FancyLearnin, where did you get the KTC stuff?

I got the KTC stuff with my Nepros order. I picked out what I wanted from the KTC catalog (which they had previously mailed to me), then I emailed the Nepros folks and asked them for a quote. They gave me a quote and told me to place a "phantom" order (say 10 of the 1/4" breaker bars). The phantom order is just to make a price total that is equivalent to the KTC tools you are quoted. When you place the order on Nepros.net you then email them and they know from your previous emails that the 10 breakers bars you ordered are really the KTC tools from your quote.

Just FYI, if you go to the Japanese KTC site and convert their Yen prices to dollars, you end up paying about 48% of that. For example, say there is a tool for 100Y (there isn't, but go with me...)

100Y = $1.25 (give or take) your price would be approx. $0.60.

On this place I have to mention enormous professionalism and will to help and solve problems! In one occasion they took blame for mistake that they didn't do.Actually mistake was made by my bank office.
Great people to deal with!

Awesome tools, FancyLearnin and Lone_Wolf !

Some pages ago, I posted a car tool kit that was supplied to Infiniti President. Well, here's another photo, only this one was taken by yours truly at the KTC museum in Kyoto :D I'll write up a report in the near future.

This was during the "Mirror Tools" era of KTC, in the early 90's.

The current Nissan Skyline comes with a Snap-on tool kit....somehow....

Sorry for the poor image quality. :p

Are their ratchet heads quick release? Looks like there is a button but I couldn't find it specifically anywhere mentioned.

Sad to see they skip so many sizes in their sockets. And how come there are no quick release extensions.....????

All the tear drop head ratchets are quick release, the 3/8" round head is not.

Nepros is generally targeted for the Japanese market and include the most common sizes used in Japanese vehicles. I filled in the gaps with singles...

That's exactly what I did. And for the few that weren't available as singles, I filled in gaps with KTC (well for the metric ones anyway).

As I alluded in my previous post here....3 months ago , I visited the KTC Monozukuri museum. I started a thread about my trip and I posted a bunch of photos there: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=163056

Here's two pictures that belong to the Nepros thread :D

Yeah, sorry, my photos are not that exciting. ....but I figured we've had a lot of great pictures posted here already.

During my factory tour, I saw Nepros tools being made at different stages of production. Let me just say that I was impressed at how the tools were treated. In between the different production stages, the tools were neatly stacked/spaced/categorized and transported between the different facilities. I saw broached sockets that needing to be machined and bare combination wrenches and ratchets before getting their surface finishing. The attention to care and detail is not spared one bit. You simply can not find this level of attention to hand tools anywhere else in the world, period.

Thinking about buying the masters set NTX8700. Was wondering if someone has any idea on how the custom fees are going be like if they shipped to Hawaii?

ITS ALIVE!!!

Still my favorite... some spark plug sockets and e-torx sockets. I also purchased a full set of deep sockets (including the gaps) and a 1/4 set (totally awesome!) but I can't spot the photos for these. My only complaint is that the E-torx do not go very large. I had to purchase some Koken e-torx sockets in the larger size. I also grabbed a spare 3/8 hand ratchet and a ratchet adapter (which I don't rate).

I have now purchased pretty much all of the Nepros line. It would be nice if they would release a few new items. I would be on them in an instant.

I remember a while back Superatobacs heard a rumor of a 90 tooth ratchet... Well here it is :shocking:

Oh smack, it's here!

JK, thanks for the heads up. That news is hot off the press; just announced today on KTC's website! The NBR390

Apparently it will go on sale in November. I wonder who's going to ship the first one onto this continent. :D

They state that it's the highest toothcount ratchet for its size (I don't doubt that). The pawl's 7-teeth engages the ring gear at all times.
This new 90-tooth model retains the same strength as the 36-tooth models.
Sticking with Nepros' grassroots concept (ease-of-use for user), emphasis was placed on the feeling and sound of the ratcheting.
It also boasts a lower return drag for greater product efficiency.

Some high resolution pics:

Can't say I am entirely sure what to make of this, but I do find it mildly amusing:

I asked Frankstools to get me a quote, and he said he would get it to me in November when it's released. I'm buying two

I had a chance to briefly meet Frank in Tokyo in early September. I was hung over from the night before and sweating like a dog in the summer heat. Frank went out of his way to personally drop off my last order outside of Shinjuku station. He has a full time job and tools are a side business for him, so he can't always respond right away. He can offer the same prices as Nepros.net, so I don't mind if I have to wait a little longer. I would rather support a fellow tool nut. He has always done me right and I appreciate that.

No matter who you decide to order the "90" tooth ratchet from, I'm sure it will be a classic that can ratchet with the best...

I'm liking the quality and attention to detail Nepros is putting out. The chrome looks like its better than Snap-on judging by the pics. Hmmmm only if they had a US distributor..

Thanks for the heads up. I'll definitely check them out. So what's the maximum order I can place without paying customs?

Hard to say, out of 15 orders, I've been dinged once when ordering from Nepros.net, some have been taxed almost everytime.

Never had to pay duty when ordering from Frankstools, He ship USPS from a military PO in Japan. Never paid a dime even when I ordered my KTC easy buggy (very large box).

I'll definitely be placing an order through franks then. Is he an active member on the board by any chance?

He is, search his user name... Frankstools

Some times he takes a few days or more to reply to PM's, he also has an online store. A google search will show his web site, but it only shows a small selection of what he can get.

Anyone know if there are plans to do a 1/4" and 1/2" fine tooth ratchet as well?

I would assume they'll come out with variations (flex, stubby, different drive sizes), unless they prove to be unpopular by users (which I doubt). It'll probably take months/years before they replace/add the same variety you see today. I think it'll be a slow process.

JK,

What was your last purchase from Franks? My inquiring mind wants to know. :D

One more pic of the NBR390

I think this is the first time ever that I can not wait to throw full retail at a particular tool. That is 1 **** ratchet. And I know for a fact that 1 in each driver size isn't enough lol!

My last purchase from Frank was a set of KTC low profile combo wrenches, a magnetic t-andle rack, and KTC panel popper pliers.

jk47 - how thick are the low profile combo wrenches? Maybe as a reference, what's the thickness of a 15mm? The open end Facom thin wrench 15mm is 3.6mm so I'd be curious to hear how it compares.

JK,

Ahh, the cherry blossom pattern wrench. Definitely original  :D
I think those were additions made to their bicycle tools dept.

Amorphiss,

Your answer is: 4.2mm

A Nepros advertisement from 2007:

Actually I have the Pro-Fit set, not the cherry blossom's. The thickness on a 15mm wrench is the same at 4.2mm though. I can't post the link to KTC's page from my phone for some reason.
