If you move that Beetle, shine the light from behind the project car, trace an outline on the wall, and cut/paint boards to follow it - you might have a cool car profile to match the Bowtie on the back wall. Not sure how high that exhaust hood is going to be, however, so that could foil it.

Nice progress on that wall. It looks great, TB_66!

Thanks shopnut.........Once that VW is outta there I'd just as soon forget about. I'll make a V dub logo for Mrs. TB if she wants one is her shop:D.

GJ is a strange vortex, as I was driving by a truck and trailer stacked full of old fence being hauled away, I though TB could use those he has been looking for more to finish up the shop. I then realized the freight from Texas to the PNW might be more than you are willing to endure. I guess it is the thought that counts.

Glad your fence guy came through or I was going to have to start shipping boards from here.:lol_hitti

maybe ask the next tornado to deliver it???

...okay, I'm from Oklahoma... ...the Texas guys are probably laughing too...

Well, thanks for thinkin' of me shoottx but I got it covered now. Almost done with phase 89:D. You just keep the tornados down there mdbeck!!

Looks KILLER.

In other words...looks normal. Status quo.

:D

Thanks Dave, perhaps I'll actually "finish" it one day haha.

I don't know why I never checked out this build before.

Must be the "pedestrian" title. Anyways the place looks awesome and the low cost angle only improves it.

I have an idea if you haven't sorted out the mismatched doors. How about using some glass attached to the face of the door to make your marker board. I have a couple pieces that am going to use in my shop for a white board surface.

Thanks for stopping by nkachur. The white board idea would work if the cabinets were a little lower.

I recently discovered a surplus building materials place in Seattle that has just about everything. I can probably source a cabinet there that is a little better match.

Yee haw baby! Dig that. If I ever get motivated (hehe yeah right) I'm gonna finish my garage off the same way inside. Rock on Paul. Now...what's next? HUH?

I'm still thinking of how to add a rustic looking wainscot around my place. We have so many fences in our neighborhood that I'm afraid what I might do when someone tears their fence down and has a stack of garage-bound lumber just waiting for another chance at life...

Looks great....good work!

Shaun

Thanks Shaun! I'm kinda glad I can move on to something else now. Whew!

Thanks fergus....Just get a few boards, get started and it will take on a life of it's own! What's next? Still gotta do the north end w/boards, lighting, storage to hide ****, finish the office and so on and on and on.

Right now I decided would be a good time to rip up the floor in the living room for some reason:dunno:.

You and me both brother, you and me both.

Haha.........I'm at least twice as old as you so I'm somewhat driven to getter done!

Careful!..............It just kinda takes over once you start:D

I haven't got a whole lot done lately. I took a short fall from my shop desk to the concrete almost two weeks ago. My ribs were mighty sore. They were getting a lot better when all of a sudden they got a lot worse:dunno:. Sooo, I hobbled down to the ER, got an xray and found out I had one fractured rib. It's always something haha.

Before that happened I managed to put up a little bit of slat wall the I got at Habitat a while back. This will be for shovels, rakes and other implements of destruction. I don't like how the paint turned out so I'll probably take it down and do another coat or two. I also need to find some hangers for it.

DSCN0025.jpg

Earlier this week I trekked down to the University of Washington surplus store to check it out. There're only open to the public on Tuesdays from noon 'til six. I'm definitely going back. I got a five drawer lateral file cabinet for $20 and the other cabinet for $15. The tall cabinet with doors is almost 7' tall. Someone forced the door at some point but it's an easy fix. I already picked up a new lock for it and I can straighten out the latching hardware. I suppose I'll have to paint them too.

Sorry to hear about the fall. I too have been pretty slow on progress in the garage. Just busy doing other work. Whats the plan for the file cabinet?

Cool deals Paul. Sorry about the fall...that's a bummer.

Those file cabs will hold a LOT of weight. I've got one like that and one drawer is full of gears and other heavy things...it glides real easy. Now, if we could just get cheaper toolboxes that did the same thing...

Nice score at the surplus store. Not sure if there are any like that at the local colleges around here or not. I'm gonna take a wild guess at Red and Black for the paint scheme...

Nice work on the slatwall. Paint looks fine from here.

Sorry to hear about your adventures in the Healthcare system. I hear a broken rib only hurts when you laugh, or cough, or sleep, or breathe, or... Well that sure pretty much stinks. Get a lot of rest don't think about the shop.

Glad it was only a fracture

Paul,

Today, there should be sunshine at your place. Is summer finally arriving here? Maybe not, but September will be here soon enough for the good weather, all 8 days of it!

Hope your ribs are mending and that you are able to get around better.

Interesting on the U Of W surplus store. Is this by the hospital? Think I might take a trip there to see if I can add to my collection of things that I'm gonna use someday.....

Get well.

Ody.

Nice Score!!!!
Sorry to hear about the rib.

Best of luck and a speedy recovery.

Thanks nkachur, I'm a sucker for cheap metal things!

Hey Nighttrain! Haven't seen ya in a while. You're probably busy with the tank truck stuff. The file cab will be for tools like my worm drive and portra-band. I might get rid of the two smaller cabinets.

Cool deals Paul. Sorry about the fall...that's a bummer.

I guess I need to do something stupid once in a while to remind myself that I'm breakable.

I've been looking for one of those cabinets for a while and at $20 I couldn't pass it up. The other one will replace the cheesy particle board one.

I stumbled upon the surplus place online. It's kind of a cool place. Good thing I didn't have a bigger truck! Red and black? Could be:D

Rib feels pretty dang good today except for the coughing part.

Sunshine!??!!!! That'd be nice. The merchant's car show is today in downtown
Arlington. I'm gonna go down there and wander around for a while. It's only about 10 minutes from home.

