Hey All...Again I will preface by saying this is my real first time being here. Thanks for having me and thanks to Ryan.
I have had shops at our homes, but all have been established since buying previous homes... this is my first build for my own shop.
Pretty Stoked.
It was time in our lives to down-size. My wife and I finally agreed after living on 2 big rural properties... just too much maintenance ,too much yard work.
... so we bought a quaint 1250 sq.ft. home... built in 1910, that was completely renovated.
In our area(rural) we moved to a very small town,Population under a 1000, A historic small town close to Lake Huron. The area is know for the yellow brick homes in this area.. we just love it and it fits our needs..... except no shop.
I need a shop and studio....
So, during the hectic times of selling, buying..I enlisted my good friend George(a GC) who helped us a ton and built our last home to help me get this project going.
It's very convenient ,.. George lives 3 blocks away.First things in order were to see if I could get permits to build. No issue there. the property is a good size like within the town.
166 deep and 66 wide.
So with the towns approval we set out to begin... the week after we moved in.All my tools, toys and general shop stuff is buried in 2 40 foot sea cans for the time being, while my cars are stored at a friends shop.
So..... working within the townships guideline and of course... Budget,... I had a set of plans drawn up for a 42x30 building. It will have a second floor for an office/studio/storage area....
Of course I wanted a massive much bigger shop.. but lessons from the past have told me...bigger mean more cost.. and with the local rules and codes.. this is where we landed.
The property has a deep grade in the back.. so.. water drainage and such was a big consideration.
I plan to mimic somewhat the house.... same colours and such, I want it all to be the same feel.So... We came up with some drawings.
(please ignore the garage door style.....thats not happening.)
Steel building, gables and a Black steel roof.
