car of 100% of the nuts/bolts on your rusty car, provided you can fit it into the space. The advantages of the 3/8's impact are the smaller size and lower cost...but if you don't want to worry about power and don't have space concerns, go for the 1/2" mid torque.

I think the high torque one is most likely unnecessary unless you are working on heavy machinery like farm equipment, semi's, etc.

I picked up some new toys this week :) The Milwaukee reps were at my local Home Depot this week and had an extra 10% any of the Milwaukee deals. I picked up the M12 Fuel hammer drill/impact combo, with a free M12 3/8 ratchet for $180, and the reps also gave me a free t-shirt and tool bag :nerd: My collection of red is expanding:

I was originally planning on selling the M12 fuel impact and then buying the M18 Fuel drill/impact combo because it is nice to have two drills when wood working. However, I already used the M12 fuel drill and impact for putting up garage shelving, and that little M12 impact has a ton of power! I think I'm going to hold off on the M18 Fuel kit... I almost feel silly that I was wanting the M18 Fuel line (at least for me as a casual home DIY'er) after using the M12 Fuel stuff.

Here's the finished product:

I've only briefly tested the M12 3/8 ratchet, but really looking forward to using that more. My M18 3/8 impact has been one of my favorite tools, and the power ratchet will be similar, but fit into a lot more spaces.

I was going to order one of the 3 pc set but it’s gone now. Searching all over the 3 pc sets are all sold out and if you do find them it’s $279. I did find on toolbarn they have each piece on sale and if you order one of each, it comes to $199 so I ordered from them.

The impact will do everything the drill does, so no need for dumping it IMO. I honestly use the impact for just about everything, hardly use the drill.

Im with you on holding out on M18 line. I started there before the M12, and if I could do it again, Id go with M12 first. Definitely more than enough for the homeowner/DIYer.

On the 3/8" ratchet, you mentioned it would be similar to the 3/8" impact. Hope you werent referring to power lol

I'm thinking it should handle most light trucks even if you have to give it a little workout. Some are so afraid to hammer away with these tools. I don't have that new one at least not yet but I have both a compact and the Gen 1 High Torque. The compact is definitely NOT enough for old rusty truck lugs on any reliable basis and all though the 2763 does it effortlessly it is somewhat overkill IMO

Chopped up the pegboard from my 60” and wall mounted.

Don’t ask why but I’ve always wanted to have my filter wrenches in one spot on the wall - NEAR my lift. That’s all I plan to hang here

If anyone wants the CSPS tracks/slides PM me

Ignore the Hitachi saw, but I finally replaced my M12 impact that was stolen from my work truck a few months back with the M12 Fuel impact. Seems pretty impressive from just the little bit that I've used it since I got it back home. Turns out it's cheaper to buy another tool than it would have been to purchase a battery and charger for the drill from my last combo pack, which is alright with me :^)

Look for the 3 piece Packout kit on HD's website. If it will let you order online, for in store pickup, then they have to let you pick it up, Black Friday rules notwithstanding.

EDIT: Not showing on HD's website anymore. Dirty bastards.

Yeah, that’s what I found out, they pulled it from the website earlier this week.

Ha cordless heat gun earned its keep for me already. We had a cold snap down almost into the single numbers last night plus the wind chill factor and when I went to get water for my greenhouse plants today NOTHING the spigot was frozen,...couldn't even turn the handle. Took care of this in less time than it would have to run out a stupid extension cord, I love cordless tools! :D

BTW used my 2731 extensively the other day trimmed studs and cut plywood like hot knife thru butter while framing out two new oversized doors for one of the greenhouse so my boss can get all his big tractors inside for winter storage. Ran the 9.0 too and only used one bar! Cut out all the old door framing and some studs with the original M12 hackzall too using 4.0 XC..all I really needed there especially on ladder. Again NO CORDS.

I was kind of concerned about the batteries with that deep cold though so I unloaded everything into the garage last night but they spent two days and a night in the 20's in the back of vehicle seemed to be no problems.

I built this for my cordless tools. It is mounted in my old craftman box. The old porter-cable 19.2 has been a horse for power. But I do like the new fuel's as they are much lighter.

Honestly the sheet metal "holsters" Milwaukee provides in their cabinets do work surprisingly well.

I thought it a bit gimmicky at first but have been using it and kinda like it

So how is the Packout combo $100 better than the Ridgid which goes on for $98 every BF - - and is in the HD BF ad again? I guess just 'cause of more potential modularity, ie a greater variety of Milwaukee-branded things that'll clip in?

I've got the Ridgid and love it.

Used the M12 fuel stuff on more garage shelving... The impact drove the 5/8" structural screws (lag bolt alternative) with just a tiny pilot hole with no issues!

uv2V3je.jpg

Also saw these at home depot... I've been wanting magnetic screwdrivers, these are down to $20, and they are Milwaukee. Anyone tried them?

Why not just grab a magnetizer and use your current ones?
