I think the drive plug is to a Bonney refrigeration ratchet.
DOH! That's it. Found it in a 50's cat. Goes to the RF49 rat. Thanks, 3. What a weird mix. There were two other Bonney pcs in the case, but they were part of their standard midget set: a V17 sliding tee and a V18 extension.

EDIT: I was just looking through the 1947 Williams catalog for another reason (trying to ID that midget box), and I see that they put a 1/4-1/4 male-male plug adaptor (NM-150) in their midget kit, even though they didn't have a female ratchet. I've seen that before in much older sets, used like connectors between female drive pieces, such as between the back of the extension/driver to an extension. Not very common. Seems kind of shaky to me. But it might explain why some oldtimer had one from a Bonney reefer set in this make-shift mess.

My Walden reefer ratchet also wishes it had a plug.
Slew, if you're Walden reefer rat is not brand conscious, I'll send you this one. I don't collect refrigeration tools.

I do! And it would be a great return-the-favor for the two (2) CHROME ALLOY sockets you just sent me. Unfortunately, I didn't know you needed one, and I just offered it to Ole Slewfoot, who expressed a need for his Walden. Your rat is a Bonney, right? He hasn't said, "Yes!" yet. So you may be in luck. (In hindsight, I should've known that any drive plug, regardless of the size, would be in high demand!)

Nice pickup Lugz!
Thanks. Funny thing is I was a little late to my flea stop #1, and the first thing I see when I pull in is a crowd of scroungers picking through a bunch of old garage stuff at one of the house close-out guy's spots. My dismay quickly turned into glee when I spotted this box. I couldn't believe someone didn't grab it just for the near-complete chrome SK set, which included deeps (see Pic 1). It was a little covered up when I got to it, so maybe it was overlooked, or nobody wanted to touch it because the box was so roached (see Pics 2 & 3, before a little clean-up)! Either way, I got lucky. I only wanted it for the Williams NM-110 Driver-Extension I could see by its knurled handle poking itself out of the SK glare! Turns out that it also contained a few Williams ALLOY V Superrenches and a Bonney V-17 sliding tee and V-18 extension (see pic 4).

As long as I have your attention, I'm also wondering if anyone recognizes the box, because I don't. It's not SK or Bonney. Is it a Williams? It looks to have been red originally. It's a mess. Someone lined it with something, possibly tape, that is deteriorating, and that's a strip of tape on top, too. It's roached. But if it's Williams I may try to save it even though there's no decal.

What are the dimensions?
7-1/2x3-1/4x1-1/8”?
Was it red crinkle?
It reminds me of No.MB16, on section3 page8 of the 1951 Bonney catalog. It is the box they included in their 20-piece RF80 set (section13 page2), which included RF45 rat and RF49 plug. The V17 and V18 would have been in that set, too.

The older ratchets in my garage. The GRAY I found in my buried in dirt floor of shed when I bought my house 20 years ago. It cleaned up well and received new innards. Local store NOVO PRO store got me the kit. They said it was a '40's vintage

I think you nailed it, LS! Have to say, at first I was leery, because the image of the MB16 in Section 2, Page 8, and in Section 13, Page 2, doesn't look like it's the same construction (no corner and edges supports on the bottom, which are crucial to ID), but the image of the MB24 surely does! See Pic.

And yes, those are the dimensions exactly, as I just provided to bill300d in the Williams thread earlier this morning, in a post linked here.

Thanks, and I stand corrected. I wasn't thinking about the 1950's when I said it wasn't a Bonney box, but I should've been, because the V-series pcs in the case are 'U.S.A.', not 'MADE IN U.S.A.' (Ironically, I have plenty of Bonney U.S.A. pieces, including some sockets and a ratchet. So even though I was hoping this was a Williams box for my stray Williams midget pieces, it will be a new home for the post-war Bonney pieces.)

Has a nice patina!
If you mean the Bonney box, thanks, Otg. I agree. I'm going to remove the stubborn remains of whatever it was a former owner tried to line it with, though. And the strip of desiccated tape on top. I have never seen a box like this before. The design is well-conceived the way the overhang on the closed lid completes the rectangle on the two ends formed by the spot-welded supports on the edges and corners on the bottom.

It is. It's a Gray branded version of the Bonney 4098. (They were a subsidiary for awhile, in case you didn't know that...) Sweet ratchet. What's the ratchet with the composite handle!?

I like the old Gray. You just don’t see them in the US.

Send it back to its Bonney brothers, I don't think anything will make the waterwheel kerchunker in the Walden nice enough I'd use it over my Plomb 1/4s.

I didn't know that. The composite handled is a Snap-On which along with the Husky beside it were in a "help yourself bin" at a relatives shop. I took those and a couple offset Snap-On wrenches I needed. The Craftsman was part of a tool set I bought new 40 years ago after replacing bearings and piston rings in my Rambler with little more than Visegrips, hammer and crescent wrench

Thanks for the info! Bonney ratchets are all but non-existent around here, so I lack knowledge about their products. Think of it like P&C in your neck of the woods!

Brian

Speaking of P&C, I posted this in the P&C thread a few weeks ago. My P&C ratchets now have a home in a P&C top chest. Here are my 1/4" drive ratchets.

Fascinating array of ratchets in this thread. Here are a couple of UK 1/2" drives from two good makers, Bedford and Gordon.

Welcome to GJ, Gerry, and thanks for posting those!

I picked up this JCPenney flex head tune-up ratchet (made by S-K) for a buck at a swap meet a couple months ago. It had a broken pall so I looked for a rebuild kit on eBay a couple weeks ago and found this: an S-K 45171-2 repair kit with thumb wheel!

I had no idea S-K had a thumb wheel option and I have to say I love it!

Does anyone else here have one?