The surplus store is on 25th NE 4500 block so not too far from the hospital. There's a link below although they have a lot more than what they show online. As a bonus, the guy who writes the descriptions is pretty funny.

http://www.washington.edu/facilities/finadmin/movingandsurplus/inventory/

There's another place in Seattle called Second Use that's got a huge inventory of just about everything related to building. They're pretty proud of anything that they can mark "vintage" but it looks like there are some really good deals on other things. I haven't been there yet but I'm planning on going. Maybe after they move to the old Alaska Copper buildings on 6th Ave so.

Dang, broken ribs, I sure hope they heal quickly.

I guess it might be indelicate to ask what kind of stupid thing you were doing standing on a desk, but then again my curiosity is stronger than my good manners.:lol_hitti

Wellllllll, it seemed like a good idea at the time................
They always do! :D

Hey TB-66, you mentioned sore ribs awhile back in my thread but I never thought it was going to lead to an ER visit. Dang! Never cracked a rib myself, but I hear it's pretty painful. Good luck with the recovery. And have fun with those new cabinets.

Between you on desks, Shopnut on ladders, and me on icy driveways we (hopefully) seem to have the injuries for the year covered now!

Seriously, I hope you feel better. I'm excited for what you are going to do next. I hope I get to see something soon, so I can distract myself from having to do more grinding on my floor:lol:

Yes, hopefully we have fulfilled the injury quota for a while:sad:. I'm feeling much better, only bad when I cough.

I've been pretty busy with spring (summer?) cleanup on the property, getting ready for my wife's beloved chickens, ripping the floor out of the living room, etc. I had to take a break for about 3 weeks after my experiment with levitation.

I'm rollin' again now though. I just about finished the fence board project yesterday. Just a little trim to do. Massive mess cleanup today. I'll have some pics in a day or two.

Thanks for stopping by!! Tame that grinder!!

THE TWENTY-FIVE CENT TOUR............

Since I'm all done with the fence board project and the wall insulation I thought I'd step back and do a bit of a retrospective just for fun. The acquisition and and installation of the dang fence boards took just about a year. It started out to be just one wall and then took on a life of it's own. I was just along for the ride.

Okay, here we go around in a circle (rectangle?)..............

When you first enter you are in the little office. I'm not done with this room yet. It still needs the ceiling sheetrocked and the floor done. I'm pretty sure this floor will be ceramic tile. It's got all I need.......computer, printer, stereo, 26" led tv that I rarely watch.

DSCN0180.jpg

DSCN0181.jpg

This is the wall that got me started..

DSCN0183.jpg

Around the corner. The plumbing is all roughed in but I have no septic system yet. I may do a dry well in the interim so I can at least have water.

DSCN0185.jpg

The shop desk that I rarely sit at.......

DSCN0186.jpg

The boards on this north gable end were the final pieces of the puzzle.

DSCN0187.jpg

Starting down the west wall....
DSCN0188.jpg

Some wall art. A set of old headers that came with the Chevy II and an Edelbrock Performer that got overheated so bad that it warped. Gonna get that blasted so it looks better.

More to come in a minute.............

S'MORE

On down the west wall at my workbench. Craftsman tool box that I bought new in '89 and an old Craftsman box that I fixed up not too long ago....

DSCN0190.jpg

Scrounged and repurposed kitchen cabinets....
DSCN0191.jpg

A step back....

DSCN0192.jpg

On down the wall..

DSCN0193.jpg

The bowtie I made on an "I was bored" day:D

DSCN0194.jpg

The west wall also. The drill press was my Dad's. It's a Japanese Jet about 25 years old. It's a nice machine. The Craftsman bench grinder also belonged to him.
DSCN0197.jpg

DSCN0198.jpg

Down into the SW corner. That's the metal (Steelcase) cabinet I just got for $15. This area still needs some organisation.

DSCN0199.jpg

Some slatwall from Habitat restore. I ordered some hanger brackets for it but they're not here yet. All the garden tools will hang there until I can build a house for them and the mower.

The east wall back to where we began.........

Looks phenomenal Paul! Amazing work!

In that first picture...I almost see carpet/stone! Are you sold on the tile yet? The carpet might give it a real homey feel, but then again, grease on the bottom treads would be a downer:D

Twenty-five cents. Shoot - I would have paid 50. :) I'm still waiting for the s'mores though - I'm kind of hungry. Oh wait, I get it!

Its great to reflect back on the past accomplishments, eh TB_66? You've done a great job so far. Good luck on the last few details.

Hopefully those ribs aren't giving you too much trouble anymore.

Thanks Dave! I think I'm too much of a slob to have carpet:D. I will be gettin' greezy out there!

It is nice to reflect back! Kind of a hassle to get enough material but worth the trouble. I'm forever grateful to the fence man who provided me with all but one small load of boards. Mike @ Affordable Fence if anyone needs a fence south of Seattle!

Ribs are about 80%.......good to go:D.

That's the way I feel about my heel - 80% - I'll take it! I look at it this way - the other foot is 100% so I guess that puts me back up to 90% overall, and that ain't bad.

Now where did I lean that ladder...... :headscrat :)

I just read thru this entire thread; it's a slow day at work today. The finishing off of the end cabinet and the homemade bowtie are 2 of the coolest things I've ever seen. I was telling the wife the other day that I'm tired of leasing because I want to do my garage like I want. Lol. Of course that's not the only reason, but a pretty big one. Anyway, I love the garage. Keep up the great work.

Hey thanks Mat Mobile! One of my goals was/is to have a useful work space and a pleasent place to just spend some time "imagineering"

Is that the "new math"? I like it!!
